Downloaded legitimate copy of Windows 7 from Microsoft...

I know I need to install Windows 7 from Bootcamp. I used to have Vista on it, but have gotten rid of that now. I upgraded to 8 gigs of ram, so now I have to install 64 bit for Windows. No matter how I copy Windows to a dvd to use in Bootcamp, it can't find the dvd. I have seen that there are files from the dvd in Finder. Is it impossible to upload a "copied" dvd, and do I have to wait for Microsoft to mail me their backup? ...or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Well, I went and purchased 2 other brands of dvd, but neither one of them are burning, either. That totals 4 different brands. I've reinstalled Windows Vista till I get the Windows 7 dvd in the snailmail. Can't believe I've been through HOURS for absolutely nothing but reinstalling what I had in the first place, only to wait around 3 weeks till I get the actual dvd. Lesson learned. Get the original software straight from the manufacturer in the first place!
Anyway, has anyone else had a problem with burning a dvd, when a cd will burn no problem, and it reads dvds and cds no problem?

  • Satellite L300 - Can I purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft

    My Satellite L300 came with Vista Home Premium. I formatted the drive and installed Windows XP to enable me to run a software not compatible with Vista.
    Now Windows wants me to activate the OS.
    I now want to purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft.
    Will I be able to install Windows 7? or will the Vista product key tied to the system reject the installation?

    > Will I be able to install Windows 7?
    Definitely. Ive installed Win7 32bit on friends L300 and it works perfectly. Much better than Vista.
    For Win7 activation you need valid product key that you can get from Microsoft. Vista key placed at the sticker will not help you at all.

  • Windows XP from Microsoft's Virtual PC

    I have just ordered a new 24" iMac, 2.8 ghz machine. I have a need to do a few things in a windows environment. My older Macs have Microsofts Virtual PC installed running the copy of Windows XP professional that came with the original program. Can I install Windows from this disk or do I need to buy a new copy of windows? I have seen references to Service Pack 2. I know that that while service pack 2 may be resident on the windows disk it was installed after the original installation of windows. Advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Doug,
    it is indeed technically possible to use the Windows XP from Virtual PC.
    See here for procedure: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060527175405403
    But keep in mind that the Windows License does not allow you to use one Windows XP on two or more computers.
    And because of the Activation Process of XP they will find out...
    Good Luck

  • Call COPY FILES window dialog from FORMS 6i

    Hello.
    I'm working with FORMS 6i and I need to make script witch will copy all files from CD to HARD DRIVE ...
    Now I'm using this command to call XCOPY DOS command and this working great...
    Win_Api_Shell.WinExec( 'cmd.exe /c xcopy /y /e '||xcopy_sting, WIN_API.SW_SHOWNORMAL, false );
    BUT....
    I have FROM & TO destinations parameters and I want to use windows copy dialog witch will be opened by button press automaticaly..
    ( I mean on SMALL COPY DIALOG WINDOW when you pressing CTRL+C)
    TNX

    You can use a host command to perform the copy.
    declare
    ls varchar2(299);
    begin
    ls :='copy '|| source dir || destination dir ;
    Host(ls);
    End;
    And you can create 2 text items in the form and use the get_file or win_api_dialog to get the directory name.
    Use it in the above

    There are at least 3 posts on this forum including myself) about the successful re-installation of W7 using the laptops OEM key and a retail W7 DVD. This link [http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-7-oem-key-with-a-non-oem-disc/7788dfa2-94a7-4db3-8bcd-b0e109bd7b95] is the first one I found from a semi official source where a moderator of a Microsoft owned forum Carey Frisch states:
    "Yes, you can use a regular Windows 7 retail DVD and a genuine Windows 7 OEM product key to perform a "clean install"> However, when it comes time to perform product activation, you'll need to use the "activate by phone" method." and at that point the 42 character key the laptop generates and you have to key in will no doubt tell microsoft that this is an an install on a machine with OEM Windows 7 (version) installed at sale.
    The above doesn't apply to XP . There are programs like keyfinder thing3.exe that will display the installed W7 key and mine does match the OEM key on the laptop

  • Can I install Windows 7 from an SD card on my 2011 Macbook Air 13"?

    This morning I purchased a digital copy of Windows 7 from Microsoft, and created a bootable SD card for installing the operating system.  My problem is that Boot Camp Assistant will not allow me to partition the drive without the install media present.  The install media is present, but because it is not in the form of a USB drive, it does not detect it.  I'm wary of manually partitioning the drive using Disk Utility, is there a way I can trick it into thinking I have a USB plugged in?  I don't have any USB drives big enough to install Windows 7 from and I don't look forward to having to drive to the store and pay for a USB stick I'll use once.  Thanks in advance.
    -Aaron

    Windows must be installed from a DVD in the internal optical drive. Burn your digital image to a DVD using Disk Utility, Toast, or similar utility. You can also use the Apple external USB optical drive for the MBA.

  • I got a free copy of Windows 8.1 from dreamspark but now its telling me it cant activate windows.

    AS i said, i used my student email to make a dreamspark account, downloaded my copy of windows 8.1 for free, put it onto a bootable flash drive, and loaded it onto my newly built pc. Everything was ok for a couple of hours but now i have the activate windows
    watermark and when i got to try and activate windows it keeps telling me that it cant. Any help or suggestions?

    Hi tjcreator,
    I'm not sure how the DreamSpark entitlements are setup and activate , it is recommended to ask for help from DreamSpark support.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

    Hello,
    I have a Lenovo desktop that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on last fall. I obtained my legal copy of Windows 7 from Tiger Direct as a promotion that was giving away copies of Windows 7. I still have the envelope and installation cd, the installation cd looks
    just like another copy of Windows 7 I got from Microsoft. I have been installing updates since the installation last fall. The message appears in the lower right hand side of my desktop screen.
    According to a thread that I read a couple weeks ago, I checked my Updates and found that I have two Windows Updates that do not have Publishers. The updates are kb958488 and update kb 971033.
    Any ideas on how I can correct this?
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Not a genuine copy of windows 7

    I got this error yesterday on my computer.  It made my wallpaper black and in the bottom right it says
    Windows 7
    Build 7600
    This is not a genuine copy of windows.
    I have had my Y560 laptop for about a month and a half now, so this makes no sense to me.
    I called the lenovo customer support and for some reason the person thought my computer shipped from lenovo with vista or xp and had windows 7 installed at Frys (where I purchased the laptop).  I find this hard to believe that my i7 Y560 would ship from the manufacturer with any OS other than windows 7... but anyways, he wanted me to reformat and then if I had any problems to call Frys because he believes they installed Windows 7.
    Now before I go through all the hassle of reformatting my machine and calling Frys (I can't imagine that will be a very easy process), I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem and how they resolved it.
    I searched online and this seems to be a very common problem for some reason... but I don't want to take any risks by modifying the windows files to stop checking if its cracked or not because I purchased a legitimate copy of windows, or at least I was supposed to (and I really doubt such a huge retailer like Frys would be installing counterfeit copies of windows...).
    Thanks

  • Can I use a copy of Windows XP?

    I burned a copy of Windows XP from my original disc... and I'm glad I did, because I lost the original. Can I use my copy to install onto Boot Camp?

    I'm pretty sure the disk will function. The real question is do you have the Product Key numbers. That is what your money goes to when you purchase an operating system disk. Without the numbers you cannot activate the installed software. And of course you can only use the numbers on one machine.

    I have a Samsung Chromebook; which do I download -- for Mac or Windows?

    From what I have read, you can use neither of those option.  Google Chrome OS is a completely different animal and you would need to check on the chrome website for apps that are available for use with it.

  • Is there any way I can convert a .exe file to .iso on my MacBook Air? I'm trying to install Windows via BootCamp but the download from Microsoft is a .exe file which does me no good.

    I'm trying to install Windows 8 via Boot Camp, but the download from Microsoft is a .exe file so when I go to create the bootable USB drive, it fails. I've read some of the other threads about this topic, but I want to know if there is any way to convert to .iso without having to find someone's Windows computer to borrow. Can anyone help?

    No. You would require a PC in order to run the executable which is an installer, not a disc image or an archive.

  • I bought windows 8 from the Microsoft store. How do I download it on my mac to burn on a dvd as it is an exe file?

    Hello,
    I just bought Windows 8 and have now got a downloadable link with a product key. How can I download it on my mac so I can burn it on a DVD to start the Bootcamp? When I press to download, it wont as it is an exe file. I tried to download it on a windows computer so I can burn it but it asked to input the Product key, so was quite weary as it might have registred windows on that laptop.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

    so one had to install windows7 and then run the exe file from there
    not sure if you also bougth an upgrade if so then you need a win7 too
