Downloading Desktop Manager is tooooo Slow

I am trying to download the Desktop manager 5.0.1 but it's tooooo slow using the Check for update option as well as IE browser download. why? any other server to download from?

It's never been known to be fast. Be patient. It is Monday.
I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 5, withOUT the Media Manager. Download Desktop Manager from here:

  • Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager Soooo Slow

Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager are so slow. Why? Just getting them to open takes five minutes or more.

I'm glad I found this thread.
I loaded the Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager 2 days ago. It completely crippled my laptop (running Vista, 4GB RAM etc), which previously ran very well.
I suspected it was Roxio when I watched it take 20 minutes to install.
Worringly, my laptop was crippled without the Desktop or Roxio software being used. The response rate was once every 5 minutes, and when eventually getting to the Task Manager and looking at the Processes and Applications (a 15 minute job!), there was nothing untoward.
Having uninstalled them and rebooted, the laptop is back to its former glory so quite what Roxio was doing in the background, I have no idea. I won't be touching it again.

  • Desktop Manager v6.0 is unusable.

    Hi
    I have a Curve 8310.
I have moved back to using DM 5.0.1.42 in place of 6.0.0.43 for the following reasons:
DM6 auto-mounts my BB's flash drive whether I want it to or not. This means I have to unmount (by hand) this drive before I unplug the BB. This is a nuisance. There is no option I can find to turn this off, and the handset prompts me (unanswered) if I want to do  this.
DM6 runs the device back-up every time I connect the BB. This considerably increases the length of time it takes to to a "quick sync". There is no option I can find to turn this off.
DM6 does not update the "last backed up" date on the front page. This is sloppy and an indication of insufficient testing.
DM6 is extremely slow in comparison with DM5, the backup issue above notwithstanding.
DM6 frequently crashes, with the dreaded "BlackBerry Desktop manager has stopped working" message. I have been through the annoying "deinstall, clean out registry, reinstall" procedure (several times), and this hasn't helped a bit (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit, Outlook 2007).
The DM6 announcement page is full of complaints similar to this, and no usable help whatsoever from RIM. Someone called "BlackberryHelp_Pavel" (I think) keeps telling folks to "uninstall, follow the [registry cleanout] procedure, try installing under a different profile", with NO indication that this does anything useful.
The download page for DM6 gives me a file called 600_b047_multilanguage.exe, and I wasted time downloading what I thought might be an upgrade (6.0.0.43 -> 6.0.0.47) and hopefully some bugfixes, only to find it contained what I already had, which was 6.0.0.43.
DM6 has wasted a considerable amount of my time. Its back to DM5 for me, because DM5 works.
    DM6 is a disgrace.
    M

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Desktop 6 as I have had exactly the opposite experience.
I tried for many many months to get Desktop 5 to work with my Win 7 64 system, and gave up trying. Since updating to v6 it has been fautless,
Version 5 on a previous PC was fast when syncronising, but 6 is even faster.
Yes, connecting the media card is a pain, but only when using Documents To Go sync. I never dismount the card, just disconnect the BB from the PC by pulling out the USB connection, and no problems so far.
Regarding doing a Backup every time you connect, just turn it off, or set when you want it to happen. To do this from Desktop manager select Device options...> General tab > uncheck Backup my device (or choose when you want it done).
Personally I love v6 (so far), and hated v5 because I could not get it to work on my PC, but we are all different.
ps  Should have said that I just installed it over the top of my non working v5 (no clean install)
pps  Just did another backup and the date has changed on the home screen

  • Desktop Manager Sync Problem

I have the latest desktop and device software.  I can sync the BB with the Calendar in Outlook, but only after I added another Mail Profile as advised elsewhere.  When I try and sync the Address book (with Outlook's Contacts), the Desktop Manager just beeps and terminates.
In a support article it was suggested to delete the Intellisync folder and trying again; no luck.
I activated the log function and get the following output:

  • Do I Have To Remove 4.5 Desktop Manager, Too?

Hello. I have been having a common problem. I got an upgrade to Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0 and then I started to get Roxio Media Manager continually popping up demanding that I find a file (which I didn't hav) called "Roxio Media Manager.msi" I researched how to get rid of that annoying popup from Roxio and find that I had to deinstall my Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0 in order to make the Roxio demands go away.
However, I have a copy of Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5 which seemed to work well, still on my computer. I did deinstall 5.0 Desktop Manager, so far I have not had any intrusions from Roxio.
If I were to go through the routine that is written in the DOC ID KB02206 (How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software) I would have to follow up with a painful and scary routine involving my registry, not something I relish. However, that would get rid of all the Desktop Managers and the software associated with Blackberry and Roxio in my computer.
    So, my questions are:
Do I have to deinstally 4.5 version of Desktop Manager?
Can I still run my Blackberry on 4.5 Desktop Manager if I have the OS version 4.5.0.124 on my Blackberry?
If I have to deinstall 5.0 and 4.5, what shall I install by way of a Desktop Manager for my Blackberry and where shall I look for this?
Has the problem associated with the Roxio Media Manager been solved? If I reinstall 5.0 (or higher) will I get the same problems?
I am using the OS version 4.5.0.124 on my Blackberry, I have Windows XP Pro installed on my computer.
Thanks for your help in this.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    Fabienne wrote:

Maybe...if things are acting funky, it is a good idea to do the clean uninstall and then a clean install.
Fabienne wrote:Can I still run my Blackberry on 4.5 Desktop Manager if I have the OS version 4.5.0.124 on my Blackberry?
Probably...I normally recommend that one have a version of DTM that is at least as new as the device OS version. So, in your case, DTM 4.5 = OS 4.5.0.124. But, you'd be missing out on all of the fixes that have come since DTM 4.5.
Fabienne wrote:If I have to deinstall 5.0 and 4.5, what shall I install by way of a Desktop Manager for my Blackberry and where shall I look for this?
The biggest dependency on DTM version comes from if you are synching via USB tether (or BT). Different versions of DTM are compatible with different versions of PIM's...see this matrix:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
Once you've chosen your appropriate DTM version, you can obtain it from here:

Media Manager remains problematic (slows the system, sometimes causes strange things to happen). But I use it quite infrequently, so can't speak to specifics. I do know that the update to DTM 5.0.1 that I received yesterday included a replacement for MM, so perhaps some things have been fixed (though time will tell). You can, from the above link, select a version of DTM that excludes MM if you don't need it at all...that's usually the best way to go if one does not need MM.
Good luck and let us know!

I am using a BlackBerry Bold 9700 and recently i just tried to update my BB through the computer. However, The Desktop Manager does everything nicely except that the restore data service part is taking tooooo much of time. I waited like 45 mins and the bar wouldn't even move an inch...
Any idea whys that ? Is there any solutions ?

  • Desktop Manager 5.0.1.18 uninstall errror

I seem to be trapped with a no-longer working Desktop Manager.  At one recent point I had Manager 5.0.1.18 and 6.0.1 both installed on my computer.  I tried to upgrade to 6.0.2 but got the error message that Windows XP SP3 was required, so I downloaded it.  It made my rather old computer at work just to slow to deal with, so I uninstalled SP3 whereupon 6.0.2 would not work, so I uninstalled it.  In the course of all this I tried to uninstall 5.0.18 but it wouldn't uninstall because the msi was missing.  I searched for it and found three, none of which worked.  Now 5.0.1.18 isn't working either.  I cannot reinstall it because basically it no longer exists.  If I try to reinstall from my original CD, it won't do it because it says that a more current version of DM is already installed.  If I try to install a newer version of 5.0 it won't do it because it can't uninstall the old one.  I tried the fix(s) in KB04272  but none of the four will work.  #1 is using control panel and gives the missing msi message, #2 just didn't work and gave me the error about the more current version already installed, #3 is really #1 again, and  #4 won't work, because RIM doesn't have the matching version of DM (5.0.1.18) available anywhere I can find and it seems to be VERY specific as to version since I have found three that must go with older versions none of which work.  You can probably tell from my verbosity that I'm getting frustrated and frankly pissed.

  • Desktop Manager cleared all Calendar entries.

    Hello,
I installed the latest version of Desktop Manager on my new laptop and was checking it out when I pressed the clear button in the Advanced Backup / Restore screen. It was at the time on the Calendar line so it cleared all the entries in the Calendar. No "Are you sure?" no nothing! Just cleared it....
As my previous laptop was really really slow, my last backup is from February. So before I restore that one, does anyone know of a way to "undelete" the entries? Seeing the speed at which the Desktop Manager cleared it, I was wondering if it didn't simply set the nuber of entries to 0 but didn't actually delete anything. Could that be reset?
Any help / clues would be really appreciated as this little device is my whole life!!
    Many thanks.

I also recently started having the problem described above. The Calendar events stopped showing on the Today screen using any of my Today themes. I have a Blackberry Curve 8330 using the 4.5 OS.
I found that a Google calendar utility was running. I deleted it and then went to Options-->Advanced-->Default Services. The Calendar setting (CICAL) had been changed to point to my Google email account rather then my Yahoo email account. I changed it back to Yahoo and the problem disappeared on all Today themes. The calendar events were now showing on the Today screen.
I haven't installed anything lately so what I am guessing happened in my case has to do with the QuickPull utility for soft resetting the system.  Recently, the free version of the program has started displaying ads following the reset. If you are not careful to tab to 'OK' you might install whatever is being pushed. I am guessing that I did exactly that and just didn't notice it. The Google app installed itself as a startup program and was probably responsible for changing my Calendar CICAL option.
There is no need to use the Blackberry Desktop manager when doing the above corrections and a reset is not required.
Hope this helps somebody out there.

  • Bold 9000 on Mac Desktop Manager - Can't Remove Any Applications

In Mac Desktop Manager I go to applications and select the ones I want to remove.  I get a message saying:
Validation failed because a module marked for update (net_rim_bis_lib) is not available on local disk
Then, it cancels the application removal.
I am trying to remove some applications that I loaded (QuickPull among others) that I think are slowing down my Bold.  I have deleted them when on the Bold, but they still appear as loaded in the Desktop Manager.  Ever since putting this app on my BB, I get many more clocks and it runs much slower.  Thanks for the help.
I have done a battery pull for 10 minutes, but no change.
    Richard

Not having a media card in your BlackBerry may affect your ability to transfer media files onto it. There is a file size limit of 2.86MB when transferring files into device memory. http://bbry.lv/9XNuy0
Have you verified that the applications you are trying to install are supported by your current wireless provider? Unlocked devices from one provider may not have full functionality on another network.

  • Desktop Manager will not upload

    Curve 8520 just purchased
I have got emails working from my Gmail account but want to upload contacts before I switch my number over from my Nokia E71.
Have used CD of Blackberry User Tools as provided but that does not appear to have very much on it and does not provide Desktop Manager so
I have tried to upload Desktop Manager from website and it gets close to the end and then says the process was interrupted and that nothing has been installed.
Please can someone advise - do I need to uninstall the Device Manager?
Have looked in the longer User Guide but could not see anything of help.  Is there a specific resource to go to on the Blacberry website for specific users like me who want to link with a Gmail account?
    Hopefully
    Robert Clarke

    1. If your Gmail contacts are in your Gmail address book on the Gmail account at their webmail, once you activate the BlackBerry device on your service provider account and SIM, and set up your Gmail email account to push to the BlackBerry, you will find the box to check to "sync gmail contacts" to the BlackBerry device.  Read more detail here:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB19269
    2. Keep trying the download (you're downloading, not uploading, I hope) to your PC. Perhaps you got a bad or slow server, just try again.
I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 6. Download Desktop Manager from here:

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager won't read Blackberry Torch

I've been having trouble with my Blackberry Torch as my computer will not recognize it in Blackberry Desktop Software. It's actually very wierd because I will plug my phone in to a USB port and the port will charge the phone, but nothing else happens. The reason why this is weird because I've had it work for a long time and then one day, it just didn't work any more. I've done every type of trouble-shooting listed in the Help menu including rebooting the computer/phone, replacing the cable, re-downloading the software, etc etc. I've also been able to connect the phone using Bluetooth, but unfortunately I was limited with what I could do with that connection (ie. I couldn't tranfer any music/media).
So yeah if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

    VertNellie wrote:
I'm having the same exact problem and I have done each and every troubleshooting tip, and nothing has worked. Any other suggestions?
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is something you should first perhaps try, before those tricks. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    4) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Now you are ready to try the tricks, but since this thread is so ancient, I'll re-post my current list of things to try...
Here is the list of troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Can not install Desktop Manager because of DEP.

    Good day BlackBerry users,
I've just got myself a BlackBerry Storm 1, and I'd like to install the desktop manager.
I've downloaded the install from the site and I tried to install it.
In the beginning it's going well, I start it, select my country... but then...
...When I've selected my country and I click next the install freezes and I get the DEP error.
I've looked around these forums, but I do not get any help.
    Could someone please help me?
I'm pretty annoyed by this error.
I hope to get a useful answer.
    Kind Regards,
    Jurriën van Rooij.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately no, like with most software installations, information has to be written to certain parts of the computer, such as the registry, and you can't just use a USB flash drive to run your applications.
This error is a Microsoft Windows error and occurs when Windows detects code running from a protected location.  At this point, Microsoft is your best bet for support as this is not a BlackBerry Desktop Manager error.
    Thanks

  • Desktop Manager 6.0 stopped working

For no apparent reason my DM version 6 stopped working yesterday.  I have de- and re-installed it and rebooted with no improvement.  When the application opens I see a partially loaded screen.  Very limited text and drop down arrows that do nothing, no menu options.  I do not get an error message.  I'm using Windows 7 and nothing about my laptop has changed since the last time I used the DM, except for I installed SKYPE.
What can I do if a re-install did not take care of it?
    Thanks,
    Carolyn
