This is a two year old post and your response has no relevance to the OPS question.

  • Thinking of buying an ipad.  is it possible to transfer photos directly from a camera to the ipad

Thinking of buying an Ipad2 to take on photo shoots so clients can look at photos at the time they are taken.  I know the Ipad will not accept my memory card, but is there another way of transferring photos directly from my camera to the Ipad?

There is the camera connection kit which supports SD cards (the kit has an SD card reader) and direct transfer from the camera - some other card readers also work with it, but most require more power than is supplied to the kit. Moer info on the kit : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101
You can then copy the photos from the iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Downloading photo directly from digital camera to zen microph

Is it possible to download photos from my digital camera to my zen microphoto without my computer? Or is there another (small) hardward that would work? I'm traveling to asia and would like to store my photos but I'm not taking my computer.

I don't think it's possible to do it with a Creative player, but I've seen a few relati'vely low-cost portable hard disks that transfer directly from a camera or flash card.
Another possibility is just buy one or more large ( GB+) memory cards for your camera.

  • Not able to import canon raw CR2 photos direct from a camera into Lightroom 5.5

I’ve just purchased Lightroom 5 and updated it with the latest version 5.5, and I am running windows 7.  Everything appears to be working fine, however I am not able to import Canon CR2 raw files directly from my camera.  Importing JPEG files directly from camera works fine, however Lightroom can not find any CR2 raw files?
If I copy the raw files through the Canon utility tool on to my hard drive, it appears I am then able to import into my Lightroom catalogue, as Lightroom is then able to see these files on my hard drive.  However why can not Lightroom see these files on my Canon 450D camera and import directly from there in Lightroom?
Are there any setting or preference I need to change to be able to do this?

Are you able to import 450D raw files into LR5.5via USB connection and are you on Windows 7/8?
I agree with your observations concerning SD vs CF card fragility, but they also have a limited number of insertions before failure.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Durability
The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device.
All my Canon cameras have micro-USB connectors. With one (1) insertion and removal per day that equals 10,000 days, or about 27 years before end-of-life! SD and CF cards are also rated at ~10,000 insertion and removals, but more prone to damage from static electricity and handling due to the exposed contacts and fragility of CF card sockets.
So there's no real advantage from the camera wear perspective to using a card reader. I'd say use whatever method is easiest for your workflow, but handle memory cards with care and avoid exposing them to static discharge.  Ground yourself to something metal before removing memory cards and inserting them into the card reader, especially in cold Winter months.
BTW- I helped design one of the first semiconductor DRAM memory systems back in 1970. We killed more memory chips than I care to count before we discovered they were easily damaged by static electricity. Today's ICs have built-in protection, but you can still damage them with a big enough static ZAP!

  • Can I download photo's directly from a camera to my ipod touch?

Camera is a SONY Alpha with 32G flash card and want to download directly from the camera to the iPod touch.

No it does not.  I have one and know and link says for iPad only. The camera connection kit only works with the iPad
    This does work:
AirStash®: wireless flash drive + pocket media server + SD adapter ...
    Google for:
    SD card reader for iPod

  • Is it possible to upload photos directly from a digital camera to the Zen Sle

    Hello
My girlfriend and I are going to South America. Therefore, I am not only looking for a MP3-player, but also a place to store photos. The Zen Sleek court my attention.
Though, I would like to know whether it is possible to upload photos directly from a digital camera to the Zen Sleek? Does it require any extra cables or software? Or is it only possible to store photos through a ordinary computer and then transfer photos to the harddisc on the Zen Sleek?
    Regards
    Mads Lyngby Petersen

Short answer, I've never seen anyone try it.
Long answer, it might be possible using one of these USB bridge devices. Some of these devices are supposed to be able to bridge between a camera and a USB mass storage device, and then deal with hosting the connection and moving/copying the files.
I would be intruiged to know if someone's managed it, but as mentioned so far I've not seen anyone mention it.

  • HT4108 Will it be possible to download photos direct from a Cannon or Nikon camera to a iPadHD?

Will it be possible to download photos directly from a Cannon or Nikon camera on to a iPadHD?

You have to use Apple's Camera Connection Kit. It's best to import from the camera's SD card, rather than connect the camera.

Can I upload photos directly from camera to iPad.

You can transfer pictures from camera to iPad using the Camera Connection Kit (CCK)

  • Is there a way to download photos directly from camera to iPad?

Is there a way to download photos directly from camera to iPad 2?

Yes,  you need to buy the Camera Connection Kit from Apple.  It has two dongles that plug into the iPad, an SD card reader and a USB that you can connect your camera to.  (This USB port is for cameras, and I believe, for keyboards - not for attaching other devices to, like a hard drive.)

  • How can I get my new ipad 4 to read my compact flash cards? If not can I download the images directly from my camera?

how can I get my new ipad 4 to read my compact flash cards? If not, can I download the images directly from my camera?

Tom, thanks for your quick reply. I'm a commerical photographer using Canon 5D mk2's mostly and have in the past just downloaded images to a mac book for backup. I really liked the compact size of the Ipad and just got the retina model with the camera connection kit and seem to be hearing that CF readers can't be used with it b/c they draw too much power. Seems like I remember reading I could use a cord that might have come with my cameras to download directly to the Ipad. I haven't tried it yet as I can't find the connection but then you just said it can't be done?
I'm COMPLETLY lost as to your "first pluging in a flash drive to my computer, advice. Do you mean Ipad when you say computer?  "then put your movie/photo files into the folder." HOW????????
Then plug it into the Ipad??????     TOTALLY lost.
Also your saying just "do a google search for a reader doesn't work b/c NONE are able to work with the newer Ipads b/c they use TOO much power or so everyone says everyone that have tried.
Hope you can help a little more b/c I'm really getting frustrated with all the conflicting advice!
    Thanks, Dennis  [email protected]

  • Lightroom 5 not importing photos directly from card

I have Lightroom 5, and it's not importing photos directly from the memory card, either via card reader or with the camera plugged in.  I have a Canon 60D, and am shooting in RAW.
LR5 opens, and the photos show up as thumbnail previews.  I click to import, and I get a message that the files could imported because they could not be read.  If I immediately go to the "my computer" icon, the card reader (or camera, whichever is plugged in) does not show up as being connected to the computer.  If I unplug the card reader (or camera), let Lightroom open, then immediately go to the "my computer" icon before I try to import via LR5, the card reader shows up then.  I have to drag the images from the card onto my desktop, then import the images to LR5.
Anyone know why LR5 is doing this?

Greyed out photos means you have previously imported the photos into Lightroom, and there is no need to import them again (nor is it a good idea to do so). You need to go to the Library Module (not the Import dialog box) and find the photos and use them as you want.
If you try to import a not-greyed-out photo, and it takes "forever", close Lightroom and try deleting your preference file: Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5
