Downloading attachments is garbled

I am trying to download an attachment from Microsoft Exchange OWA webpage and it used to convert the name of the .ZIP from the Subject line (e.g. subjectname.zip). However, since FF29, Japanese characters in the subject will show up garbled in the filename (e.g. when you have "ト" in the Subject, the filename returns as %e3%83%88.zip, instead of ト.zip). IE and Chrome work fine.

So I log into iCloud and try to see how these attachments show up. They seem to be there since I see this:
but when I try and download the files, they appear in my download folder as 0 byte files, ending in .pdf.html.
This is very annoying. I saw and could read these files yesterday, but cannot today.

• Quicklook downloads attachments to wrong folder

Tried searching for this but came up empty so I want to try and see if others are wondering why Quicklook in Mail downloads the attachment to a folder different from the one I specified as my Downloads folder, in my case, my Desktop Folder.
I receive an email with an attachment. I use Quicklook (be it the button on the header, pressing the spacebar, or using the contextual menu) to view the file at which time Mail first downloads the attachment. However, it always downloads it to the User/Library/Mail Downloads folder instead of the Downloads folder I selected in Preferences.
Does anyone else have this "problem?" If so, is there a setting for this I am not seeing? I hope it can be changed because I habitually use Quicklook now and that Mail Downloads folder can fill up rather quickly without realizing as I download attachments to specific places after the fact, causing double copies on my hard drive. Hope someone can help.

Andew, thanks for the reply, however, I am with "gumsie" on this one. Like gumsie stated, if I save the attachment using the button in the header or contextual menu, and open the file from there, then there is no real problem. However, if I Open or Quicklook the attachment directly in the Message Window, then Mail does save a copy of the attachment to the /Library/Mail Downloads folder no matter if I saved the attachment before or if I have a Downloads folder set in Preferences. This is what I think is an odd bit of behavior from the software.
In the end, I think there is really nothing we can do about this and the best thing for me to do is just download the attachment to my set Downloads folder, and Open/Quicklook it from there in order to avoid multiple copies on my drive (I deal with largish files so cumulatively multiple copies just take up too much space on the drive). It's too bad Apple hasn't addressed this.
Thank you both for your input. At least now I know that A) I'm not alone in this and B) I just have to change my habits.

• Unable to download attachments via EAS on Note 3.

Hi folks.
I'm having a problem with attachments on an Exchange ActiveSync account. It seems that if the account is configured to NOT download attachments automatically when connected to WiFi (or you are not connected to WiFi, but only cellular data), then it is impossible to download the attachment manually.
The attachments show up in the email, but clicking "Preview" or "Download" both result in the same error: "Unable to communicate with server".
I am a software developer, and VERY familiar with the EAS protocol. I've sniffed the traffic between the server and device both during the failed, manual download attempt and an automatically triggered download attempt. The response from the server to the client is IDENTICAL. The request is slightly different (for those playing along, the RANGE value is omitted for the automatic request, but present for the explicit request). The response is propertly formatted and correct data in both cases, but the device does not like something about the explicit request. This is regardless of attachment size or content. This works flawlessly on other devices, including stock AOSP 4.3 rom on a Galaxy Nexus device. I'm thinking this is a bug in Samsung's Email apk?
Does anybody have any ideas, any other contacts?

Hi mrubinsk,
Downloading attachments is very important! I understand that you are very familiar with EAS and have already done some troubleshooting in an effort to resolve the issue. I have in the past have similar issues and learned that sometimes the most basic step is the one that ultimately resolve my concerns. Have you deleted and readd your EAS account on your phone yet? If not, please give it a try. Remove account, power cycle your device and set up your account again and test. Keep us posted.

• Thunderbird running under Win 8.1 with Defender does not download attachments and offline content.

Thunderbird on Win 8.1 with Windows Defender is not downloading attachments from my roadrunner email account. It does so when running under Ubuntu 12.04 though. On Windows no attachments are shown. Also on Windows there is content that is not shown, I know so as there is an empty box. Then there is no option to download offline content. How may I use Thunderbird to read my email if it won't display properly? I trust the source of these emails as they are from the legal department of my former employer. I asking for the content to be resent does not work either. Please help me.

• Mail refuses to download attachments to where I want them.

Although I've set Mail to download attachments to my desktop, it refuses to do this and downloads them into a thing called "Mail Downloads" in my Library folder.
What am I doing wrong here?

Thomas:
Can you please provide guidance on where the Mail Downloads folder is actually located? I'm now running Mail (v 5.3) on a new MBA under Lion 10.7.4 - but am totally unable to find that folder.
Thanks

• I am having trouble downloading attachments from email

I have an iPad 2 that has been upgraded to IOS 7.0.4. This was a problem before the update - which is the reason for the update but that's another story.
So for now, iPad 2 IOS 7.0.4 16GB wifi/cell model
I am having trouble downloading attachments. Not all. but some. a movie in particular and some documents.
I would thingk it was the email account but I can open it on my iPhone without issue.
I would've thought the link was bad but I forwarded it one of my other email accounts and it opens fine.
I have restarted, rebooted, deleated the mail account and reloaded it.
Still nothing. I have tried to save the video by clicking the "Save Video" icon when you tap and hold the video but it never saves.
Sometimes it will act like it is going to save because I get a black screen and a rotating flower in the middle of the screen and it says "Loading" but it never does anything. Other times it will just give me a message that says "Can't download attachement".
Any one have any thoughts?

What is your connection via speedtest.net ?
Check istumbler or netstumbler to verify network interference
Make sure DNS is set correctly (settings - general - network - configure DNS - automatic)

• Since the update to 7.0.1 I am unable to open download updates to IE 8. Nor can I download a fresh version of AOL 9.0vr or download attachments from web beased e-mails. Is there a problem with Firefox, please?

I have several problems.
1. I cannot download attachments from web based e-mail accounts (AOL & Tesco.Net) without Firefox crashing and having to be restarted.
2. I can no longer start Internet Explorer 8
3. I can't download a new version of IE 8 or AOL 9.0VR. The .exe files download and run but the remainder of the download and installation process does not happen.

• How do I download attachments to an external drive

How do I download attachments to an external drive

Pam,
I assume your are talking about the Mac's Mail app. You can set the destination for saving attachments as follows:
In Mail's menu select Mail > Preferences.
In the Preferences window select the General Tab.
Find the Downloads folder setting then click on it and select "Other."
Now you can select the destination from the pop-up.
Now when an email has attachments you can click on the Save button and a copy of the attachments will go to that location.

• I have been unable for the past few days to download attachments to E-mails on my Mac OS using Firefox

I have been able to download attachments to E-mails for years. However, for the last several days the download process which seems okay but the attachment doesn't show up on the screen and a note appears about a blank document. When I switch to Safari, the downloads work fine. Therefore, I assume that the problem is with Firefox.

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you.

• Can not download attachments in gmail

I'm having problems downloading attachments in gmail. Any ideas?

I'll be honest, give up. As many of us have found, Gmail on iPads is truly not compatible. Nor is Yahoo for that fact. Apple wants you to use their Apple Mail.
I have a new iPad 3 and testing it against an Android tablet. I have no issues on an Android tablet. My issue is attaching things in Gmail. For instance, only the pics folders will open, but only pic folders contained in iPhoto or those I've taken with the iPad. I've got other files stored on my iPad with pics, and don't get the option to attach anything in them.

I get this with all the attachments, though! Have a look at at the attached picture...

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

I have iCloud on MY PC and when I try to download attachments it is changing the file name to messagepart. What can i do to change this?

I don't think this is an iCloud issue- it is the latest release of Safari. Firefox attachments are still correctly downloaded.
This needs some interest from Apple techs.
