Hi,
Wordpad can't open pdf files properly, you need pdf reader and the most popular is Adobe reader. Please download from the following link and install to your computer:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/
(Please don't tick add-in).
Windows 8.1 actually comes with a reader but it's not good enough.
Regards.

  • PDF files open in colorsync and can't be printed

In the last couple of weeks any downloaded PDF files open in Colorsync instead of Preview. I can't print them from Colorsync. I have repaied premissions. I don't know enough about computers to toss preferences, and I'm not sure which file to toss anyhow. It sort of feel like I've "lost" Preview, although the file is still on my hard drive. I appreciate any help any of you guys can give me in advance.

    Thomas:
If I look for Preview in "find" it goes HD>Applications>Xcode tools>Preview.pkg. I Went through an install routine and then tried to open a PDF file using control/click. That lists the default program as Colorsync with option of Virex, Safari, Epson (scanner) or "other." If I select "other," and then "applications," I can't find Preview. I guess I just don't understand these applications very well. Preview used to open everytime I downloaded a PDDF file. thanks for trying to help. I guess I can always call Apple.

  • Acrobat XI Pro shows that it has downloaded in the CC dropdown but I don't have a folder in my Applications folder and PDF files open to an old version of Reader.

I can't figure out how to open Acrobat XI Pro. It shows that it's downloaded in the CC dropdown but I can't find it anywhere on my machine. I've tried re-downloading it but nothing seems to happen. I've uninstalled all my old Acrobat versions thinking that would solve it but it didn't.

AdamSJarrett please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html for information on how to install Adobe Acrobat XI Professional.  In addition I would recommend reviewing Launch CC apps after install - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/launch-creative-cloud-apps.html.

  • Lion & Downloading .pdf Files

Since upgrading to Lion I can no longer see and download .pdf files from my bank and credit card company websites.  An empty window with a Quicktime symbol shows up.  A dialog box opens that says I need an add-on to "play" the file in Quicktime!  These are two different providers so it is not a problem with the companies.  I never had a problem with this with Snow Leopard.  Any ideas?

  • Problem keeping .pdf file open - "volume externally changed..."

I use Adobe Acrobat daily in my real estate business. I save or print a .pdf file of pretty much every document I use. Every day, I run into this problem: I'll have a .pdf file open for reference, and no matter what length of time I have the file open, whether 5 minutes or 30 minutes or anywhere in between, when I try to look back at the file and scroll down or up or even just click on the page somewhere, a little dialogue box pops up that says: The volume of the file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid." Then I click "OK" and try to navigate the file, and all my information in the file is blanked out, it's just a blank white page. I can exit out of the file and reopen and all my information is visible again, but after a bit of time, the same thing happens again. Very frustrating and time consuming, to have to keep exiting and reopening the file just to read it. I work on a shared drive of about 6 computers, but no one else is looking at the same file as me at the same point in time that I am accessing the file, so I know that's not the problem...Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! Just FYI, I am running Windows 7, and the version of Adobe Acrobat I am running is Adobe Acrobat 8.3.1 Professional.

Is the issue happening with all PDFs that you access? Or some of them? Could you try and get a new PDF from the web and try opening it and see if it might be a problem with the PDFs as such.

  • Since upgrading my Mac OS X from 10.6.8 to 10.8 and 10.9, I cannot open newly downloaded pdf files.  Please help!  Thanks.

    Hi,
Since upgrading my Mac OS X from 10.6.8 to firstly, 10.8 and then, 10.9, I have not been able to open new pdf files on either Preview or Acrobat Reader.
I can still open previously downloaded pdf files but not new ones.
I can still open new pdf files online.  However, when I save a pdf to my computer, I cannot open them anymore.
I upgraded to 10.8 a couple of weeks ago and then accepted a free upgrade to Maverick (10.9) this morning.  I was hoping that by upgrading to Maverick, I would be able to open pdf files again but alas, that is not the case.
I really need to open pdf files as a matter of urgency as I do this on a daily basis.  I am not a computer whizz so if anyone can help find a simple yet effective solution to my problem, that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

When I try to open a downloaded pdf file, I receive this message:
"It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
Yet, when I try to open pdf files downloaded whilst still using Mac OS X 10.6.8, they open as normal.  So what is the problem, please?
I have deleted Adobe Reader and re-installed it.  Yet, it follows the same pattern as above.  The same is true of Preview.  It's really frustrating because it means I can only open new pdf files using Safari (so I have to be online to do this).  I need to be able to open pdf files when I'm offline as well.
    Thanks.

    Hi Melbus_SE,
Are you downloading files from your Acrobat.com cloud storage? If so, what browser are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Has something changed on your system since you were able to download/open PDF files successfully? What version of Acrobat or Reader are you using to open these files?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but your answers will help us get to the bottom of this issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

I have an application on 4 computers. On 3, PDF files open as they should, withing the application. On the fourth the file is placed in "downloads" and then opens in a separate tab on the desktop(not inside the application).  Any ideas on settings that might be causing this? It happens whether the application starts in IE11, Google Chrome or Firefox.
This happens whether the "client" signs in over the internet or directly to the local host server.
    Thanks in advance

  • When I try to open a downloaded PDF file it opens for about 6 seconds and then closes - how can I fix that?

    I am using a Dell XPS8500 desktop with 64 bit Windows 7.
No problem downloading PDF files but when I open them they disappear before I can print.

    Hello,
Which application are you trying to open the PDF files in? Firefox or Adobe Reader? Or another?
If adobe reader then please make sure that your copy is up to date. You can get the latest version here - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
Also I notice that you are using Firefox 19. Unless you have a particular reason to run an old version of Firefox is it much better to keep updated. The latest version is v22. New security fixes are applied in every new version of Firefox. Without them your PC is vulnerable. Please see this article: [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

  • I'm using a Mac, using OS 10.4.11 and I'm trying to save a downloaded .pdf file in Firefox 3.6.10, what's the easiest way to accomplish that?

I downloaded a file from Apple, Support and it downloaded as a .pdf file.(http://support.apple.com/manuals/#powermac - item # 38 (4th page 8th item down).
I want to cut & paste that .pdf into an AppleWorks 6.2.9 word processing document. Using the select All option, so as to highlight the material on the page - I'm not allowed this option(it doesn't do it, thus I can't copy the document and paste it. It's a 7 MB download.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE39?viewlocale=en_US " How to Download Product Manuals (PDF files) states that:
    Using a Mac with Firefox:
    1) Click the manual you want to download. Firefox will ask if you want to open or save the document.
    2) Choose Save and select a location to save the manual.
The option/process 1) didn't take place - It simply went directly to the window showing that the download was taking place and that window shows what is being D/L and a progress bar.
In the preference options -->General I have selected "Save files to: Desktop". I have not selected /√ "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file", however, that is exactly what happens.
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • Opening downloaded pdf files using Adobe instead of in Safari

I prefer to use full-feature Adobe software to view downloaded pdf files instead of Safari. How do I keep Safari from opening them in the browser and instead automatically open Adobe Reader when the search engine finds a pdf file?

I have just installed Adobe Reader 9. I am getting frequent system hangs (cannot do anything without cold re-boot) when using the product, in particular when using forms documents provided by Companies House, a UK government agency.

  • When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  How do I fix this?

When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  What is wrong?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
