Downloaded Mountain Lion update but couldn't install it and now it's gone.
Hi.
I bought a Macbook Pro today, asked for the redeem code to download Mountain Lion update and received it OK. After the update downloaded, it said there was an error and the update disappeared without being installed. I can't download it again because the code has been used, help please, no idea what to do.

In the app store, click purchases at the top , and download there.
If it's not visible, click "store" on the top bar and "view my account." You can unhide it there.
If you had a problem downloading, before you do either of the above, you may want to trash the contents of /var/folders/ (found by "go to folder" in finders "go" menu, top bar).

Problem solved - I was using my Apple I.D. Password by mistake when I should have been using my Mac OSX password. Apple support gave me this solution and I was then able to install the Mountain Lion OSX with no problemo!

Yes, and it's rather easy to do too.
Your machine has two slots. These are the specs for a 2008 iMac (if your machine is different then check with Crucial.com and they will match the correct RAM for your machine)

Microsoft Fix it ”Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working” was no use!
The patch "Windows6.1-KB2667402-v2-x86.msu" downloaded directly, but
could not be installed!
System Update Readiness tried, but no use!
PC Tools Security Product disabled, but no use!
cmd.exe tried, but no use!
Microsoft Support through phone, but no use!
So, what to do now?delete this subkey

If it exists there, uninstall it, and then force a Check For Updates, and retry the install -
trying to download mountain lion OS, but whenever the net connection is broken it restarts from zero, how to prevent this and start downloading from the point it was disconnected
Disable anti virus software and try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
Quit then relaunch the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Then click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads -
why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice
This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.

After Mountain Lion update, i can't open Facebook and Hotmail websites.
I already reinstalled the Mountain Lion, but the error still happens. The only way to open these websites is with the private navigation.
Please, help me.From your Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Safari > Preferernces then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If you still have problems with Facebook, go to the Facebook page then click the downward facing arrow to the right of Home then click Account Settings.
Select Security on the left then click Secure Browsing.
Select the box next to: Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) when possiblle then click Save Changes. -

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. ThanksMy previous answer still stands: Restore from your backup taken before you upgaded to Mountain Lion. For example, a Time Machine backup, a Carbon Copy Cloner clone, or a commercial backup service. Not the disk that came with your computer (which is how I read "OS back up disk").
If you reinstall the original OS from the disk that came with your computer, it will wipe out everything on your computer. (The installer won't install an older OS over a newer one, so you'll have to wipe the disk first.) Then you'll need to restore your data from your backup and reinstall applications like Word. -

It downloads version 4.1 - but does not install it and always shows this as Firefox 4.0 - Yahoo edition. Moreover the tabs open when I close firefox do not open when I start next. edit

i have just downloaded the latest update for Pages on my iPad and now it can no longer open up documents in iCloud and then just shuts down. What The.
Before the reset quit Pages like this:
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. -

I doubt that installing Sketchup and losing track of Pages are related. Use Finder to search for Pages.app. It should be found in Macintosh HD, Applications, iWork '09.
You can also use Spotlight to look for Pages.
If you find Pages, launch it. When the Pages icon appears in your Dock, Click and hold, then choose Keep in Dock.

After I installed Yosemite on my iMac, it will not restart. I goes to a gray screen and stops. The cursor moves around but the screen is blank? I went from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 straight to Yosemite, without upgrading to Maverick. Could that be the problem? And can I get it back to previous?

The download you found at Apple is an update file for 10.8 or 10.8.1 users and will not install without those versions being present. -

As Keith mentions Apple sells one as an optional extra.
There are others on the market as well.
My experience is to do some serious homework before buying any unit to make sure it is compatible with your specific Mac. Some users have been very disappointed.
I use an OWC (Other World Computing) bluray burner with several types of connections and it works fine.

Question 1.
Totally different to FCE and you need to forget most of what you learnt there to adapt to FCP X.
Most dramas occur learning FCP X because users try to think and use FCP X the the old way.
It took me some adjusting to get into the new methods and thinking and terms used.
Advice: Read the manual and unlearn FCE. Search the FCP X forum or ask a specific question, the info there is mounting.

Better is a subjective term.
I have sold all my old legacy FCP stuff and moved on to FCP X.
As a broad statement it makes it easier for someone who knows little about editing and the quirks of codecs to Import and Edit a Project.
That being said the underlying complexity of the app is very powerful.
Like all apps it's not perfect, the current version is 10.0.8 and I made the shift at 10.0.7 when it had matured to the extent I was personnaly happy to make the jump.

I have just installed Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3 on my Imac 27 and now on startup the page just continues to reload continueously and makes it imposible to access the system preferences app or anything else for that matter. initial startup is as before but stops at the facepage, mouse track pad and cursor keys are rendered useless as the arrow will not respond of even appear except for a millisecond occasionally.
I'd appreciate any assistance with this problem and solution if it exsists.It appears you have a corrupt install. My first reaction would be to boot to the Recover Partition and then reinstall Mountain Lion. If you don't know how to boot from the Recovery Partition please visit Apples Advice letter that explains how located at:

Hopefully you followed Apple's advice on backing up your system prior to upgrading.
