Downloading a DVD back onto my Imac

I made a movie on my IMAC last Christmas, and want to download it back onto my IMAC in order to burn a few copies for others. The problem is, when I load the DVD into the IMAC, I see no option for doing this. I don't see how to download it or place the movie anywhere on my hard drive. It seems I only have the option of playing the movie on the built in DVD player.
Thanks for any help on this matter!
Jeff

Thanks again Duane! It worked out just fine. Now that I have the copy of the DVD on the Disk Utility, is it possible to transfer it to iDVD? Or do I just leave it where it is at for now. I don't plan on keeping it on my hard drive forever, but until I copy it a few more times I will be leaving it on my system. Can you tell me what Verifying is, and if that step can be skipped when burning a new copy?
You've been a great help, as well as the others who lend assistance here!
Jeff

but could not find a way to burn them to a DVD.
Do you want to create a video DVD that will plan on a TV set via a DVD player or just burn the video files to a data DVD disk for storage?
If the former the read the following:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Softwareor eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
However, there are video DVD authoring apps that are available at the App Store that will create a video DVD disk.  They won't be as extensive as iDVD but can create a simple video DVD.
iDVD 7.1.2 is compatible with iDVD but we don't if it will be with the next system generation.

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.6 onto my iMac, that runs Yosemite, and the program won't open at all.

I just brought my iMac back from the Apple Store after having a new hard drive installed. I wanted to put my photos back onto the computer using the back-up I had made on an external hard drive.
I downloaded iPhoto from the App Store, and initially it opened. I tried to import a folder of photos, but nothing happened. It froze. I did a Force Quit, and tried to import just one photo. Again, it froze, and I did a Force Quit. Then I tried to simply open the program. I got the spinning wheel, and when I looked at the Force Quit box, iPhotos had stopped responding.
I tried to open it using Command+Option, and tried the first option to repair (I can't remember what that option is now), but got the same result. Then I unplugged the external hard-drive and tried twice to open it - once normally, and once using the Command+Option method. Same spinning wheel, and "not responding" message in the "Force Quit" box.
I sent the Force Quit reports (or whatever they're called) to Apple, but I have no idea what they said as I don't understand them.
    I have a 27 inch mid-2011 iMac, running Yosemite (10.10.1), and iPhoto is 9.6.
Please help! What am I doing wrong?

I just tried to open iPhoto by holding down option+command key, and opening it from the dock (and not the icon in applications) - and it opened!
Right-click or ctrl-click the icon in the Dock and select "options > Show in Finder". ,This will show you, where the iPhoto version is installed, that you are running.
It should be revealing the iPhoto version in your Applications folder. Does it?

  • How can I download MS Excel 2013 onto my iMac?

I'm a college student taking a MS Excel 2013 Specialist class. I tried to download Excel 2013 from the MS 365 subscription that was provided with my workbook, but I have learned that I cannot download it onto my iMac.  For some reason it's not available for a Mac???  Is there a workaround for this?  I was told by a Microsoft technician that if I had a Windows License I could then "boot the computer to bootcamp to use the Windows environment ."  Is that possible?  If so, will it hurt or be detrimental in any way to my iMac?

    1. Excel 2013 is a Windows product. You may be able to use Excel 2011 instead.
    2. Yes, that's possible.
    3. Setting Boot Camp up will require partitioning the internal drive. Back your computer up first.

  • HT4914 how do I download my music back onto my phone?

After the ios 6 upgrade on my iphone 4 all of my itunes were uploaded to itunes match/icloud. How do I download itunes again so it is resident on my iphone? I've already tried turning off itunes match on my phone, but no luck.

Did you back up by burning a regular Data DVD in iTunes or by dragging the files to the disc through Windows Explorer and burning in another program? If you did then open iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and make sure you have the box "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked. Insert your DVD and got to File>Add Folder to Library and choose your DVD from the navigation box: Adding Content to iTunes
If you used the iTunes back-up facility in File>Library>Back up to disc then iTunes should recognise the DVD as a back up when you load it up and ask you if you want to restore your tracks from the disc.

  • HT201272 i lost my iphone with music on that i paid for. how do i download it all back onto my new iphone without paying as i didnt have it backed up?

I lost my old iphone with music on which i paid for but never had backed up. how do i download it all again without paying?

    Hello, garethfraser1980
Thank you for the question.  If at any time a purchase is missing or deleted, you can always download it again at any time free of charge by accessing your purchase via the iTunes Store.  Below, I have an article that goes over how to do this.

  • HT4910 How do I download my data back onto my phone from icloud. I had to restore from computer but recent data is in icloud.

I had to restore my iphone from the computer. There is a lot of info on backing up to the icloud but now I need to get the info back that I stored 3 days ago . Please help. I know this is an easy question for somebody but not me.
    Thanks

If you can see the iCloud contacts in Outlook, you can copy them back to your PC by selecting all the contacts (click one, then press Control-A), then drag and drop the selected contacts to Contacts under My Contacts on the left sidebar of Outlook.
If you want to copy your calendar back to Outlook, select your iCloud calendar on the left sidebar of Outlook, switch to the list view (select View from the ribbon, then click Change View>List), select your events (click on a single event, then press Control-A), then control drag and drop them to Calendar under My Calendars on the left sidebar.
Then you can sign out of iCloud on the iCloud control panel and your local copies will still be there.  If you want to add your iCloud email account back to iCloud, you can do this with these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • Playing/downloading mini-dvd discs onto  a macbook

I have a Canon DC 301 camcorder which uses 8cm discs. I obviously cannot load these into my laptop, macbook Mac OS X (10.5.6),for use with i-movie but I am finding it hard to locate a suitable reader. Applecare referred me to the Discussion page as they had no direct information to give me. The camcorder has no external connection what so ever so I need a separate reader with a USB connection. All the sources I have tried say they have nothing "mac compatible". Anybody out there have any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Fin

You need a USB or Firewire external CD/DVD burner/reader that has a drawer that opens (as opposed to a slot.)
    You may find some [here|http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives>.
You might want to check your owner's manual to see what codec is used to record the audio and video on these 8cm disks. You will need to find software to convert the files into something that is readable by iMovie. Post the codecs here is you find them and we can steer you the right way.

  • Hi Guys - Can someone please help me confirm that I can download Logic Pro X onto my iMac

    My present system is :-
    Processor 3.06GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz Ram
    Software OS X 10.9.1
    Display 1280 X 720
    Storage - 290 GB free
I think I can download Logic Pro X but would appreciate if someone could concur before I purchase
    thanks guys
    steve Hardwick

Your Mac almost meets the minimum requirements for LPX....
    http://www.apple.com/logic-pro/specs/
The only catch might be your screen size.... but others seem to be able to use such a screen without much issue.. They have to do a little scrolling, in windowed mode, (as they cannot use full screen mode )  to see everything but thats about it. (I personally have never used such a screen so i am relying here on others testimony)
The i3 isn't the world most powerful processor but you will be able to use LPX's freeze and bounce features should you find you tax the processor/memory too much by using too many tracks at the same time....
Its really all down to what you plan to do with LPX and what sort of end results are you looking for...

  • Just downloaded adobe acrobat pro onto my iMac - installation seemed to go ok but it won't open.

Get a screen for a few seconds and then an error message saying its quit unexpectedly.  Any ideas?  I'm running OS X.

  • How can I install Mac OS X back onto my Imac

The other day I formatted my hard drive and partitioned it to 100 gigs of Windows XP before installing os X, thinking that I could do the bootcamp thing backwards. Now instead of the usual 298 gigs of harddrive space that should be available, the leapord installation disc can only read 100 of that; which can't be touched because it's formatted to ntsf. Does anyone know any way that I can uncover the rest of my hard drive and install os X without wiping the windows volume completely????

    Hi yeahcooperyeah;
My suggestion would be to start all over again by doing an Erase & Install of OS X. Then carefully read the Boot Camp documentation before embarking on that path.
If you don't like my suggestion , you might try reposting over on the Boot Camp forum. They might have other ideas over there.

  • How do I get my music back onto my mac ?

I had to reinstall OX Lion and now all my itunes are only on my iPhone.
How do I get them back onto the iMac?

Hey been there, done that. I moved my music to another external drive and accidentally deleted too much in the process. So the songs are still in iTunes but the Mac can't find them. Not surprisingly.
iCloud and Match are useless as iCloud says about all my songs on the Mac: "Downloaded". What a big help. Transfer purchases didn't work. Not via the iPhone, not via the iPad.
I tried various fixes and loads of software but the first thing that has actually worked is Touchcopy12 for Mac. Sporting a brand-new 2013 Mini now, I tried one song first and when it worked (eureka!) I purchased the software and it's now copying 1800 songs to my external hard drive, right from my iPhone 5.
Not that it was the end of the world but it's nice to have your music when you're at the computer.

  • I downloaded OS Marverick onto my imac it is not compatiable how do I change back to the appropriate O

i recently downloaded OS X Marerick  onto my 2009 iMac it is not compatible.  How do I remove this softwear and reinstall the correct OS system? My previouse system was OS X Mountain Lion.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac is not compatible, the OS X Mavericks installer wouldn't have let you install Mavericks. What are the problems you have got? It's much better than downgrading Mac OS X which, in the case of your iMac, can be a very difficult job if you haven't got a Time Machine backup.
