Downloaded icons show up as plain folders

When I download custom icons, most set are just plain folders when I open them. Is there a way to make them show up correctly, or is something getting lost in the download process.

Are you sure you are downloading OSX icons and not windows icons?
Here is a great site for OSX icons:

  • HT204406 I can't seem to download songs from iTumes Match on my new iPhone 5. It still works fine on my iPad. Both are running ios6 and there is plenty of free space on the phone (20 GB or so). The download icon shows & flashes but nothing happens.

I am trying to play songs from iTunes Match on my phone everything is enabled. The songs and playlists show up but when I select one it won't download or play. The download status icon next to the song name flashes on and off but nothing happens. When I go to the iTunes Store the download section shows the same behavior - it flashes that there is 1 download continuously but nothing downloads. My iPad on the same network also running ios6 works fine. Any ideas?

Problem closed (although not resolved).  After working with Apple support, no resolution was found.  I asked for a refund of the iTunes match purchase price, which was granted.  Interestingly the support tech, who was very nice if not particularly helpful from a technical point of view, spun the "resolution" of refunding my iTunes match purchase price as a positive one, here is a quote from the final email
"I'm glad to hear that you're not having issues with the songs you've purchased.  Nothing makes Apple happier than to hear that our customers concerns have been rectified."
It is notable that I never had an issue downloading music directly purchased thru the iTunes store, the only issue that existed was downloading songs that I ripped from my CD collection and "matched".
I'm happy that I received my money back, however I wish that the iTunes Match service worked for me (I was looking forward to this service).  I'm most upset at the time I wasted trying to fix this problem.
I'll now download music the old fashioned way: syncing with iTunes directly.

  • Illustrator CS5 icons showing up on all folders when I open them with a grey "?" .links to CS5-

I have illustrator CS5 icons showing up on all my folders when I open them with a grey "?" mark to the right, even when I open my HD*--When clicked on, the '?" shows zero data but this is a link to Illustrator CS5 that I need to undo. Please assist. Thank you.

    Here are Apple's instructions:
If you are using iPhoto ’06 or earlier, you will need to follow these steps to tell iPhoto where the Library is now located:
Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and open iPhoto. Keep the Option key held down until you are prompted to create or choose an iPhoto Library.
    Click Choose Library.
Locate and select the iPhoto Library in its new location.
    (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229 )
Below (in the link below) is what you should see when holding down the option key and opening iPhoto. Keep holding down the option key until this dialogue comes up. You want to select the Choose Library button.

  • Cloud Download icon shows next to songs on my iPhone 5s

Yesterday I purchased an iPhone 5s and downloaded my music to the new phone. I have three albums that have little cloud icons showing next to all of the songs on my phone. The albums also show a cloud in the corner of the album picture in my iTunes on my PC. I want to keep the album in iTunes but how do I get these off of my phone. I can download the music from the cloud on the phone and sync. The music then shoes in iTunes as being on my phone, When I try and delete it from my phone all of the downloaded music goes back to showing the cloud icons on my phone. I cannot get rid of these songs off my phone.

They are off the phone. The cloud shows they are available. If you do not want to see this, then go into Settings>Music and turn off Show all music.

  • Already downloaded song showed up in downloads

Something strange that has never happened before occurred when I opened up itunes today.  The download icon showed up, saying I had one download.  There was nothing in the list when I clicked the icon, but at the bottom it said I had 1 download available.  I clicked it and it started downloading a previously purchased song.  The trouble is, this song was already downloaded and in my music library - I move all of my music to a 2nd hard drive to keep the OS hard drive free for space - that song was still in the same file loaction, in the same directory as before, but when the song was redownloaded, the new download replaced my current song in the itunes library.  The ID3 tag was then that of the original download, and not what I had modified, the location of the file was now the itunes folder instead of the music folder on the other hard drive, and there was no sign of the original downloaded song located on the 2nd hard drive anywhere in itunes.  The song's location in the "purchased" playlist remained unchanged, buried in the middle as it was a song downloaded some time ago, but it linked back to the newly downloaded song in the itunes folder instead of where I had moved it when I originally downloaded it.  To get everything back to normal, I had to remove the new download from my itunes library and import the other file back into the library, moving it to the same location in the "purchase" playlist.  Really don't know why that happened.  Anyone else experience anything like that?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads with the same problem then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • I have tried to download bust a marble. the icon shows up but the game won't run.

I have downloaded "bust a marble" from the apple apps; the icon shows up but the game will not load or play.

You should try restarting your iPod by holding the lock button until a "slide to power off" bar appears at the top, slide then trun it back on by holding the lock button until the apple logo appears. If this doesn't work then try to download it on iTunes and then sync it to your iPod.
    Hope this helps

  • I have a big problem, I don't know what I touched but when I open up my iTunes I can't see all the icons. The only icons showing are "podcast, iTunes U and Downloads" so in other words I can't find the movies, music etc. Which means I can't buy/rent!

Not all content types are available in all countries - in each country Apple can only sell what they are licensed to (and in some cases what a country's laws allows them to). A list of what is available where is shown on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3599
Do you have access to other music and film purchase download sites ?

Is this a bug. Should I be concerned?

  • How do I download tv shows on iPod? Ios7. They are there. A little cloud icon in the bottom right corner. But unlike an iPad, there is no option (cloud with a downward facing arrow) to download.

If they have 'open' next to them then that implies that they are already on your iPad - if you tap on the 'open' button does that open the app ? If it does then they are on your iPad. You've checked all your homescreens and tried a soft-reset to see if they show after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

By install i presume you mean add it to the bottom of the machine ?
Yes, and it's rather easy to do too.
Your machine has two slots. These are the specs for a 2008 iMac (if your machine is different then check with Crucial.com and they will match the correct RAM for your machine)
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
So all you need to do is visit Crucial.com or OtherWorld Computing to order it, and OtherWorld Computing has install videos.
Here is one on YouTube. Easy pleasy.
Just make sure to discharge any static electricity and not touch the contacts, just the plastic edges.

Next time an app update gets stuck try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons for10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. Wait till your iPad starts on it's own. Try now. Also YouTube is still available. If you can't find it the the app store go to the bottom of the app store page and tap purchased. All your deleted apps will be listed and you can reinstall YouTube from there.

  • After uploading to the cloud, i lost access to some of my songs. The library still shows the information and there is a cloud download icon but the font color would seem to indicate it has been deactivated (i.e. nothing happens when I click on it).

  • I've lost my Downloads icon. Its not even in Finder, so I'm baffled!! A little box shows up when I am actually downloading stuff, then disappears. Where has it gone?? CCinNZ

I've lost my Downloads icon. It's not in Finder or anywhere else I've looked.
Has anyone found the solution as to where it goes.
I simply want to drag it back to my Dock.
    Help.

Not Lost, just leave a downloaded Application or pdf in it and it will stay on the safari tool bar..
Downloaded files e.g.from Mail stay in the downloads folder in your home account in finder although this can be changed in Safari preferences.
