Downloading attachments in Safari

For about the last week, I can't download Word or PDF or .zip attachments in Gmail through Safari.  Nothing happens when I click on the Download arrow in an email attachment.   (The problem also exists in Firefox).
Safari Preferences are set to open attachments in Downloads.
Interestingly, I've also noticed that when I click on Gmail to log out, my Profile photo has disappeared.
Now this problem exists on my home computer, but there is no problem on my work computer using Google in Windows.  I am in Kazakhstan.
And further, my wife is having just the same problems, but she is in Leeds UK.  She too, can open such attachments if she uses Google via Windows on her work computers.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click:   Remove All Website Data
Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Why I can't download attachments from safari, why I can't download attachments from safari

I can't download attachments of office, from my e-mail

Is there anyway to keep the download in the page like in the past arrow stay in the right upper corner.
That's a good question. So, you would like to know if you can have the "Show Downloads" button, as illustrated above, always remain visible. I will answer the quesiton accordingly as this is how I understood it, correct me if I am wrong please.
The direct answer is no. There is a logic reason for this though.
If you clear your downloads from the list the icon disappears because there is no longer a list to view. The downloads however are not gone they are only absent from this list or log as it were. The downloaded files remain in your preferred  or default downloads folder, which ever one is set.
No point in viewing a blank list so no icon. However; the moment you download another file, it will re-appear.
On a further note, the list is limited to a certain number so don't expect to be able to see a list spanning every download you've ever made.
By the way, try to right click something from the list, some options to trigger the selection will appear. It would be nice if the available triggers would change depending on the type of file you are right clicking over.
If you move a downloaded file to the trash and follow-up by emptying the trash, Safari's downloads continues to show the trashed file because it does not know that the file was trashed, unless, as an exmaple you right click the said item from the list and choose "Show in Finder". The following message will appear.
In Safari's Help menu, type "Download". You will find some more good help topics for further inquiry.
    Cheers!

  • Why do I have to use safari to download attachments from my emails in mavericks?

I would like to download attachments from my email using a different internet browser. I like to use firefox but it seems if you recently upgraded to Mavericks. You may only download attachments with safari. Maybe firefox needs an update or apple really wants us to try the new safari (What I think) which is annoying to contantly learn new browsers because they have a new one released. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Firefox is working for me with Mavericks just as it was working with Mountain Lion. But I use POP mail and Thunderbird, not webmail.  So I cannot test what you are trying to do, download attachments.

  • I have been unable for the past few days to download attachments to E-mails on my Mac OS using Firefox

I have been able to download attachments to E-mails for years. However, for the last several days the download process which seems okay but the attachment doesn't show up on the screen and a note appears about a blank document. When I switch to Safari, the downloads work fine. Therefore, I assume that the problem is with Firefox.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • I have iCloud on MY PC and when I try to download attachments it is changing the file name to messagepart. What can i do to change this?

I have iCloud on MY PC and when I try to download attachments it is changing the file name to messagepart. What can i do to change this?

I don't think this is an iCloud issue- it is the latest release of Safari. Firefox attachments are still correctly downloaded.
This needs some interest from Apple techs.

  • Cannot download attachments.

I have a message saying the server connection failed when trying to download attachments from my emails on iPad. How can I fix this problem?

Have you tried quitting the mail app completely?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Launch mail again and see if you can open the attachment.
Have you gone to your webmail account using Safari to see if you can open the attachment that way? .... just to rule out an issue with the attachment itself. The message you are getting in the mail app would seem to indicate that is not the problem but it's one more thing to try to rule out as the problem.

  • Can I make firefox download attachments automatically

I have users I am trying to switch from Chrome and Safari to Firefox and the complaint right now is to just download attachments automatically so the popup does not ask every time what to do with certain files. even when you check the box do this every time it still reappears when downloading attachments specifically testing from gmail HELP please

When you place the mouse over a picture, right click, and select '''Save As,'''
you should be presented with a file menu. From here, you can select how,
    where, file name and format.

  • Quicklook downloads attachments to wrong folder

Tried searching for this but came up empty so I want to try and see if others are wondering why Quicklook in Mail downloads the attachment to a folder different from the one I specified as my Downloads folder, in my case, my Desktop Folder.
I receive an email with an attachment. I use Quicklook (be it the button on the header, pressing the spacebar, or using the contextual menu) to view the file at which time Mail first downloads the attachment. However, it always downloads it to the User/Library/Mail Downloads folder instead of the Downloads folder I selected in Preferences.
Does anyone else have this "problem?" If so, is there a setting for this I am not seeing? I hope it can be changed because I habitually use Quicklook now and that Mail Downloads folder can fill up rather quickly without realizing as I download attachments to specific places after the fact, causing double copies on my hard drive. Hope someone can help.

Andew, thanks for the reply, however, I am with "gumsie" on this one. Like gumsie stated, if I save the attachment using the button in the header or contextual menu, and open the file from there, then there is no real problem. However, if I Open or Quicklook the attachment directly in the Message Window, then Mail does save a copy of the attachment to the /Library/Mail Downloads folder no matter if I saved the attachment before or if I have a Downloads folder set in Preferences. This is what I think is an odd bit of behavior from the software.
In the end, I think there is really nothing we can do about this and the best thing for me to do is just download the attachment to my set Downloads folder, and Open/Quicklook it from there in order to avoid multiple copies on my drive (I deal with largish files so cumulatively multiple copies just take up too much space on the drive). It's too bad Apple hasn't addressed this.
Thank you both for your input. At least now I know that A) I'm not alone in this and B) I just have to change my habits.

  • Unable to download attachments via EAS on Note 3.

    Hi folks.
I'm having a problem with attachments on an Exchange ActiveSync account. It seems that if the account is configured to NOT download attachments automatically when connected to WiFi (or you are not connected to WiFi, but only cellular data), then it is impossible to download the attachment manually.
The attachments show up in the email, but clicking "Preview" or "Download" both result in the same error: "Unable to communicate with server".
I am a software developer, and VERY familiar with the EAS protocol. I've sniffed the traffic between the server and device both during the failed, manual download attempt and an automatically triggered download attempt. The response from the server to the client is IDENTICAL. The request is slightly different (for those playing along, the RANGE value is omitted for the automatic request, but present for the explicit request). The response is propertly formatted and correct data in both cases, but the device does not like something about the explicit request. This is regardless of attachment size or content. This works flawlessly on other devices, including stock AOSP 4.3 rom on a Galaxy Nexus device. I'm thinking this is a bug in Samsung's Email apk?
Does anybody have any ideas, any other contacts?

        Hi mrubinsk,
Downloading attachments is very important! I understand that you are very familiar with EAS and have already done some troubleshooting in an effort to resolve the issue. I have in the past have similar issues and learned that sometimes the most basic step is the one that ultimately resolve my concerns. Have you deleted and readd your EAS account on your phone yet? If not, please give it a try. Remove account, power cycle your device and set up your account again and test. Keep us posted.

  • Thunderbird running under Win 8.1 with Defender does not download attachments and offline content.

Thunderbird on Win 8.1 with Windows Defender is not downloading attachments from my roadrunner email account. It does so when running under Ubuntu 12.04 though. On Windows no attachments are shown. Also on Windows there is content that is not shown, I know so as there is an empty box. Then there is no option to download offline content. How may I use Thunderbird to read my email if it won't display properly? I trust the source of these emails as they are from the legal department of my former employer. I asking for the content to be resent does not work either. Please help me.

  • Mail refuses to download attachments to where I want them.

Although I've set Mail to download attachments to my desktop, it refuses to do this and downloads them into a thing called "Mail Downloads" in my Library folder.
What am I doing wrong here?

    Thomas:
Can you please provide guidance on where the Mail Downloads folder is actually located?  I'm now running Mail (v 5.3) on a new MBA under Lion 10.7.4 - but am totally unable to find that folder.
    Thanks

  • I didn't set any password during setup of Lion, but now when I want to download stuff from safari, it asks me for password? plz help

I bought a new macbook air pre loaded with Lion. while setting up the system, I just input the user name, and didn't set any password.
But now when I wanna download stuff off safari, it asks me for password. The user name appears (the same one which I set) but it keeps on asking me the password which I never set. Can some one please help me. Thanks!

I did it like that, but for the purpose of not having to type my password every time since I'm installing a lot of programs, and yes, it asks for the password, but do not type anything and just click "ok" or "install", since you haven't set a password it should let you go through. I guess it asks for the "password" just to let you know it will install something, but just click ok.
I will set up a password once i have install everything in System Preferences/Users & Groups
    Hope it helps...

  • I am having trouble downloading attachments from email

I have an iPad 2 that has been upgraded to IOS 7.0.4. This was a problem before the update - which is the reason for the update but that's another story.
So for now, iPad 2 IOS 7.0.4 16GB wifi/cell model
I am having trouble downloading attachments. Not all. but some. a movie in particular and some documents.
I would thingk it was the email account but I can open it on my iPhone without issue.
I would've thought the link was bad but I forwarded it one of my other email accounts and it opens fine.
I have restarted, rebooted, deleated the mail account and reloaded it.
Still nothing. I have tried to save the video by clicking the "Save Video" icon when you tap and hold the video but it never saves.
Sometimes it will act like it is going to save because I get a black screen and a rotating flower in the middle of the screen and it says "Loading" but it never does anything. Other times it will just give me a message that says "Can't download attachement".
    Any one have any thoughts?
