Downloading and installing drivers

Hello all,
I'm a complete newbie to downloading and installing drivers for my S-10, once you download the drivers, how and where do you install them without trashing your computer? Also I'd like to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 6GB; what I'd like to do is get 2 2x2 GB of RAM and run them with 2 1x1 GB of RAM does anyone know whether this will work or am I asking for trouble?

welcome to the forum!
driver installation and updates are made easy using thinkvantage system update. this comes pre-installed on all lenovo systems and can be used on clean installations as well. it saves from the tedious process of downloading individual drivers.
if you prefer to download individual drivers and install them manually, the S10 driver matrix can be found here.
regarding memory for the S10, this was discussed recently here. i suggest reading through that thread first before making any purchases. the 6GB combination you've mentioned will work as long as all modules match in type (ECC) and speed.

Now I had to download and install the HP drivers, as only HP Color LaserJet 2605 drivers are basically available. And if you use them they don't work. Printer seems to work but never prints.

Greetings. I would appreciate your help.
Solaris 10 successfully installed as guest on Win XP host. (Using Parallels Workstation).
Getting fatal IO error 146 (connection refused on Xserver "0.0" ... no screens found. Cannot bring up Xorg.
Research strongly suggest video adapter settings. Adapter is Mobility Radeon 9800 - not on HCL but not new either.
Since I cannot reach the Internet from Solaris, how do I download drivers and patches and transfer them to Solaris?

I too have tried the latest iTunes (12.1.1.4) in Win7. I did a search for latent drivers as you noted but found none. I am glad it worked for you - I'm still no-joy at this point. I'm able to install AMDS over and over again, without issue - it just doesn't start then iTunes launch fails with Error 7. I have to manually remove it.
I am able to connect my iPhone via USB cable and access my photo storage on the phone. I am just not able to install iTunes anymore. I have attempted resolution to this issue for almost two months now. Until that time, I was content with what was installed. It was only when the proverbial update box appeared that I attempted to 'update' my iTunes. WHAT A MISTAKE putting blind faith into an Apple request to update. I SUGGEST NOT TO UPDATE YOUR ITUNES IF IT IS RUNNING PROPERLY!
I realize now, once again I might add, my reliance on software provided by others. It's like anything else, I shouldn't rely on just one method for anything. Time to search for a more pleasant alternative than Apple. Truly, when it worked, it was good at its job, but now that I am wasting time I am looking seriously at upgrading to another type of smartphone and media management software. Way too much trouble for anything as simple as this should be. I wonder, is this a result of another feud with Microsoft?

Will downloading and installing on an existing Windows partition work?

Thanks to a computer information systems class I have, I'm able to get a downloadable copy of Vista (I can get 7 as well, but I hear that Apple doesn't officially support 7 at this time, not to mention the horror stories of drivers not working properly). I have 2 questions regarding this:
1. Can I download and install Vista on my Windows partition?
2. Did Snow Leopard improve the Boot Camp drivers so I won't be seeing things like BSDs or having the fan turning on full blast after a few minutes?

Which driver updates to download and install?

I am fairly new to the PC world. I need to update my drivers. When I go to the drivers I need to download and install there are usually 1, 2, or 3 different versions or choices of the driver I need to update in each category. Do I download them all or do I choose the most recent version? For future reference, what is the best rule of thumb to remember when updating drivers?

Take a look at the available Help Videos -- it is a good place to start.
Your computer's Device Manager lists the existing Drivers running / installed on your computer. You can compare the Device Manager driver list to what is in the Website Support pages when you wish to install updated versions of your Drivers.

Using the HP Support Assistant
I would set the HP Support Assistant to Notify (in settings) and allow it to gather up the recommended Drivers that it thinks are needed for your computer.
Then, UNLESS you have a good reason otherwise, I would UNCHECK any BIOS update recommendations made by the HPSA before allowing the HPSA to try and install Updates. Why? BIOS updates, even good ones, can turn a perfectly good computer into an expensive paperweight. Never update your BIOS unless you have a really good reason to do so.
Update the BIOS manually and only after reading the information at your computer's support website AND only after your computer is completely backed up. This includes the means to completely reinstall your Operating System should it be necessary. Heed this advice.
If, for any reason, the HPSA fails to install the Updates, you can always use the list the HPSA has created and then use that list to go back to the Support pages to download and install your Drivers manually.
General Good Habits
Back up your computer -- make your personal backups, create your Recovery Media.
Do this each time before adding Drivers, changing programs, etc.

I have ios 5.1.1. When I sync to iTunes, my purchased apps no longer work. They blink but do not open. The only way I have been able to solve this, is as follows: I delete one of the apps and then re-download and install it. Then, all my apps work.

My new iPod touch 64 Gig has a problem after syncing with iTunes. My purchased apps no longer work. I touch them and they seem to try to open but they do not.
The only way I have found to fix this is as follows:
I delete one of the purchased apps. Then I go to the App Store and re-download and install the same app. After that, all my apps work again.

The operation system for my computer is Window 8.1. I am currently trying to install a chinese game. Even though I have downloaded and install all the chinese language pack, I have even set the regional language locale to chinese (similified / traditional),
the chinese characters will not display properly in the game. Some people told me i need to set the locale to Chinese PRC, but I am not sure where to download this PRC language pack for window 8.1 (as I only have chinese simplified and chinese traditional).
I would greatly appreciate if someone can give me a hand in solving this problem. Thank you for your help in advance.

Please open Region, under administrative -> Language for non-Unicode programs: choose Chinese.

I am trying to download Adobe Reader, I have Windows 7 on my PC. Every time I get the download, I click on it to install the program, and I get the usual messages but I never get the install message. When I try the download again, I get a message telling me only one copy of the program can go on the computer. When I check the program list, it is not there. I have to restore my computer before I can attempt the download and install again. I have tried this at least 6 times but cannot install Adobe Reader. Please help me out with this. Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from

I had upgraded to FF 4.0.1 a while ago. Last night I got a bubble telling me that FF 4.1.0 was available and I should download and install. This version does not seem to exist. What is this about?

I had installed FF 4.0.1 and have been using it for a while. I am running Win XP Pro, SP2. Last night a messge came up informing me that FF 4.1 was now available and that it would be advisable to download and install it. I did this and everything seemed to work fine but when I look at the 'About Firefox' info under 'Help' it still tells me that I am running 4.0.1. Everything still seems to be functioning well but this disturbs me as it does not seem to have been a FF message. Can you please tell me if such a message was sent out, and if so, why, seeing as the version does not seem to have changed?
