Downloaded iTunes 11 and now none of my song files can be "located"- suggestions?

I just updated my iTunes to the newest version; my entire library shows up, however, when I click on any of the songs, a message appears that says that the original file cannot be found. I've searched through all my folders and can't find any trace of my original files. Any suggestions?

I've got the same problem. Updated iTunes > iTunes Library cannot be found > looked for files in iTunes folder & found nothing there > tried to restore them all via Time Machine > files are gone (not showing) for the past year.
I know the files are on my HD somewhere because if they were literally gone, my available space would have freed up about 65GB. Help?

The prime suspects for an error 11222 are proxy issues and certificate issues. In the course of your troubleshooting to date have you worked through the 11222-specific advice from the *Specific conditions and alert messages* section of the following document?

  • I had to restore my iPod and now none of the songs want to play.

I had to restore my iPod and now none of the songs want to play. I press play, it goes to the song screen, then around 5 seconds pass without the song starting and then it skips to the next song where the same thing happens. And that just keeps happening over and over and over again. Also when I plug in the iPod, the pinwheel shows up on iTunes for a while and then the 13010 error message pops up but the iPod still shows up in iTunes. I'm so lost. Please help!

There is an exclamation pt. next to several songs in itunes. When I click on that song, it can't locate it. When I click on locate, it pops up a menu with numerous files. I'm afraid to click on the files. What's going on?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Just downloaded Mountain Lion and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents will open.  This is a huge disaster!  Please, anyone, I need a solution!

Just downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to my iMac and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents won't open.  What a disaster!  What can I do?

To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Now boot your computer using your Snow Leopard DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
      1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
          appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Follow onscreen instructions to install Snow Leopard. Just be sure you select the new partition you created as the installer's target so you don't erase your Mountain Lion system.

  • Downloaded iTunes 9 and now my iTunes wont open?

I downloaded the iTunes 9, and everything went fine with the download. Now I try and open iTunes and it will not open. I even tried putting a cd in to pull up my iTunes, and it won't pull it up so I can't listen to the cd. What should I do to get my iTunes back up? When I click on it it just bounces once but nothing opens...

  • I've just installed iTunes 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV. Suggestions to fix?

I've just updated my iTunes to 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV after a few songs. My Apple TV is up to date and everything worked just fine yesterday. I've restarted everything and think I've checked all settings that might affect the shutdown. This is very frustrating as I was putting together a presentation for a party. I'm on Mountain Lion (all up to date too).
Help, please. I'm out of ideas and ready to reach for the hammer.

Posted this in another forum -- maybe it will help you.
Round number 2.  Updated iMac and Windows7 PC to iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  Home sharing broke again!  Verified working prior to my update on Windows PC and Apple TV2.  Tried a lot of things to make it work, but here is what I had to do:
    1) Rebooted my router (all but ATV2 is wired ethernet).
    2) De-authorized/Re-authorized both iMac and Windows PC; rebooted both
-- This got home sharing to work between both computers; ATV2 still was not working despite turn off/on home sharing, reset, change IP, etc.
    3) On iMac, turn home share off, then back on.  Now all three working.
In the end, I might have just tried step 3 (turn off/on Home Share on iMac), but now I've no way to verfiy -- that is until the next new release of iTunes.
Apple -- this is crazy.  I enjoy your products but having to run through these steps every time is a turn off.

  • I backed up my iphone to my itunes account and now all my contacts are gone can I get them back?

I backed my Iphone up to my new Itunes account and I have lost all my contacts.  Please tell me there is a way I can get them back?

    Check this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
This is what it says under "iTunes will back up the following information":
Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
    * Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.
Sounds like you may have experienced some of the "contact data loss".  I suggest using iCloud in the future.

  • I want to sync the playlists on my iPad to my iTunes? My computer crashed and I had to download itunes again and now the music and playlists on my iPad won't sync?

When I try to sync my iTunes with my Ipad now the alert comes up that I am already synced with another computer and I have to restore and sync my iPad if I want to continue. I have already lost alot of music that I had purchased and I don't want to lose anymore.

Was your iPod associated with a different mac or pc previously is all. And was it backed up or sync'd on this mac with iTunes previously.

  • I"m in canada and i download itunes uk and now i can't get back to my iTunes canada account. Please help.

    Help.
I was trying to down load a song from Itunes in UK that's not available in Canada but now its overridden my itunes account in Canada. How do i restore my Canadian itunes default?

It is a violation of the terms of service of itunes to use an itunes store from another country.  If you did this, then itunes could deactivate your account.
You need to make sure that all of your Canada information is in your account.
