Downloaded lion now keychain password problem

was never asked for a password for the microsoft keychain

Certainly seems that way. Anyway all's sorted on that front.
I'm afraid I don't use Lion so I probably can't help you much, but it would help others to understand the problem if you could expand a little.
When are you being asked for the password? On login or are you trying to open Keychain Access from Utilities?
FWIW, the keychain password is usually your login password unless you've changed it.

  • Upgraded to Lion, now keychain isn't behaving the same.

I used to start logging into a site, gmail or facebook for instance, then keychain would interrupt and ask for my keychain password and fill in the rest once I entered the keychain password. Now it doesn't even pop up to ask for keychain access. What happened and how do I fix this?

Last Friday I bought my first macbook pro; Lion was already installed. This of course means I had no previous keychain file to migrate and no initial entries in the existing keychain file. A few days after using mail, the keychain message would appear asking to enter password. If I also had Safari open, entering the keychain password and clicking OK resulted in Mail not responding no matter what was done (also the Keychain password box remained on screen). Attempting to force quit from the Apple menu was not possible as it was also froze. In both instances I had to shutdown the Mac by holding the power on/off down button down until it shut off the laptop (attempteing to restart did not work because it kept telling it could not restart because Mail needed to be exited).
After the restart completed, I reset my keychain file (no content of concern there), opened mail, entered the passwords, and so far (fingers crossed) it seems fine.
Apple: in my case nothing I did caused this problem. This is clearly a bug to me. Googling this problem shows users with keychain problems dating back many, many years. Certainly countless users have had serveral types of problems with the keychain. Please investigate and correct these problems. Thank-you

  • Keychain password problems

I just upgraded to 10.4.6, now whenever I get my mail or am surfing the internet, I get a screen that says, "Please enter your keychain password". I entered the same password that I use for my account and receive the message, "Sorry, you entered an invalid password". I used disk utility to fix permissions, one problem was fixed, still having problems. I have changed my password in accounts, still same problem. I have tried to delete login in keychain access with no success.

Take a look at this thread, http://www.macfixit.com/comment.php?mode=display&sid=20050921061826456&title=Sys tem-widefreezes+when+Webbrowsing&pid=17566 especially the article it points to at http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/NATproblem#Routers_And_NAT_Enabled_BroadbandModems.

  • Downloaded Lion - now Air does not recognise mobile internet dongle

I downloaded Lion yesterday (love it so far!) but since then my Orange internet dongle isn't recognised!  Downloaded the Orange software again (and again and again) but keeps telling my to connect the dongle - which is already there. The Orange site suggests that the update might have put my dongle into a suspended state and to contact Mincrosoft (and, I suppose in this case, Apple).  Can't see anything on the apple site, though.  Anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?  Isn't it funny that I am using Orange with an Apple ?

OK - replying to my own question!
I've now spoken with Orange and they tell me that this is a known issue - and from other posts seems it's the same with a number of mobile broadband providers.  They say they are working on it and it will be days rather than weeks to get this issue resolved.  She has sent me a link to a site which talks you through a manual workaround - and again I think this is the same with other providers.  I haven't tried it yet.  But I suppose if this doesn;t work, then I'll have to wait for Orange to get their software together.  Such a pity that they don't seem to work in advance with Apple on these things (and vice versa, of course).  I could really have been left quite stuck, as I work away from home and rely on this service for home comms, films, etc.

  • Cannot receive mail; keychain password problem

I recently bought a MacBook Air. While at the Apple Store making this purchase the Genius who sold it to me had to have me change my login password. He also advised that I upgrade the OS on my iMac desktop at home. Which I did. I do not use Keychain and told him that I did not want to.
Now I have a Mail problem. I can send and receive email fine within my own (administrator's) account. But my husband cannot receive mail in his Mail account. It is not an ISP problem because he can see his new mail on their webmail site.
When he opens his Mail app, it tells him that "Mail wants to use the 'login' keychain. He puts in his login password and every other password he can think of, but it will not recognize any of them. Then it says that "Mail can't connect to the accout "(ISPname)." He enters his ISP email password, and then it asks for the keychain password again.
The Connection Doctor says that "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct." The username and password are correct; we never changed them. Now I'm stuck.
I really think this is connected to the OS upgrade. Can anyone help?

Everybody uses KeyChain. You can't 'opt out' of it, it's simply the way Mac OS X keeps track of who and what is allowed to do this or that, including Mail. The 'Genius' should have explained that to you....
Not to worry. Here's the trick.
    1. Click on the Spotlight (magnifying glass) in the top right corner of your screen.
    2. Type 'Keychain' in the search bar and press 'return'.
    3. In the 'Keychain' window that opens up, search for 'mail' in the filter bar.
    4. Click on and delete all entries that start with 'imap...' and 'smtp...'.
    5. Open Mail.app and choose Mail > Preferences... | Accounts | Account Information
    6. For each of your mail accounts in the left panel, clear the field under 'Password' and re-enter the correct password. After doing this for one account, click any of the tabs above (e.g., 'General') which will force a dialogue box asking you to save the changes. Confirm that you want to save the changes.
Repeat step 5 and 6 for all your different email accounts.

  • X509 keychain password problem

Hi - I'm trying to install certificates at the x509 level in my keychain, and while I have no problem doing it at the "Login" level, the "X509" is asking me for my "keychain password" which it is not accepting. my keychain password (for all other actions I've tried with the keychain) is the same as my (admin) user's password, but during this x509 import it won't accept the same password.
Any thoughts or things I can do that would solve this? can't seem to get encrypted email working otherwise

    Try this:
    1. Make sure that root is active as a user (in Netinfo... there are links in discussions about activating the root user).
    2. Login as the newly activated root user
    3. Double click the cert you wish to add to X509Anchors
    4. Select X509Anchors from the drop down menu
    5. Enter the password for the cert
    6. Enter "X509Anchors" for the password to add something to X509Anchors (minus the double quotes).
-- hopefully that will work. Be sure you're logged in as root and that you follow the case of X509Anchors exactly.
Good luck - this drove me NUTS until I found out about this on another site.

  • I downloaded lion now my mac book pro has frozen can't get into my mac book, why?

why can't I get into my mac book pro now thatI have installed Lion, just have a screen with my name in the middle with a nice picture of an eagle. I have had no trouble with my desktop, it loaded fine, don<><.

    Hi Donald.
Okay, your problem is most probably due to automatic graphics switching. Since you can't login, the only way I see is by starting Lion in safe mode. You will be able to login. Then disable Automatic Graphics Switching in the Energy / Power settings of System Preferences. The exact name of the setting may differ depending on your MacBook and hardware.
    Regards.

  • I've recently downloaded Lion and have a problem playing DVD's.

Since I've up graded to Lion I'm finding that the Audio content is out of sync on DVD's that I've played.
Does anyone know what I can do to correct it?

Yes the DVD was fine. I tried it in a different device and it worked as it should. Everything points to the recent upgrade.
Incidently, when I was downloading the Lion an error message came up and I had to restart the computer. After that it downloaded after a large amount of time. Since then though my Mac Mini has been working really slowly.

  • HT2470 Grey screen after reboot and keychain password problems..

It's hard to believe I have only had my iMac 1 week and already I have managed to lock myself out of my user account and now after following online advice to unlock the keychain within utilities, I have a grey screen and spinning pointer. I remember deleting something from the keychain but now I can't even log on?
Is there anyway I can resolve this myself ( very little technical experience) or will Apple phone support be my best option?  Any answers would be greatly appreciated.............. thanks in advance.

You paid for 90 days of phone support. Might as well use it.

  • Mail has intermittent keychain password problems with Hotmail account

Most of the time Mail can access both my Me mail and Hotmail. However, since I moved from Tiger to Leopard Mail loses access to my Hotmail password and asks for it to be reentered to check for mail. If I don't do this I get the usual problem lightning bolt icon by mt Hotmail in-box in Mail. But when I click this and recheck for mail manually it works fine every time.
Is mail just not accessing my key-chain when it isn't the active application I'm running?

This is a common report with Hotmail accounts, but currently mine is staying connected. I think the prompt actually results from the checking the connection on the SMTP, rather than the Incoming Server, but not sure in every case. I have seen the problem in Mail 2.x, 3.x and 4.x. If it goes into a period of frequently giving the prompt, I change to exclude the account from auto checking for new mail, and then manually check for new messages.
That mine is currently working may be due to my changing the SMTP to that of my ISP rather than the one from Hotmail.

  • Downloaded lion now unable to install and launch?

after the download, have been unable to install or or launch from back up?

unable to go online to app store to download it

  • Still can't download lion serial

When is this problem with the serial # going to be fixed

be careful...my macbook pro is May 2010, downloaded Lion and nothing but problems..multiple phone calls with applecare, two trips to genius bar with same problem after getting home. Now they're looking at logs to try to figure it out. I will not download a new op system onto a machine with an earlier OS again.
My MBP may live with a limp indefinitely if they can't figure this out and though Lion seems to have compromised my laptop I doubt they'll replace it. Very disappointing.

  • If i purchase Lion now, will mountain lion be a free upgrade?

I heard if you buy a new computer with Lion, it will be a free upgrade to Mountain Lion when it is released. Does this apply the same if I download Lion now or will I have to purchase the Mountain Lion upgrade?
    Does anyone know?
    Please let me know.
    Many Thanks

No, the download does not qualify. Lion must be part of a computer purchase on or after June 11.

  • Downloaded lion need power button to wake the system up

I downloaded Lion, now I need to use the power button to wake it up

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, your computer is up to date.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading.
