Downloadhelper which video streaming to choose?

Using Firfox Downloadhelper Add-on for one particular Youtube movie, I found many video streams available.
Please tell me which one of these video streaming has the highest video quality?
What is the typical data file size per one minute of video play?

  • 4 cores or 8 cores and which video card to choose

    My father and I are presented with a dilemma. Should we get 8 core model or the 4 core model at several hundred dollars cheaper?
    I have never actually bought for myself a computer, and I want to make this one last. At the moment, 8 cores is completely top of the line, and assuming I choose such a model, I will probably have an exceptionally well computer that will last be many, many years.
    I am most likely going to at all times be running Windows and Leopard side by side using Parallels and have a game running in Windows and developing, browsing, chatting, watching movies, ventrilo, etc. in the other space.
    For this reason, would it be wise to purchase the 8 core model? It is considerably cheaper to add the extra quad core with Apple as it is nearly half the price of one found on newegg or a dell configuration. I really want this computer to last and use it for a long time and play the most top of the line games with my friends such as Age of Conan, Crysis, etc. Also, I will have a 24 inch monitor that I will also need my computer to power.
    My current computer cannot even run Age of Conan at the lowest quality settings. I figure if I want to be able to run this game at 1920x1200 resolution in Parallels while running applications on Leopard, shelling out the extra three or four hundred dollars would be worth it. Seeing as I will be using this computer for years, even though most applications do not use 8 cores now, they will then.
    I believe that the 4 core model of the Mac Pro does not allow for an additional xeon quad core, so if I did buy the single quad core model, I would not be able to add another quad core, thus limiting me. Also, even if there were, it would void my warranty.
    Also, I have heard of the 8800 GT causing some problems in the Mac Pro, typically in the first generation ones, however, I had seen cases of people noting problems in the January edition. I want to do a lot of gaming in this rig, and the 8800 is the de facto card of choice for most gamers, at a reasonable price. However, will it give me problems? I have heard of some people having 0 problems at all with this card. Will it give me those occasional blue and green lines through my monitor? Has Apple fully developed the drivers for this card? Will I have problems with it?
    Thanks for any help and I await your responses.

    Fromethius,
    you cannot assing CPUs to the VM in Parallels. In VMware you can select 1 or 2 virtual CPU for the guest OS, though that doesn't neccessarily translate 1:1 with your physical CPUs.
    As for games, neither VM nor Parallels with run most later games well; remember, shader support is only experimental right now, so your results will vary.
    I play games on Mac natively, but it depends on which ones you are after.
    The is no problem with the 8800 card. The issues talked about - which is valid - is it's subpar CORE performance. That hopefully will be addressed in a driver, but won't affect you.
    As for the system - get all you can afford. Don't wait for 'upgrades' - you'll never buy s system otherwise as something new is always on the way.
    I work with a lot of video so I have an 8 core 3.2 with 16GB or RAM - and would never want less. Does that mean you need that? Or someone else doesn't even need more? Not at all - you just need to see what you really mean to do. 4 cores and the 8800 should be just fine for you. IF you can afford the 8 core, in case you will do a lot of work at the same time, great. Otherwise, rather not skimp on memory. Anything under 4GB, IMHO, ain't good enough.
    Cheers,
    dan

  • Which Video Card To Choose?

    I am looking to buy a Mac Pro and I'm not sure about what video card to buy. Looking at the Apple onlinstore I can configure with either a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or the ATI Radeon X1900. My main use will be to run Final Cut Pro and other graphics programs like Flash and Photoshop. Which card is better to have? Also, Why is there an option to buy up to 4 of NVIDIA 7300 cards, but only 1 of the ATI Radeon? What is the advantage of buying multiple NVIDIA 7300 cards? Can you use multiple ATI Radeon cards?
    Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Get the ATI Radeon X1900 by all means.
    See http://www.apple.com/macpro/graphics.html and
    http://www.barefeats.com/quad05.html
    Quoting: …Apple's Mac Pro GRAPHICS page shows the X1900's specs and performance so close to the $1650 Quadro FX 4500 and so far above the GeForce 7300 GT that the choice is a no-brainer for most consumers and professionals.…

  • FMS3: Multiple live video streams

    Hi,
    After reading the features and documentation I have a doubt:
    Can I have multiple live video streams with FMSS at the same time?
    E.g.: Different TV stations broadcast to a single server, and
    then the user chooses what station wants to watch.
    Thanks,
    Oriol

    Contact them and ask them which video streaming standards they use.  The most popular are:
    Windows Media, Windows Media with DRM enabled, MPEG-4, Realplayer, Adobe Flash, and Silverlight. Microsoft has released a Silverlight update for Lion.  http://www.flip4mac.com/ allows native non-DRM Windows Media.  Alternatively, you may need virtualization*. Realplayer's latest update is Lion compatible.  MPEG-4 make sure the version of Quicktime you have installed is the latest.  Adobe's Flash, the same thing.  Also ask them if their website depends on ActiveX.  Again, with ActiveX, virtualization may be your only solution.

  • Is there dvd software out there that allows you to create a dvd menu in which the viewer can choose to play different sequences of the videos offered?

    Is there dvd software out there that allows you to create a dvd menu in which the viewer can choose to play different sequences of the videos offered? It was described to me as a dvd matrix menu but I can't find anything like it for mac. The idea is that there are multiple videos on the dvd menu and you can choose to play "video A, then B, then C" or "video B, then C, then A", etc, in different orders each time. And it would play the sequence that you choose.

    meghanica wrote:
    I think that's on the right track but I'm wanting something that allows the viewer to choose the sequence when they're looking at the DVD menu. I only see how the creator of the DVD can make different sequences. It's a yoga tutorial DVD and we are wanting the viewer to be able to pick a sequence from the menu items as such: pick one of the 3 warm-up videos, then pick one of the 2 yoga practices and then pick 1 of the 3 cool-down videos and then the dvd will play the sequence of selected warm up, practice, then cool down. And it can be differently chosen every time the viewer uses the menu.
    You can do this on a DVD with DVD Studio Pro.
    DVD's have some very basic storage called SPRM/GPRM scripting IIRC.
    There are a few tutorials around for DVDSP…
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/dvd_language_nattress.html
    http://www.digitalproducer.com/article/DVD-Studio-Pro-Scripting-Part-4-28784
    You use scripts to set values that are stored in a tiny amount of memory on the player & then have to use additional scripts to respond to the values set, so that at the end of a sequence it will jump to the one a user previously chosen.
    Some things to consider…
    DVD's have limits on the number of chapters & titles, you need to plan around that.
    Some DVD players are terrible to navigate, the settings that a user selects will be forgotten when the player is powered off. Users will need to make the choices over & over, every time they use the DVD (computers may remember it - I haven't tested this in years).
    You will also need to setup many variations of menus to be able to indicate what selections they chose.
    It is not a trivial task, you may want to hire a programmer to set it all up.
    Testing is also a lot of work - too many combinations can quickly cause issues for testing, different players can also do odd things too.
    I have used scripting for basic, 'play all' or 'play chapter' menus where the video is encoded once on the DVD & the scripts will either play through, or simply play a chapter & return to the same menu.
    You may find that it would be better to invest in setting up a website with this. On a custom site it would be possible for users to save a playlist or several, they can also share playlists etc, it would be more flexible & usable IMO.
    See roaring apps for info on others who have used DVD Studio Pro with various OS's…
    http://roaringapps.com/app/dvd-studio-pro …it looks like 10.8 may be the last OS to work correctly with DVDSP.
    Other DVD authoring apps may be able to do GPRM scripting too, but you will have to search for them.
    I think the registers are part of the DVD spec, so devices should support them, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video

  • Apple TV video streaming issue with EA4500

    I am facing issues with my router EA4500 and my apple TV. When I am watching a video from my itunes library at my PC, sometimes stop palying waiting to receive data. Is that a way to conect my apple tv to my router to prioritize this video streaming from my PC to apple TV? Can someone help me? Do you have the port list for Apple TV?

    I'm sorry if I confused you! Regarding the firmware version you currently have (2.0.37.131047) it shows that you are using the Classic firmware in which we would suggest that you upgrade it using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware. This Linksys Smart Wifi uses the latest firmware for your router that might help you fixed your problem. Click this link below where you can download the new firmware for yor
    router. http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/EA4500----Can you tell me what version of apple tv you have? If your Apple Tv happens to be dual band then I would suggest that you connect to the 5ghz network because it can give you better video streaming capability. Yes you can choose which device you want to connect to the 2.4 or 5 ghz as long that device/s is dual band.

  • No video streaming for just some apps

    I'm running OS 10.6.8.  Video streaming for YouTube and some other apps suddenly stopped working.  Streaming of files attached to gmail works fine.  I've reinstalled FlashPlayer to no avail.  Can someone help?

    Hello CharlyAndy,
    It sounds like you are unable to stream video from some websites with your computer. I recommend trying the steps in the following article named:
    Safari 6 (OS X Mountain Lion): If Safari can’t open a website
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11883
    Reload the page and reset Safari
    Open Safari if it is not already open.
    Choose View > Reload Page.
    If reloading the page doesn’t work, choose Safari > Reset Safari, click Reset, and then try again to open the page.Warning: Resetting Safari deletes your browsing history and much other information. To learn more, see this help topic:Reset Safari
    Check your proxy settings If your computer or network is protected by a proxy or firewall, be sure your settings are correct in Network preferences. Incorrect settings can prevent Safari from connecting to some websites.
    To enter proxy settings, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, and then click the Advanced button.
    In the Advanced pane click Proxies.For information about settings in the Proxies pane of Network preferences, click the Help button (looks like a question mark).
    Contact the website’s owner
    The webpage may prevent users from accessing the page using Safari. Check with the website owner to find out for sure.
    Ask the website owner if the first part of the address, which identifies the Internet protocol (such as http or https), is nonstandard. If it is nonstandard, Safari can’t open it.
    Ask the website owner if there’s a problem with the web server’s configuration.
    Use the latest version of Safari
    To update your software, choose Apple menu > Software Update or Apple menu > App Store.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Can PQA use a single reference frame against a test video stream?

    For R&D testing of video "set-top" devices I want to initiate some internal processing on our UUT, then using a PXI-1491 analyze the digital (HDMI) video output of the UUT for some large number of seconds (180 seconds or more for example).
    The video that is being analyzed will have static image content. The amount of time I want to analyze the test stream after doing some stuff on the UUT is variable, but I always anticipate it being fairly long.
    It currently appears that I have to have a reference stream that contains exactly the same number of frames as the test stream.
    This makes the reference vbf files very large. My test requirements include a large number of resolutions that must be tested through the UUT. Having an extensive library of very large vbf files is logistically difficult, it would much easier to maintain such a library made up of single "golden" frame reference files instead.  Additionally, since my analyze time needs to be variable depending on test setup and UUT processing options, it would be better for me to have a single golden reference frame and validate alot of test frames against it.
    Since the analyzed video will have static images, is it possible to run a test video stream against a single reference frame (reduced reference) instead of having a full reference stream frame by frame?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Doing exactly what you are asking is not within the design of PQA.  Of course, the best option that we would recommend when working with video test is a large capacity hard drive, probably in a RAID configuration for more space and better performance, and then just taking a golden reference with 10k frames, and doing what you originally suggested.
    One method of achieving what you are looking for without using a large reference file is through offline processing.  This would allow you to acquire 10,000 consecutive frames, which I understand is one of your concerns, and then after the fact run them back through the analyzer.  You would still be performing a looping type of action in TestStand or LabVIEW.  The process would be:
    1) Acquire your source from your 1491 provider with no processors, and saving the media stream to disk.
    Loop:
    2) Load PQA with the disk buffer provider instead of the 1491, the disk buffer file will be the acquisition from above
    3) Point the start frame to your current location.
    4) Perform your processor with the results.
    5) Repeat and iterate to a new start frame location
    This process is going to be much slower as you load and unload resources every time.  If you choose to go this way, a better implementation would be to maybe consider doing 100 frames at a time, or some number larger than 1, because the processing time of handling the extra frames is going to be less than loading/unloading PQA.
    Your second option is going to require more work outside of PQA to implement custom functionality through a Custom User Processor.  Effectively this allows you to come up with a way to process incoming data in ways that you'd like.  To do this you will need:
    1) LabVIEW 2011 - Custom User Processors for PQA can only be developed in LabVIEW 2011.  If you are under a SSP agreement with NI and only have LabVIEW 2012 currently, you still have access to older versions.
    2) Vision Development Module - To perform your image processing
    3) An unencrypted video source - Due to limitations of HDCP we can not expose the raw video feed to user processors.
    In this user processor you would:
    1) Load your static image/frame in directly, you wouldn't need to use the Media Ref input
    Loop
    2) Load the current frame from the incoming video array
    3) Perform your video measurement with the Vision function, likely PNSR or SSIM since these are currently the only 2 referenced measurements in PQA.
    To learn more about Custom User Proessor's, in the PQA help check out: NI PQA Executive and the NI PQA Configuration Panel>NI PQA Tabs>Processors tab>Customizable Output Processors>User Processor  as well as: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/514058CC830D86EE86257881004CB45F

  • Apple TV freezes videos stream as soon as it goes fullscreen on youtube...

    Hi,
    My Apple TV used to work fine until yesterday, it suddenly started to freeze the video stream on airplay mirroring using youtube and other streaming sites (both on tv and on my devices, I've used 2 different Iphones and an Ipad and it's all the same).
    None of the rebooting, resetting, Airplay on/off  solution has worked. Also tried restarting all my devices, my router etc...
    It's connected to the internet via an ethernet cable so no wifi issues either.
    It airplays the device screens ok and I can see my own photos or videos just fine but when I go to youtube or other video streaming sites (which is pretty much the only reason I USE it !) I can browse and choose my videos but as soon as I play them it goes on fullscreen mode and starts to buffer endlessly.  Then  the message "cannot play content, try again later" pops up and quickly disappears.
    As soon as I stop Airplay though, the video resumes on my devices...
    I think this happened after the last update...not sure though
    Any ideas?

    So there could indeed be wifi issues then.
    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
    The following article(s) may help you.

  • IOS Client Video Streaming with Chapter Markers

    Are there any ios client applications that will receive an h.264 video stream and provide a list of chapter markers for the video?
    It seems AVFoundation definitely supports this: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/releasenotes/AudioVideo/RN-AVFoundation-O ld/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40011199-CH1-SW6
    However, I can't find any client applications out there that seem to support this. I can't even really get a clear answer as to whether or not HTTP Live Streaming for iOS has a feature for providing chapter metadata.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    My most sincere of apologies.  My "instruction redo" for clarity included a cerebral gaseous emission in the one place that was most important.
    Step 6 should read "Select "Movie""
    1. Go to iTunes->Home Videos
    2. Right-click the video
    3. Choose "Get Info"
    4. Click the "Options" tab
    5. Click the "Media Kind" pull-down menu
    6. Select "Movie"
    7. Click "Okay"
    Fell into that trap where you read something over several times to make sure you got everything correct, but you aren't really looking because you KNOW you got everything right.
    Not only that, but I got it wrong the first time as well, although Florbid got it right (for Windows) in spite of my initial blundering.  If you read my first post, I say to select "Video", which was supposed to be "Movie" even then.
    Hope this relieves your frustration.  But if it doesn't solve the problem, I have no other answer.
    Message was edited by: Clyde Crocker to replace "brain **** " with "cerebral gaseous emission".

  • SpryTabbedPanel: Flash player in tabs do not play video streams

    Note: I am a complete noob (no experience with Javascript and rudimentary experience with htlm/css). Please be patient (I hope that this is the correct forum for this) and know that I am appreciative of any help or solution that anyone can provide.
    Using Dreamweaver CS4 on Mac OS 10.5.8
    We recently switched all of our streaming servers from Windows Media (good riddance) to Flash Media Server 3.5 (now getting awesome H.264 quality in comparison).
    I was asked to re-design this webpage with the aim of re-organizing the content so that it is more accessible:
    http://www.librarymedia.net/VideoGallery.html
    We used Adobe's test page for our first page:
    http://www.librarymedia.net/flash/videoplayer.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.4/live/livestr eam&type=live&idx=10
    This was meant as a temporary page to get us started, and as you can see, it needs work but at least it works.
    I've been working the the final version of this page. My boss wants a tabbed web page with links to our video streams (tab for each category of streams).
    This is what I have so far:
    http://www.librarymedia.net/Flash2/videoplayer2.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.4/live/lives tream&type=live&idx=10
    I realize that I had several options before building this. One, I could have made a separate page for each tab and linked them with a tab menu. In hindsight, this might have been a better option since I could have just copied the working page that we already have for each tab. Or I could have done what I have tried to do: to use Dreamweaver's SpryTabbedPanel to make the tabs and insert a Flash player with links into each tab.
    The problem:
    1. The streams do not play. The player says "initializing" and then "please enter a stream name and play". Please note that I used SpryURLutils to get each link to open in the appropriate tab.
    2. After reading about the benefits of external vs. inline javascript, I took all of the inline javascript that was contained in Adobe's sample page and placed it in an external file. I tried placing the javascript back into the source code (inline), but this did not fix the problem. I guess there is a Javascript problem or I need extra Javascript code to get this to work.  The javascript code is below. Use view source in your web browser to see source code. Please let me know if I need to provide more information.
    Thanks.

    Should I have posted this in the Spry forum instead? My apologies if this is the wrong forum.
    >There is a sample application of the code included with the zip file  which shows how to implement it.
    The sample doesn't really tell me what I need to do to the code to make it work (I do not know javascript), and unfortunately, I have not found any helpful instructions/documentation online. You've given me the answer, I just don't know enough to implement it. This is what I've done:
    1. Placed the FAVideo.js file in my site folder and linked it to the page: <script src="FAVideo.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    2. I added the following code (taken from the SimpleDemo.html example inside the FAVideo folder). My comments in bold. Page at
    http://www.librarymedia.net/Flash2/videoplayer2.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.6/vod/mp4:Ol ympics2010_640x480.mov
             <! To the <body> section:-->
    <body onLoad="">
        <div id="divOne"></div>
    <!-Do I have to place the entire page within the "divOne" div (or just the section containing the tabs) in order for the javascript to work?-->
             <!-In the <head> section: -->
       <script type="text/javascript">
            playerOne = new FAVideo("divOne", "TabbedPanels1", "demo_video.flv",0,0,{ autoLoad:true, autoPlay:true });
        </script>
    <!- I noticed that the body code added a div id called "divOne", so I added the "TabbedPanels1" div id to the above code thinking that this would apply the javascript code to all of the tabs. Dreamweaver adds <div id="TabbedPanels1" class="TabbedPanels"> to the page when you insert the tabbed menu, so I'm thinking the javascript has to point to either one of those for it to work. The "demo_video.flv",0,0 code is probably unneccesary, right? As you can see, I'm completely clueless. -->
        <script>
            playerOne.addEventListener("playheadUpdate",this,myHandler);
            playerOne.removeEventListener("playheadUpdate",this,myHandler);
            function myHandler() {
                //alert("eh");
        </script>
    </body>
    Once again, thanks for your help.

  • CTD bug in simple video streaming applet.

    I'm trying to write a simple applet to use JMF to allow an end-user to view a video stream that's being served up by VLC. It doesn't have to look immensely pretty (in fact, streamlined is what I want most). I swiped some code from the jicyshout project (http://jicyshout.sourceforge.net) which handles streaming MP3s, and borrowed a framework for an applet from one of Sun's example applets for the JMF.
    Here's my code so far:
    ** begin file SimpleVideoDataSource.java **
    import java.lang.String;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import javax.media.*;
    import javax.media.protocol.*;
    /* The SeekableStream and DataSource tweaks are based on the code from
    * jicyshout (jicyshout.sourcefourge.net), which was written by Chris Adamson.
    * The code was simplified (no need for mp3 metadata here), cleaned up, then
    * extended for our puposes.
    * This is a DataSource using a SeekableStream suitable for
    * streaming video using the default parser supplied by JMF.
    public class SimpleVideoDataSource extends PullDataSource {
    protected MediaLocator myML;
    protected SeekableInputStream[] seekStreams;
    protected URLConnection urlConnection;
    // Constructor (trivial).
    public SimpleVideoDataSource (MediaLocator ml) throws MalformedURLException {
    super ();
    myML = ml;
    URL url = ml.getURL();
    public void connect () throws IOException {
    try {
    URL url = myML.getURL();
    urlConnection = url.openConnection();
    // Make the stream seekable, so that the JMF parser can try to parse it (instead
    // of throwing up).
    InputStream videoStream = urlConnection.getInputStream();
    seekStreams = new SeekableInputStream[1];
    seekStreams[0] = new SeekableInputStream(videoStream);
    } catch (MalformedURLException murle) {

    Now, I'm still new to the JMF, so this might be obvious to some of you... but it's exploding on me, and crashing to desktop (both in IE and Firefox) with some very fun errors:

    (plenty more here, I can post the rest if necessary)
    The problem seems to be coming from the "return seekStreams" statement in the first file; when I have execution aborted before that (with a fatalError call), it doesn't crash.
    Any tips/hints/suggestions?

    You should write your own Applet, where you can easily get the visual component (getVisualComponent())and show it directly in your Applet (you call it "embedded"). As far as I know, all examples (AVReceive* etc.) use the component which opens a new window.
