  • Maps on the SD card for Lumia 820

I've just ordered an 820, and now I see that apparently it's not possible to install maps to the SD card - is this true? So when what's left of the 8Gb is full with maps of Europe and apps and games, I have to uninstall something, even if I have 32Gb of empty space plugged into the phone? Please tell me you're going to fix this... I'm upgrading from a 5230 that was already an old design when I bought it, and I could store maps wherever I wanted. I know that microSD support has only just come to Windows Phone so I don't expect perfection right out of the box, but please consider fixing this, for me it's a major bug. If it's not going to happen I guess I should cancel the order and buy the HTC 8X, doesn't cost much more than the 820 and has double the storage, and now you released Drive+ for all Windows Phones...

You are correct about not being able to install map data on the sd card. I travel overseas regularly and havent seen the need to download more than just the maps I need for the next few months and remove them when not required. This is because the data is updated a couple of times a year anyway, so even if I already have the data downloaded a few months previous, I'll probably need to redownload it again to get the latest updates just before I travel.
However, if you should want to download all the map data anyway, then the 820 is not for you and there is always the Lumia 920 with 32gb storage.

  • Recommended SD Card for Lumia 1520?

I'm going to buy 64Gb Sd card for my Lumia 1520 but read about problems with video recording on some cards. What 64Gb cards are proven to work without any issues? Would appreciate any advice

I was using a Sandisk Extreme 64gb card for a month without any problems before switching to another 32gb Sandisk I have.

  • Downloading maps from media card onto blackberry

Could I install maps from a media card onto my Blackberry if I download these from my computer?

There are only a couple of options of applications that actually do that (and neither of them do it well).

  • Lumia 820 - Offline Map data on SD card

I have same problem on my Lumia 820. Other map applications also failed. After trying many quick options i then used Nokia Software Recovery Tool to reinstall the phone software (latest black version). Here Maps and Drive did then work but I found it was not accessing map files from the SD drive (settings back to original defaults). I then used Lumia Storage Check app to try and change map storage from phone to SD card. Then when trying to check the maps using the same app I found it would tell me overall folder size of map folder but not show me the list of maps stored.  I then went back to the Here Maps app and found it was again no longer working. Changing the default storage back to phone using the Storage Check app immediately solved the problem. Therefore it looks like the problem is caused by the Lumia Storage Check App and/or the SD card. My next step - and I know almost nothing about the technology here - I tried to clear the map files from the SD card in case they were corrupted. I could not do this as the files were write protected. However i was able to delete one subfolder. I then went back to Lumia Storage Check and again set map storage to my SD card and again tried to look at the map files listed using the app. To my surprise it started working and the list of country maps on the SD card appeared. Also the Here Maps and Drive+ appsare now working with the storage set to the SD card. Other mapping software eg Run The Map is also now working.  Given my explanation above perhaps someone with real technical knowledge can provide a proper explanation and solution.

Sounds like the memory card itself is corrupted. Please,
format your card via Nokia Lumia » Menu » Settings » Phone Storage » tap on the card » (at the bottom of the screen) format SD card.
install the latest version of the Lumia storage check beta …
open not the Settings but Nokia Lumia » Menu » Lumia storage check » (swipe right) Details » Maps change » Store maps on SD card
touch the button maps below and install the desired countries
This works here for my Nokia Lumia 820 with Nokia Black.

That page is not about map data but HERE Drive+ (voice guided navigation).

Obviously Nokia has too many models, even their own employees get confused. That is not intentional but a mistake on that webpage.

Open Ovi Maps application upon device and perhaps download a few kb's of map data for your current position, then close application and re-try.

  • Help On How To Download Maps to N95?

Hi, I've bought a Nokia N95 and am trying to download maps from the website but I'm getting lost.
Can anyone give me advice or a step-by-step guide on what to do?
I have tried looking for help but the problem's still there?
    Many thanks.
    Peter

    Hi peterandpeter
Firstly is version of Nokia Maps installed on your N95 the latest? Do you have three yellow or green symbols next to satellite rather than just satellite icon bottom right of screen?
Insert a microSD memory card into N95 and run Nokia Maps application. Enable an "active connection" either by WLAN or Network (remember to change settings to "never" afterwards if you don't want to incur data charges) and use [*] to zoom down to your position. Now exit application and folder structure required by Maploader application will be created on memory card.
It is now simpler to insert your microSD into card reader on PC when you requested by Maploader and it will allow you to proceed to download maps and/or voices as required.
You can also leave microSD in your N95 but it then needs to be used in "Data transfer" mode as a USB mass storage device not left in default "PC Suite" mode.
    Hope this helps you.

  • 6220 classic, downloading maps

According to the manual (among other places) One should be able to download maps to the 6220 classic, from the website http://maps.nokia.com. On this page you are informed that "ovi-maps" does not support 6220 classic.
So OK, but how do I download maps to the 6220 classic then.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Assuming that you have latest version of OVI Maps for your device installed from here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download?intc=ncomsup...
You need to run OVI Maps application on your 6220 Classic with memory card in place to initialise and define folder structure needed by OVI Suite > Maps on your PC to allow download of regional maps.

  • N95 and downloading maps HELP NEWBIE

    1. I downloaded Nokia Maps from Nokia Site
    2. I downloaded Nokia Mp loader from Nokia Site
    3. I opened Nokia maps and surfed a bit using a wifi connectioin
    4. I tried to download map. It shows as downloaded
    5. No directory created on my memory card? I can't find it on my memory card? so how do i access it
So how do I download maps, can't figure out the problem.
    Sonali

you do not really need to see where the maps are stored to use it
You use the map function and as you browse an area you have downloaded you get detail
You save or delete maps with the nokia map update prog on the PC while your phone is conected to the pc in mass storage mode or the MMC card is plugged in your PC
You map data is stored in memcard hidden folder private and one of the folders there while my card is in the pc slot the path would be Computer G:/private/and then maybe 102ff I cant remember which exact folder in the private it is
You need your browser set to see hidden files
Cities will hold the VOICE you downloaded for the navigation it will be empty UNTILL you 1st set the voice or download the voice
You do not have to say change from map of sweeden to map of finland you just browse or SEARCH for you destination and if you have it downloaded it works
YOU DO NOT see the different maps
Nokia user / modder since Nokia Orange and Mobira user too before that

  • Downloading Maps - New folder not recognised

I have been trying to download maps to my N95 without any luck. After creating new folders on my phone in both the phones HD and also the memory card it says the folder does not exist.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers

    Hi pearcy
Maploader application is used to download regional maps with phone in "data transfer" mode.
In Nokia Maps application connection through either WLAN or Network provider may be set to "as needed" or "never". To benefit from A-GPS feature or to search to full postcode level, an active connection is needed however.

please back this function. To download several GB  I need time and download the maps directly on the memory card give me the possibility to use the phone normally.

  • Downloaded Maps for E90 doesn't appear on memory c...

Hi all,I can't seem to find downloaded maps for my E90 stored on memory card  folder anywhere, I constantly need to re-download them after update new firmware. Where exactly are they stored or located on  mem card?
Can I re-load them when launch GPS maps? Why when I re-download the same maps it doesn't indicate already exist or over-write? I wonder where it all vanished to? Thanks for any advice.:mansurprised:
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Map data is stored in the CITIES folder. This folder is not 'readable' to the user, there are many subfolders and you won't see any map data with understnadable filenames like a country name.
When you install with Map Loader, if the data already exists it is simply overwritten with 'new' data fromthe web server.

  • Ovi Suite freezing while downloading maps

    Hi folks,
I have a Nokia 5230 with the latest maps application. Whenever I try to download maps to the phone the download starts for just a few seconds and Ovi Suite freezes. I have restarted both my computer and phone but still run into same problem. I am connected in PC Suite mode via USB.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    @tonderai
    Welcome to the forum!
Presumably you have latest Ovi Maps v3.06 (688) available from here installed?http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/ ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk23_b05_s60_5...
Is this the first time that you have download maps to your 5230?
You do have a microSD memory card in place and you have run Ovi Maps application upon 5230 with it in place?

I currently have my credit card on my iTunes account and when I have no money in my bank account it won't let me download the free apps even though they don't cost anything. How do I stop this so I can download or remove my credit card?

All downloads from iTunes are tied to the account that downloaded it, you can't re-download content via a different account. You checked the spam folder on yourr old account as well as the Inbox, and depending upon how long ago you did it, have you retried getting it reset : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password' ?
