Downloading and saving documents using the latest version of Firefox is problematic.

I am having bad experiences in downloading documents using the latest version of Firefox. When one downloads one is offered the option of opening or saving the document. When you select save it does not give you the option of saving it to a folder on your hard drive. You need to open it anyway in order to save it to a desired location. If you simply hit save its only saved to a temporary or downloads folder - and these can never be found again once you close the doc. Last night I lost many hours of work on a document in this way. It would be great if this could be sorted because I enjoy using Firefox. But I have now lost several documents inadvertantly and there is extra work in saving items - which is beginning to be quite a drag. Kind regards, Howard Varney. .

You are indeed up to date. Firefox stopped using that address as its default start page when 4.0 came out - the page you're using may be (wrongly) assuming that if you're looking at it, you must still be on Firefox 3.6.
If you [[How to set the home page#w_restore-the-default-home-page|restore the default home page]] you should get more up-to-date information.

Yes, but back up the library first. Note that if you're using Mac OS X 10.5.8, you won't be able to update iTunes past 10.6.3.

  • How can I check if I am using the latest version of Firefox browser? I have just seen a popup saying I am not and that I should click on the popup to upgrade.

    As above

Hello, from your system details I can see that you are using the latest version of Firefox (24).
Here is how to check it: '''Firefox menu''' > '''Help''' > '''About Firefox''' or visit this link [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox www.mozilla.org/firefox]
Can you give me more details about the popup?

Hello, iam using the latest version of firefox, whenever i login into my yahoo mail account i get a stop script error, the details of the error script is mentioned below , please suggest how to stop this
the website is www.mail.yahoo.com. i was getting the same STOP script error every now and then in firefox 6 as well

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • I am using the latest version of Firefox, but keep getting message to upgrade as wesite will not open as it thinkgs I am using an old version

I constantly get messages that say I am not using the latest version of Firefox & then do not display properly. I am using v3.6.3 & get this message on a lot of sites I visit.
Just noticed that in the guesses shown below -even this thinks I am using v2.0 Firefox version, which is not correct.

  • Why won't Youtube, Bandcamp, and even Firefox's own Feedback link, recognise that I am in fact using the latest version of Firefox?

I automatically update my Firefox, but certain websites resolutely claim I'm using an 'outdated browser', notably Youtube, Myspace, Bandcamp, and even (I've just discovered) Firefox's own Feedback link. Are they making an assumption based on the fact that I still use Windows XP, or is there something - a setting, maybe - that I can adjust? From the Troubleshooting Info I've pasted below, it looks like the 'User Agent' line is the problem; but what do I do about it?

Try resetting your user agent string.
Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter. Accept the warning message that appears, this will take you to a list of preferences.
In the search box at the top type '''general.useragent'''
Right-click on each entry that appears and select '''Reset''', this will set the value back to the default value. If it is already set to the default the reset option will be greyed out.
Restart Firefox and it should correctly identify your version of Firefox.

  • I'm using the latest version of firefox, but unable to print any downloads. I've tried using the print icon on the downloaded form and also control P

I've tried using the print icon on the downloaded form and also control P, but only get a blank page. I've even changed printers, but it didn't help. My print menu looks the same and I do not have trouble printing anything else, only with downloaded files.

If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • Hi Experts, Im using the latest version of Firefox. Fire fox is exposing my drives contents form file:///c:/

This is creating us very big problem. How to disable it. I made some changes in Browser.js file in past but its not working for latest versions.

I do not believe that the listing is accessible to someone running a server trying that trick. That works for the person using the computer where Firefox is installed (I just did that with Mac Firefox, giving it the path to a local directory, and it was listed), but someone remotely connected cannot tell Firefox to do that.

  • I tried to give feedback & I was told I was not using the latest version of Firefox. I upgraded, restarted my computer, then I got the same response. Therefore, I can't give feedback.

Here's my feedback: Make it easier to make Firefox your default browser. I shouldn't have to use a help menu to figure this out.

@sjpierce - I don't believe that this is a Firefox-specific issue, but it does sound like you have some sort of malware on your machine. What was this innocuous link that you clicked on? A lot of viruses and malware make their rounds on Facebook.
Regardless, what I would do is this ( I assume you're running Windows):
    * Download the Free and awesome Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) via [http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/]
    * Next update MSE and do a full system scan to ensure you don't have any existing malware on your machine. If so, clean it off and reboot. Keep doing this until you come up clean.
    * Refer to this article on SUMO [[Profiles|Profiles]]
    * Delete your old Firefox profile, create a new one and launch Firefox 4 again using the new profile
You should be back to normal at this point.
If you are running an OS like Mac OS X or Linux, it's unlikely that you have malware and you should probably clean your Firefox profile and start over again.

  • Unless my Firefox browser is actually up to date (version 8.0.1), on my start page appears the message that I'm not using the latest version of Firefox! Is this a bug or is my homepage hacked?

I'm using Windows XP on a PC and Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro.
In both cases, as my start page I use "http://www.google.be/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:nl:official"
Under the Googleframe stays the message "U gebruikt niet de nieuwste versie van Firefox. Upgrade vandaag om het beste uit het internet te halen!"
False: my Firefox is already up-to-date.

You are indeed up to date. Firefox stopped using that address as its default start page when 4.0 came out - the page you're using may be (wrongly) assuming that if you're looking at it, you must still be on Firefox 3.6.

  • I am having problems with small text size on AOL mail, and am using the latest version of Firefox.

I am having problems with text size when using AOL Mail. I am using version 25.0 of Firefox. I did not have this problem in the past, but I suspect a change occurred with one of the Firefox upgrades. I do not have the same problem when using Internet Explorer.

Could you start by resetting the zoom level on the page? To do that, you can either:
    * Press Ctrl+0 (that's a zero) on the keyboard
    * View menu > Zoom > Reset
You also can use zoom to increase/decrease the size from there. This article describes the various mouse, keyboard, and menu methods: [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages]].
    Any luck?

  • Using the latest version of Firefox and............

I'm getting an "Unsupported Browser" notification when trying to enter the Logic_Pro forum in Pro Apps. Something to the effect that "Jive" has detected IE6???
Jive is a perfect name for the forum software as of late. If you want to debate the meaning of "Jive" go listen to Nat Coles version of "Straighten Up and Fly Right" (or any version, but Nat's is cool) It will set you straight.

I shouldn't have to log in to see the most recent posts.
I have to now log in after (guessing) 20 - 60 minutes of inactivity (tabs open), sleep, or whatever. A new feature (??).
In general, the glitches are plentiful. I'm happy when I can (a) find a previous post and (b) post a reply.
