Downloading audio files (.wav)

Hi All,
I have posted this question under safari and iMovie(HD) and I know this is a pro vid discussion board but I think this deals less with iMovie than a generic audio download issue for use in a video application (although instructions on how to use in imovieHD would also be appreciated)...
I am running 10.4.10 with iMovie HD. I am trying to put together my first movie and I want to use some popular soundbites from t.v. and movies. I have found a couple of great sites that have what I want in a .wav format. I cannot seem to download these as all I seem to end up with are files which link directly to the website. I feel that there must be a way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
J

Since the rights are forfeited by the person uploading the video, YouTube is public domain and is downloadable at will. Naturally, some of the content may be copyrighted material that the user has warranted as his/her own so the end responsibility is the downloader's and he/she may be liable if publishing the content. A note: even copyrighted material may be used by a non-profit without prejudice - but, think before you use... if it is used on a site where advertising has been sold to benefit the non-profit (or even a list of donating companies exists on the site), the content could be thought of as benefitting a for-profit agency and therefore would become an illegal use of the material.
There are several sources for public domain soundbites online and some of them filter the content, but most rely on users' honesty.
As stated in a previous reply, if you are unsure, contact the producing entity to either purchase rights or recieve permission to use.
For legal downloading of public domain .wav files it is a simple enough proposition to purchase a widely available appropriate program.

  • How can I use iWeb to create website that contains a lot of downloadable audio files?

    Hi
How to use iWeb to create a website that contains a downloadable audio files.  I'm uloading about 15 GB of audio files.  I need to creat folders "albums" and then put the files in these folders.   Any advise?
Thank you very much for your time to this
    W B

The important thing is not to put the audio files directly into iWeb: if you do that then every time iWeb decides it needs to upload the entire site you will find yourself uploading all 15GB of audio files, which won't make you happy. Start by uploading the files to the server - in folders as suits you - and then link to them in iWeb.
If you want them to download rather than play, you may be able to set up an .'htaccess' file in the folder which will force a download - it depends on whether your hosting service will allow this. The method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/missing/download.html
Here is an example of a simple link which produces a download (without the process described the audio file would play in the browser in a blank page):
    http://rfwilmut.net/stars/dawson2.mp3
Then all you need to do is to provide a link, designed however suits you, in your iWeb page. If your server won't allow the .htaccess file then you will have to ask visitors to control-click (Mac) or right-click (Windows) on the link and choose 'Download linked file' or equivalent - not so convenient; or otherwise zip the files first, which won't much reduce their size but will force a download (and of course the recipients will have to unzip them).
If you want the files to play in a player in the page, you can use an html snippet to provide a player as described in this page (you will also need to upload a script to the webspace - this is provided in the page):

My computer is authorized, but when I try to open a recently downloaded audio file I get asked for my "Audible username and password"  and my AppleID and password do not work.

thats because audible isnt apple provided, its a third party app/website so you'll have to get it from them

  • Can't download audio files

My ability to download audio files has quit working.  The ones I was in the habit of downloading was my voicemail messages and podcasts.  I checked to see if my media card had plenty of memory, Check.  I increased the reserved memory for media files 5mb to 15.  But still no downloads.  When I try to download the download graph quickly flashes up and then disappears.  No messages as to why it won't work.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Colleen

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Try this: pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart and see if that doesn't help. Clears out the memory and refreshes the BB; like rebooting your pc.
When you have anomalous behavior in your BB a battery pull often helps.
Let us know how it goes.

  • How do I download audio files

How do I download audio files? I downloaded an app that has audio but was told I needed to come to ITunes first to download audio files! Help!

Does the app not have a link to the developer's site (with a manual/guide) on its description page in the store ? I assume that it means that you need to connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and use the file sharing section on your computer's iTunes to copy content into it : file sharing.

  • Is there a way to import an audio file (WAV) with markers?

I used a TASCAM DR-100-MK2 audio recorder to record conference presentations. The TASCAM has a function button which can be used to create markers in the audio file. I used this "marker" button to create a marker every time the presenter changed the PowerPoint/Keynote slides. I was hoping I could import the WAV file into FCPX and see the markers, and then drop each slide at the markers (after converting the slides into JPG files). However, I am not able to see the markers on the audio file. Is this something I can do in FCPX? If so, what do I need to do in order to see the markers?
A quick response is greatly apprecaited because I´m on a deadline. Thanks.

    Tom,
Thanks for quick response. When I play the WAV file in QT player, I don´t see anything but the "start/stop" button, the "fast forward", "fast backward" and volume control. Shoule I see anything else?

  • Itunes store downloads audio files in QuickTime format & no convert options

My wife's XP computer received audio files from ITunes store in Quick Time format. Can find no help in so-called "Help" files, right-click on downloaded song offer only "Convert to AAC". I've used Real Player to convert QT files to MP3 but this seems overly complicated. Any ideas?

Looks like I just had to change my preferences 3 or 4 times, and it finally shows the option to convert to MP3. I'll see how successful it is in converting while downloading. Thanks for the suggestions.
Also please note that if you are looking for MP3 files, it is easier to buy directly in MP3 format from an online music retailer who sells in MP3 format, such as the amazon.com MP3 download store.
MP3 format is compatible with iTunes/iPod and virtually every other player, program, and device.

  • Downloading audio file from website

I'm trying to download an audio file (mp-3) from a website to save it and possibly burn it to CD, but I'm not having any luck. There is no download link or anything that comes up. Is it possible it cannot be downloaded? How do I tell if it is blocked somehow?

    hi,
    >>>>I search forum and one solution is to create a BPM started by batch job with dummy message which will pick up file from the website by java proxy. I would like to avoid BPM and dummy message from SAP system.
you can also do it like this:
start a BPM with a dummy message - this BPM will only start an
async java proxy that will fetch the file and post it to XI (with no BPM - just to
    a java proxy server)
this way you will only use a BPM to call fetching the file
but it will not process it anymore
what you need to consider it the use of application acknowledgments
(so you will know that the proxy worked)
also the configuration for the proxy call (http dest etc)
will have to be stored somewhere (web interface to configure)

  • Download audio file

I've tried to download an audio file from a web site but without success. I can see 'copy image' and 'copy' but I don't get any file downloaded. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

Thanks, I'm on holiday with just my phone! I got a friend to download the file and email it to me - that works!
I wonder where the pop-up menu comes from and what it does.

  • Can't download audio file with Safari

Using Garage Band I recorded some audio and music (think podcast). I converted it to MP3 in iTunes and then uploaded it to my ISP. When you click on the file all you see is binary code, no audio file.
This only happens in Safari. It's fine when I use FireFox (same computer). It also works with Internet Explorer on a Window's XP machine.
Using latest Safari and OS X.
Any ideas about the Safari problem?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Can you tell us the link to the file in question? From your description it sounds like the ISPs webserver might not be identifying the MIME type correctly. Some browsers can be more forgiving when this information is wrong/missing but Safari tends to be more strict.

Yeah, you haven't seen that parameter? It's one of many. The available adjustments are:

  • Exporting project as audio file (wav)?

This may sound like a stupid question but i'm new to logic. I'm trying to export the project as an audio wav file to post on the net but am a little confused how its done. The project contains apple loops - can these be exported with the rest of the project?
    Thanks

    Look up "Bounce"...
This will create a stereo mix of your song, in any format you choose, be it .wav, AIFF, AAC,, mp3, etc...

  • What is the best way to download audio files?

I am building a website for a church.  How do I put the weekly audio sermons on the site, so that the files don't take forever to download?
I had a link with quicktime, but someone said they didn't have that plug-in, so I have embedded the files.
...what is the most popular and fast way for people to hear the sermons?
I have split up the pages.
I was hoping for one like, https://crosspointelpaso.ctsmemberconnect.net/sermon-ctrl.do?view=0&grpId=26073
This is where I am now...http://www.estevanfaithlutheran.com/listentosermonsonline.html
    Thank you.
    Em

The site that you referenced is using mp3 for the sermon audios...  if you look at the code for one of the links it is this:
    <a href="https://f1.ctsmemberconnect.net/garoupdb/O-0000000937/G-0000026073/audio/Sep 21 2008.mp3" title="" target="_blank">What Is God Looking At?</a>
It then depends on what the client machine uses to run mp3s as to how they open, automaticallly or the viewer is asked whether they want to open the file using their mp3 player.  Probably more widespread than using quicktime.

  • Downloading audio files

I have an Olympus digital voice recorder that records in WMA (Windows Media Audio) which is compatible with MP3. The packaging for the recorder indicates that it is MAC compatible. The recorder can be plugged into the USB port to download the recorded files. I am working on some oral history stories and want to be able to edit the audio using Garage Band. So far I have been unable to move the files from the recorder into Garage Band. I have tried dragging the files into the Garage Band new project window without success. Any suggestions?

(Windows Media Audio) which is compatible with MP3.
this is incorrect, wma and mp3 are completely separate file formats, the former is not supported on the mac without third part software, the latter is.
I have tried dragging the files into the Garage Band new project window without success.
    if they actually ARE mp3s:

  • Audio File (Wav) Filtering

    Hi.
I am looking for a way to filter the white noise from a wav file.
There is one input for the wav file, then i added a white noise for it, and i have added a play waveform to the filtered wav file. I have changed the filter settings many times but it is still noisy. Please help me, im noob in labview. :/
    Thanks.

First, the concept you expressed in the original post appears to be flawed.
Since white noise is uniformly distributed across the spectrum, a filter will not remove it from a signal.  A filter will only reduce the amplitude in the stop band of the filter.
Second, I looked at the spectrum of your audio signal without added noise.  From about 200 Hz to 16 kHz the signal drops about 60-70 dB. In any small segment of the spectrum the local peaks are 20-30 dB above the background.  There is a series of harmonically related peaks spaced 120 Hz and several other peaks without clealry obvious harmonic relationships.  A complicated signal like this is much more difficult to denoise than a well defined signal like a sine or square wave.
The amplitude of your signal peaks at about 0.5 and the average is probably about 0.2-0.3 while your noise has an amplitude of about 3-4. Extracting a signal with a -30 dB signal to noise ratio is moderately difficult if the signal is sinusoidal.  If the decoder does not have access to the original, complicated, signal, it will be nearly impossible to recover it.
