Downloaded MSN4Mac, says it's external hard drive, can't delete it

I downloaded Messenger for Mac from the Microsoft website, version 7 i think it was. It was saved to the download folder as a .dmg file. I opened it and installed it into one of my files, but instead of showing up there, it showed up on my desktop as "Microsoft Messenger" and that it is an external hard drive with 200MB on it. The msn wouldn't log me in and kept freezing. And I'm not sure how to uninstall it or get rid of it. I don't want it at all!

That "Disk" is the result of the dmg file doing what it was supposed to do, which was mount itself on the Desktop. That arrow pointing from the MSN Messenger logo to your Applications folder means that you're supposed to drag the MSN you see to the Apps folder which "installs" the application. Then you drag the "disk" to the trash, which ejects it. You then access MSN Messenger through the Application folder and you can drag it to your dock for easier access. The installation instructions are on the website where you downloaded Messenger. I would suggest you to go ahead and read those:

  • If i backed up my iPhotos on an external hard drive can i delete them off my mac?

I recently backed up my Macbook pro on to an external hard drive. I was wodnering if i could delete my photos from my iphoto library to save space, and if so can i then get them back on my computer from my external hard drive?

Depends on exactly what you did
And if you delete the information from your main computer then you do not have a backup - to have a backup you need hte original on your computer and an exact copy on another disk
What format is the external drive? It must be Mac OS extended (journaled) to have your iPhoto library on ti
What did you copy to the external drive? The iPhoto library or your photos?
What you probably need to do is to run your iPhoto library on an external drive and to have a second external drive to backup to - Time Machine is a good choice
To run your iPhoto library on an external drive verify that the drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPHoto library to it intact as a single entity - depress the option and command keyus, launch iPhoto and select the new location - fully test the library on the external drive and after one successful backup cycle verify that the external drive is being backedup - then delete your iPhoto library on the main drive - test one more time before emptying the trash

  • When I try to import, I receive the following message: "An internal error has occurred: not enough memory".  I always download my photos onto an external hard drive.

Yesterday,I downloaded an update for Lightroom 5.  Now when I try to import, I receive the following message: "An internal error has occurred: not enough memory".  The message comes up right after I click import, before I choose a file to upload. Here is the information I can think of that might be needed to answer this question:
    - I always download my photos onto an external hard drive. It is about 10 % full.
    - It says I have Lightroom 5.6  64 bit
    - I am working from a newer laptop (Windows).  The internal drive on the laptop has 289 gb and I am using 61 gb total memory.
    - I have edited 2794 photos in Lightroom and it is all in one catalog.
    - I did not have this problem until I made the update.  I did have my first "bug" earlier this week when one of my photos had a line show up through the middle of it when I exported it. I was able to export it a second time without the line.
If there is more info. needed, let me know.  I do photography as a hobby and know enough about Lightroom to edit out blemishes and adjust color balance, but not too much more, so forgive my ignorance if this is an obvious fix.
    Sincerely,
    Adrianne

Not Enough Memory typically refers to RAM.  How much RAM do you have on your 64-bit OS computer?  Do you have other programs running that may be using most of the memory?

I downloaded several cds to my external hard drive in .mp3 format. Later, I copied them to iTunes. The songs only play when the external hard drive is plugged in. I tried to load the songs from iTunes to my iPhone and the songs don't play. I thought iTunes allowed me to transfer music to my iPhone and play it. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi skoorb1,
When adding music to iTunes, you can set it to either make a local copy of the file, or simply point to the original location of the file (for example, on an external hard drive). If it is set to do the latter, it will not be able to play or transfer those files when the external hard drive is not plugged in. You may find the following article helpful:

ITs an old Iomega 100gb external HD that has about 90gb of music on it. The Macbook has a 500gb HD. I would like to put the iTunes library on the internal HD so I have room to expand.

You can copy it to the internal hard drive as long as it fits on it. How big is your library, and how big is your internal HD?
The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

It will, if you do the following:
Open Macintosh HD and locate the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of he window.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder representing the drive will appear to the right
Double click the folder and the drive icon will appear on the desktop

Yes, it can. Launch iTunes with the Option key held down and navigate to that instance of the library.

Is this external drive a Time Machine backup?
Then find what you want using Time Machine (or whatever application you used to make the backup).
Your iPhoto pictures are in the iPhoto library in Users/Pictures.

Open the General tab of the Finder's preferences and set it not to be displayed on the desktop. Alternatively, if it's a disk image or external disk, just drag it to the Trash.

  • How do I download audio cds from my external hard drive to i-tunes, how do I download audio cds from my external hard drive to i-tunes

My PC laptop died so I had to move audiobooks that I had downloaded to I-Tunes to an external hard drive. I now have a new PC laptop and want to transfer these audiobooks back to the I-Tunes on the laptop. How do I do that?

The easiest way would be to just attach the external drive to the MacBook Pro. iMovie should see it next time you open iMovie.
If you are going for portability, you can attach the external drive to the MacBook Pro. Then open iMovie.
Then click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. You should see your external drive listed in the Project Library and the Event Library.
To make a COPY just drag the icon for your project to the icon for the external drive in the Project Library List.
To MOVE it, hold down the command key while you drag.
If you want to edit the project, you will also want any Events, Photos, or Music referenced in the Project. To get those, click on the Project to select it (it is now on the MacBook Pro) and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA.

  • How can i transfer an itunes downloaded movie on to an external hard drive

Hi, I have just downloaded a movie from itunes for the first time. All of my previously purchased DVD's are on an external Hard drive to play directly on my TV. I wanted to move this downloaded movie on to the hard drive, but it will only play through itunes and will not play on the hard drive. Has anyone got any advice as to how I can do this. The movie is on the hard drive but will only play through my computer. Thsanks

Movies purchases via iTunes will only play in iTunes or on an iOS device.

  • Download software to computer or external hard drive?

I'd like to put Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 on my laptop, but before downloading it I'd like to get some advice on whether I should put it on my laptop's hard drive or an external hard drive. The reason I ask is suppose I end up getting a new computer in the next year or two...what would be the best way to still access my Photoshop software? Would downloading it to an external hard drive be a good solution, or are there problems that arise with that?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You will have to reinstall the prgram on the new computer regardless of whether you install on an internal or external hard drive.  Let me explain:
When you install a program under WIndows, it not only creates folders for installation, but also makes changes to the windows registry and often add files to the windows folder.  If you simply copy the folders created to a new computer, the registry changes and other files are not copied.  Before you ask, there is no way to copy these, as the registry and other files would be quite different on the new machine, because Photoshop installs files based in part on what hardware you have.
That being said, you *CAN* store the files you created on an external hard drive.  That way, once you install Photoshop on the new computer, all the files you created on the old computer are available on the external hard drive, which only needs to be plugged in to the new computer.
