Downloading ebook

Could someone please help me. What is the easiest way to download books? I'm not computer savvy so I would need a step-by-step instruction or send me a link.
I tried to download a free book this morning and I don't know what I did wrong.
Also, would you download the books under Adobe or Palm Reader. This was the message that I received when I tried to purchase a ebook last night from another website:
One or more of the eBooks you are about to purchase is in Secure (encrypted) Adobe Reader 7 format. This format requires you to have an activated version of Adobe Reader 7 to read on your PC or MAC. Encrypted Adobe Reader eBooks may not work on Palm PDAs (and will not work on PocketPCs) and you should not purchase these eBooks for the purpose of reading on any PDA. Fictionwise will not guarantee that any encrypted Adobe eBook will work on any PDA.
We do have Adobe 8 install on our computer.

Ebook downloading (again)

I'm having a problem where I've tried to download an ebook from my quick install and when I try to get the ebook, it starts to download and when the little box pops regarding loading all my ebooks (which are on my SD card) it says please wait... and stays stuck on the ebook that I'm trying to download. I can't even cancel what I asked it to do. I can't get to any of my other ebooks on this SD card. I've done a numerous amount of soft resets and everytime I go back to download the new ebook I just purchased it won't do anything but stay stuck. I've even gone and upgraded my hotsync but nothing is working. Any suggestions for this problem?

No the SD card isn't locked. I also just notice that something (I think) is wrong with the quick install on my computer. I just did a upgrade on my hotsync from a link in this forum. I used to have quick install on my desktop, and now is has been removed. So I'm getting this new warming for my quick install that say's the following: Program C:\Program Files\palmone quickinstall.exe, abnormal program termination. Not sure what that means and if that is part of my problem. I've tried a click and drag to the start install tool from file installation, however; nothing has worked so far. The ebook company sent me another link, however; everytime I go to the library to open the ebook, it starts up but once it gets to this particular ebook it freezes on the name and I have to do a soft reset. I've waited (for over 10 minutes) for it to stop saying please wait but I still have to do a soft reset.

Downloading an eBook from a website

Hi,
This morning I downloaded, or I thought I downloaded, an eBook from a website. It's a free book. I wonder
where do the downloads go in my Playbook? I looked in files and Docs to Go, but it's not there. I tried again to
download the same eBook, and I get a message indicating that it's already downloaded and if I wanted to change the name, so I clicked "cancel" on the tab. Another thought, does the eBook download into the eBook app on the Home screen? Just wondering about that.

Downloads folder. You will have to install AIR Browser app to see it, and something like Book Reader for ebooks app ($£€1) to import and read it.

How do I use Edge Animate to make a clickable image which can be used in Author, and which will redirect you to a different page in your ebook?

If anyone has experience with Edge Animate, I know that I can make an image clickable, and I can insert a url to define where it will go once clicked. But I want to make a widget to use in iBooks Author, that can take the reader to a certain page of the book. Is this possible?
It all seems very complicated. Make one thing in Edge Animate, then somehow have that reference something in Author, which will finally work in an ebook. I have no clue where to begin.

Having a problem with eBooks in my iTunes library.

As the title says, I'm having some problems with the iTunes library not reflecting what's actually on the disk.
I add the ebook and it seems to add ok. The file gets consolidated into /mymusic/books under the author correctly, but the book is missing from the library. The book is in ePub format, and seems to have the right file extension and shows up as a file of "ePub" type in windows explorer.
Any ideas? Is there a way to re-build the library or a portion of it?

How can I use one background jpeg in my ebook without a large file size

I'm guessing that by simply adding a background image or watermark by default adds a separate copy to each page. Since I am intending for them to be the same on all pages except for the title page, how do I shrink the final file size of my PDF eBooks so that the image is stored once but shown on all pages?

Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function. So as far as I understand, I cannot activate it without a sim card. I have been using metropcs for about two years and it does not have a sim card. In this case, do I really not have another choice but wait for two weeks to listen to music? My Mp3 player just failed me and I really need to listen to music but on the other hand, while I can use my iphone as an mp3 player in two weeks, I don't want to spend more money on a new one. So, do you have another suggestion? For instance, can I use a friend's sim card to activate mine? Would this cause any trouble, when I go home and buy a local carrier? How can I show eBooks by category in iTunes 11?

Hi All - I manage all my ebooks for my ipad in iTunes, was pretty good until now - I can't view my books split by category?
I can see the giant list, and add category to the table and sort y that, but it's clunky and ugly.
Is there a way to view categories in exactly the same style as view by author? If not is there any way of hacking this in? Is it possible to make it a feature request?
Has rather spoilt my otherwise great impressions of itunes 11 - cheers!

I can't read my eBooks I purchase from iTunes on my desktop or laptop. Do I need to go Amazon? Kindle?

Is there a future upgrade or availability to read eBooks purchased from iTunes on my desktop or laptop Mac?
If not, I am just going to get the free Kindle application and buy all of my ebooks from Amazon as I can read them on any Mac.
I purchased a book from Apple yesterday so that I could read it as a break during my work day at my office and it would not open. I checked and sure enough, you can't read books on your desktop Mac using Apple software. I tried the Adobe Digital software and a couple of others but the protection on the ebook prevented anything but my iPad or, if I had one, iPhone from reading it.
Considering that I spent many thousands on getting the best Macs for work and only hundreds on the pad, it is just a little irritating that I can't read a book on the pro machinery but can on the consumer toy.

We don't know what Apple plans on doing to change this (and it may not be just Apple but more likely the publishers, since Apple would, of course, do whatever it could to maximize sales/profits). Right now you can only read Apple books on mobile devices. Sure, buy them from Amazon if you want to read them on the computer. We don't work for Apple so we're pretty impartial on this kind of advice.
You might also see what your library can offer. My wife can browse the county library from her iPhone, borrow e-versions, and read books on it too. Free!

EBook file protected error on Cocoon reader

Hi,
I hope someone here can help with a persistent problem!
My wife and I both have Cocoon eBook readers (model BK7021) and have joined our local library. We have both created Adobe IDs and have successfully downloaded several books form the library to a desktop PC and a laptop, both running Windows 7. We have Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 installed.
We can both open and read the books on the computers but when we copy them to the eBook readers we both get the same error 'eBook file protected'.
Can someone explain where we are going wrong?

Thank you! Finally tracked it down to HKCU / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / User Shell Folders / Personal
- but it took a bit of finding. Why regedit couldn't find the string I don't know - either I or it stuffed up somewhere. Would be nice if there were a option in Reader for where you want it put - or are they trying to keep it as simple as possible (eg for idiots like me?).

Plug in second eBook reader, can't read library book on PC

I'm not quite sure how flexible overdrive Library loans using ADE are meant to be, so maybe I'm trying to do something I shouldn't, but the behaviour is very odd.
I have been using my local library and reading loaned books on a Bookeen Opus; using ADE as a necessary intermediary.
This has worked fine (apart from an ADE irritation mentioned in another post, but that is pretty much a side-effect).
I can read the books on the PC if I want to (which I generally don't), and on the eBook reader.
My wife recently got a second reader (Sony PRS-350) which we have registered with the same Adobe id.
I have transferred a bought DRM book to it and that worked fine, we can read it on PC or either reader.
However, I am getting very odd effects with library books.
I've transferred books from her library account and mine onto the PC, and on to the first reader.
No problems, all behaved as before.
BUT ... when I plug the new reader into the computer, ADE gets upset and refuses to go near any of the library books.
When I try to copy a library book to the reader, I get a message 'CE_COPY_NOT_ALLOWED - No permission to copy the book.'
And when I try to read one on the PC with the new reader plugged in, I get 'Unable to open ... No record for this loan is found on this machine.'
Unplug the new reader and I can read the book on the PC; but obviously can't copy it.
Is this a feature of ADE and Adobe DRM rules on library books, or a bug in ADE, or a problem specifically with the Sony, or ...???
Googling gave me various people with 'No record for this loan is found on this machine' issues, but they all seemed different.
I guess I could install ADE on another machine with another adobeId for my wife, and register her reader with that id, but that seems a bit complicated. And not possible for lots of people who don't have a second PC.
Can anyone suggest a way around it?

You should not make generalizations based on your experiences with
DRM-protected library ebooks that don't allow copying and then say ADE
won't copy ebooks to a PRS-350. That's not true. I have a PRS-350 and I
am able to transfer ebooks to it via ADE. The difference is DRM
protection, which you've overlooked in your previous postings. THAT is
preventing your copying an ebook via ADE to any ereader.
I didn't say ADE wouldn't copy DRM-protected books, I said that it wouldn't copy DRM protected library books.
As I had mentioned in previous postings, it will transfer other DRM protected books with precisely the same copy protection information (except for the time expiry on the library books).
I should have been more precise: ADE 2.0.67532 won't copy Overdrive library books borrowed from Hampshire County Library to my Sony PRS-350 on my machine with Sony Reader 2.0.01.11080 installed. Others have similar issues. As Triantiwontigongolope20notes above, My Sony ereader worked fine with the old version of ADE but the new version is causing all sorts of problems. If you have sucessfully transferred DRM Overdrive books to your PRS-350 using ADE, can you please let us know the version level of ADE and Sony Reader (it's probably the underlying driver software which it installs that matters) you have installed? That might help us narrow down the bug that undoubtably exists.

There's an ebook reader app in App World for a small amount of money, like £1 or $1, that will read Kindle, EPUB, etc but they MUST be DRM free, which means any purchased Kindle books for example would need to be unlocked by an app on your laptop. You can decide if that is legal or not in your country. See link for full description of formats.

If it was me I would buy the Playbook as a very powerful outdoor business browser and emailer, and a Kindle for books.

Transferring an ebook to Samsung Galaxy tablet

I looked at Adobe's list of supported ebook devices/apps for use with Digital Editions and found that Mantano Reader--currently installed on my Galaxy Note 4--was on the list. I then followed the directions to connect the tablet to the computer on which the eBook is located with a USB cord. (The computer sees the tablet.) Then I opened Digital Editions per instructions, but the device doesn't show on the left side (or anywhere else) of the window. Therefore, I see no way to transfer my eBook to my tablet. Any ideas? I tried using Samsung Kies--the file isn't in a format that Kies sees.

There is no more Flash Player for Android and there won't be another. Android is no longer compatible with Flash Player. Playing Flash content is very processor consumptive and it drains your battery, also shortening the life of it. Android (Google) recommends using either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" as your browser if you need to view Flash content with a mobile device running Android. They're both free in the GooglePlay store. These browsers use "server side" rendering to reduce the load on your device.

Google Play ebook issues on ADE 2.0

A pdf e-book downloaded from Google Play does not display the table of contents, and the full-text search function does not work, when viewed on Adobe Digital Editions version 2.067275. However, when the original pdf I submitted to Google Play (I am a publisher) is viewed on ADE, the table of contents does display and the search function works. This suggests that something in Google Play's processing of the pdf disabled the search function and stripped the bookmarks, which are the basis of the table of contents. These problems do not occur in Google Play's preview copy of the ebook which is available to all.
The Google Book Team has been unable to resolve or explain the issue, and has suggested the fault may lie with ADE, perhaps with the settings. I am sceptical about this, but would appreciate advice from others who may have experienced these defects.

It's probably not a bug in ADE 2.0. ADE 2.0 was not designed to run under
Windows Vista. Jeff Wright has posted a couple of entries that have the
address of information that deals with ADE under Vista. Sonce I'm now on 7

I don't have an "Adobe ebooks" icon on my Pandigital Novel

I would like to download books from the library onto my Pandigital Novel. I have no problems buying books from Barnes and Noble and downloading them but I can't do it for library books.
Here's what I know so far:
1. I have to download the book into my Adobe Digital Edition on my PC and then transfer it to my ereader. Both devices have been successfully authorized.
2. I have successfully done this and dragged the book into the bookshelf for my ereader when it's connected to my PC.
3. I unplugged my ereader and waited for it to show up in my library which it never did.
4. I have looked up different topics in forums and I think I may have found my problem - apparently I am supposed to have an icon in my applications menu for "Adobe ebooks" - however, I don't have one. I have scrolled all the way over to the right of that menu and there's nothing that even resembles it. I tried to download some things from Adobe to make it appear but I'm not having any luck. I know I'm missing something because when I go to "My Computer" on my PC and look it up in the file for my ereader, it shows that it's there...I just need to figure out how to download it. When I do a search using my ereader, it finds no files by that name.
I'm lost, please help!

PART ONE:
1) Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaledi…
2) Scroll down. You should see a brown button that says "Install." Click.
3) Follow the given instructions.
4) Once ADE is downloaded, it will ask you to register and active your new program. To do so, you must go back to the website you started at (see above). In the top right hand corner, click "sign in."
5) On the left hand side of the screen, click the gold button that says "Create and Adobe Account." Follow the given instructions and provide the information in the required fields.
6) Once you have successfully registered, go back to the ADE program you downloaded and activate your program by giving the email and password you used when creating your adobe account.
PART TWO:
1) Go to your local library's website. There should be an option for downloadable media.
2) Choose your book(s) and proceed to 'checkout.'
3) Underneath all of your chosen book(s), there will be a button that says "download." Click this and download each eBook individually to an easy-to-find folder on your computer.
4) Go to the folder on your computer that contains your downloaded eBooks. Open them. They should open into the Adobe Digital Editions program that you just installed.
PART THREE:
1) Plug your Pandigital Novel into your computer.
2) On the program Adobe Digital Editions, underneath the "Bookshelves" on the left hand side of the screen, there should be an option that says "Pandigital Novel" (or some variation of that).
3) Drag your downloaded library books into that bookshelf.
4) Unplug your Pandigital Novel.
PART FOUR:
1) Go to your home screen.
2) At the bottom of your PN (underneath the Bookstore and Library), scroll the Application Quick Launch Bar to the right. You should see an application that says "Adobe eBooks." All of your downloaded library books should be there.
**Don't forget that they are library books and must be returned! To do so:
1) Open your Adobe Digital Editions program.
2) On the left hand side underneath the "Bookshelves," open the Borrowed books.
3) Select the book that you would like to return. A small arrow should appear to the left of the book title. Click this and select "Return Borrowed Item."

You can only buy content from your own country's store i.e. the Egyptian store if you are in Egypt - you need to be in a country to use its store, so to use the US store you will need to be in the US and have a US billing address on your account. If there is an app or any other item that you would like to be buy that isn't currently available in the Egyptian store then you can try requesting that it be added, but unless the app's developer or rights-holder agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html
