Downloading Adobe Reader to Alternative Disc Location

The hard disc on my computer is partitioned into two partitions, C and D.  I currently have an older version of Adobe Reader installed on partition C which is too full to permit the Reader update to download.  I want to install the Reader updated version onto partition D in the "Programs" folder in D. How do I do this?

It would be helpful if Adobe provided an ability for the user to choose the download location destination.  I realize that downloading Reader onto a disc partition that doesn't include the operating system may not be optimum.
1. You CAN choose the download destination, but only with the FULL installer (which you can get here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/)
2. "May not be optimum" wouldn't apply to downloading Reader, but it would apply to installing it. Because Reader relies on registry entries for many functions to work, it would take a lot of modification to install on a drive other than the OS drive, and still have access to those features and preferences.
I was advised a long time ago (after I lost $25,000 worth of music from overloading and locking up an external HD) about hard drive space and "safety limits". I'll pass that advice along to you.
I was told: DON'T let a hard drive get below 25% available for very long and NEVER EVER let one get below 15% at all if you don't want troubles.
The HD I lost was a 500Gb and it had about 3Gb available when it locked up and became unusable.
I've made a tool for cleaning up HD space that goes beyond normal settings in the Windows Disk Cleanup.
Deep Clean.zip
Download that and unzip it.
Double click the "deepclean_set.bat" file to configure the FULL Windows Disk Cleanup. Check ALL boxes in the settings manager and click OK.
Double click the "deepclean_run.bat" file to run the "deep cleanup" on your system. It'll take a while as it removes a lot more unnecessary files than the regular cleanup does.
Aftwerward, you can delete the "deepclean_set.bat" file as you won't need it anymore. But hang onto the "deepclean_run.bat" file for future use when you need to clean up and free up space.

  • Unable to print PDF documents & then unable to download Adobe Reader

    Help,
I tried to print a PDF document this morning and received the message "The document could not be printed". I clicked OK and received a further message "There were no pages selected to print". My printer will still print word documents, emails and DVD covers produced using Nero Cover Design Essentials.
I have the latest version of Adobe reader 11.0.07. I went to the Adobe site and repaired Adobe Reader but it made no difference.
I therefore decided to uninstall Adobe Reader and reinstall it from the Adobe site. It downloaded OK but when I tried to install it I got the following message "Error: General Installation Error". I was using Mozilla Firefox so tried the same with Internet Explorer, with the same result.
I then downloaded the full Adobe reader from File Hippo, but still got an error message when I tried to install it (see below).
So I have gone from bad to worse and don't even have Adobe reader on my PC any more. The problem only surfaced this morning and last night I uninstalled two programs I decided I didn't need any more; Auslogics Disc Defrag and AVG PC Tuneup, but don't understand how uninstalling them could have caused the problem.

    Hi again Pat,
I checked the permissions in my Temp folder and there were none. So I ticked all the boxes, but when I ticked OK I got the permission denied message again, so the problem is still tied to me not having administrator privileges. Strange thing is that even though I was denied permission, the boxes still stayed ticked. However nothing has changed as far as my problems are concerned.
It would appear to me that the answer is to get my administrator privileges back, but I have been unsuccessful in that so far. I purchased a complete PC from a good supplier but the Windows 7 setup disc that came with it does not have the "Repair Your Computer" function on it, which I understand would allow me to sort out my administrator privileges? When I rang Microsoft and asked if there was any way I could obtain that function, by download or otherwise, they weren't at all interested as I hadn't purchased Windows 7 directly from them.
As for downloading Adobe Reader via the MSI folder, I don't need to do that because when I recovered my backup from an earlier period I once more had Adobe Reader. I can use Adobe Reader to open a PDF document but it would appear I must have administrator privileges in order to print a PDF document, which was how the situation was before I decided to uninstall Adobe Reader and download a new version. I can print any other type of document so obviously Adobe demands more before it will allow printing.
In the early stages I also downloaded Foxit Reader, as I had read good things about it, but again, for the same reasons, I could not install it.
I have googled "problem with loss of admin privileges" and got a lot of hits. I will try some of the suggestions that don't appear too complex, but if they fail I will go back to the supplier. I have to sort it. I have seen suggestions about starting a new account but am not sure what to do there, or indeed, if I should do that.
Thanks for all the attempts to help me so far,
    Barry

  • I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader ( I had it until recently) and don't have an "edit options"

I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader. (I had it until recently.) None of the "helps" seem to help. I can't even open Adobe Reader now.

Ignore the instructions about "edit options", to install Adobe Reader download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and run the installer. Alternatively, a direct link for the latest version of Adobe Reader is:

  • Keep getting screen that I need to download Adobe Reader to access documents.Using IE10 + Windows7

I already have Reader 10.1.4 installed.  I receive a 'message' indicating that I need to ' ... download Adobe Reader ... '   It is extremely important that I access a specific document from a website asap .....  but I cannot.   Please help !!!!

It could be that IE10 does not support Adobe PDF reader plugin.  If you have pdf reader already installed then you could download the files by right-clicking on the links and saving it on your machine which can then be opened in Reader.
Alternatively, either downgrade to IE9 (IE10 is still in beta and should not be used in production machines) or use alternative browsers like Firefox 15.

  • Can't download Adobe Reader - IE8 crashes

    Hi,
I am astonished that something as simple as downloading a file isn't simple.   Anyway, the problem I seem to experience is that IE8 crashes (or appears to crash) when trying to download Adobe Reader.   I had a very similar problem today with trying to download Adobe Flash.
I don't know what to do aside from looking at other options (non-Adobe reader on the internet).
I have a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with SP3.  I'm using IE8.
I wonder if it is possible to get Adobe Reader using an ftp connection.
    David

This might work (a free pdf reader by Foxit):
    http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/
I downloaded Foxit's free pdf reader and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes.   By comparison I've been struggling with trying to download the Adobe Reader (and Flash player) all day today (spent the day reading forum posts).
Now, I just need a replacement for flash.
Just for the record, I never would have switched to something else if it were possible for me to download Flash and Adobe reader.  It is beyond me why a company as large as Adobe cannot find a simplistic way to deliver an installation file.  It's perplexing and frustrating.   But, at least I found an alternative.

Explorer is a Microsoft, not an Adobe product. You can download it from
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie
For installing Reader, you may try downloading its full installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Why can't i download adobe reader  on my windows vista. Error message is invalid key

I can not download Adobe reader. The installation begins, but then I get the message that the key is invalid. I don't know what means or how to correct it. How can I get a vaid key.

That is a problem caused by Microsoft or one of their recent updates.  Here is the solution
in the Windows Explorer address bar type %APPDATA%
on the right-hand side double-click on the Microsoft folder
now look for a folder named Crypto; delete it, or rename it to something like Crypto-old
If you need more detailed help, tell us your Windows version.

  • I am trying to download Adobe reader latest version and when I hit download a bar appears at the top of the screen telling me to install missing plugins but firefox states plugins up to date what can I do?

I am unable to download Adobe reader to update my system as I only have version 7 on my computer. Normally I would be able to download direct from Adobe and my system would update but when I try to download a message bar appears which states on the left hand side "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" and on the right hand side there is a button which states "install missing plugins". When I click on the button a dialog box appears which states "no suitable plugins where found with a message next to a manual install button "unknown plugin(application/getplusplusadobe16299)

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • I cannot download Adobe Reader app using my IPod Touch 4th Generation due to iOS upgrade.

I have an IPod Touch 4th Generation (the older model) and the highest operating system stops at iOS 6.1.6. Unfortunately, when I tried to download Adobe Reader app, it only works for the newer IPod Touch 5th Generation with an operating system of iOS 7.0 or higher. My question is that since I cannot download Adobe Reader app, is there a way for me to open PDF files on my IPod Touch by using Safari? There is no way I can find an Adobe Reader app that works for my operating system or an operating system that works for iOS 6.0 or lower. Is there another program similar to Adobe Reader where I can open PDF files that works for iOS 6.0 or lower?
    Thanks.

    Krispy2010,
Please note that my instructions are intended for Adobe Reader for iOS, not for all iOS apps in general.
Adobe Reader for iOS does offer earlier compatible versions for iOS 5 and 6 via the App Store.  Because the supported iOS version for Adobe Reader for iOS is 5 or later.
Tech specs | Adobe Reader mobile app
However, I cannot speak for other apps, such as Costco app and NFL app that you have mentioned.  It is up to each individual app developer/company to decide whether to take advantage of Apple's App Store's features to offer earlier versions.
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support
If a compatible version isn't available, you can try contacting the app developer. Look for contact information on the app's product page in the App Store or Mac App Store.
