Downloading backed up libary into new PC -- when I also have new Nano

My 2nd generation iPod died a few months ago. Then two weeks ago, the hard drive on my PC began to die. I quickly backed up my entire iTunes library before replacing the hard drive. Then for my birthday, I got a 3G Nano.
I just installed the latest version of iTunes on my new hard drive.
Will the combination of new hard drive, new iTunes and new Nano make it impossible to download my backed library of music? I'm worried that my libary of purchased music won't be recognized.
What should I do first -- download my iTunes library before configuring my new Nano? Or should I do something else?
Help.
Thanks.

Hello Isiahjammal,
So after a backup your iPhone was acting like it was restored and now your PC won't even see it?
Please go through this article for steps to take for that.

Of course step through it in order.

  • HT1399 I just downloaded the newest version of itunes, and when I connect my ipod nano (3rd gen), I can no longer see my playlists (on the left hand side). I hate the new format...any way to revert back to the old one?

I just downloaded the newest versionof itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod, I can no longer see my playlists (listed on the left hand side). The new format is very confusing! How do I drag and drop songs into specific playlists I have?  Is there a way to revert back to the old itunes?

I had the same question. Someone answered perfectly here post https://discussions.apple.com/message/20575126#20575126
The answer was click View > Show sidebar. Devices and playlists will display in the left sidebar once again.

  • Move backed up music into new itunes

I backed up my itunes to an external hard drive when computer crashed, but cant figure out how to move into itunes all at once.  I can only do it one by one.

My situation may be different from yours since all mu music is ripped from cd's not bought from iTunes, but I would think the premise is the same.
Doesn't matter what is in your library.
When I moved computers I literally dragged and dropped the music where I wanted it to be. THen when I opened iTunes I imported the files back into iTUnes
This creates a new library with all the same items but you lose a lot of info: Ratings, comments, date added, custom EQ, playlists, etc.
If you simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder, it is the exact same library, not a new library. No info is lost.

  • Sites want me to download newest version of Adobe Flash Player when I already have it

I am having difficulty when at a site that I want to watch a video on (most recently a work site) and I am told I need to update Adobe Flash Player. I double check andI Have the same version I am being insructed to download. I tried going to Security under System Prefences and under Apps allowing from anywhere in case that was the problem. Still, I cannot watch the video. Any ideas of the problem?  I was just watching videos from this same work site without this coming up. I have also had it come up on other sites (less trusted than this site) and could not watch the video because of the same reason. Ihave AdobeFlashPlayer set to automatically update.

Assuming Allan's advice is not correct, and you do run the installer, I think I've heard of that problem and it involves removing the old Flash plug-ins, then install the new version. I don't use it so I don't know what they are called, but will be the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder.
You can go here and enable HTML5 in YouTube so you don't have to use Flash: http://www.youtube.com/html5
Most(?) of the content is HTML5, but you may run into videos where you still need Flash.

  • Trying to update Firefox: download latest version, follow directions to install, when restart still have old version

Trying to update Firefox from 3.6.22 to 6.0.2
I download latest version, follow directions to install (move to app folder, drag to dock) but the old version in the dock is what opens.
So I removed old version from dock, put new version in, and restarted computer for good measure.
But when I restart still have old version...
How do I get the newest version of Firefox to be the one my computer uses?
Have tried to download and install several times over several months without success...

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • 4 hours into new nano - Photos disappeared...

4 hours after giving my wife her nano, the photos loaded in the iPod nano disappeared. The photo folder listing is still there, just not the photos themselves. The music play lists and the music are still there. The photo thumbnails or thumbnail database may have gotten corrupted/zapped. I will check the system when I can re-connect it to the computer tonight. Probably have to re-sync the photos and check for software updates to see if there is a fix. Hate to think it may be defective. Anyone else run into this?

Got the nano home and plugged in to investigate missing photos. iPod locked up tighter than a drum. Put the computer to sleep to try and get around stuck message 'Do Not Disconnect.' Nano would still not respond. Tried to power it off and would not recognize any button input or return to normal iPod mode. Finally went digging for the reset command that was on the packaging that the iPod was delivered in. Pressed the reset sequence of buttons - 'Menu' + Center Button. iPod reset and was able to browse all photos and music normally.
Have to keep an eye on the lockups to see if it was just a fluke.

  • I have downloaded the update for lightroom 4 on Vista i also have ADOBE 10 however all of the preset

ALLL OF THE PRESETS THAT I HAVE BOUGHT WILL NOT PULL OVER?  EVERYTIME I TRY TO REINSTALL MY PRESETS THEY TRY TO PULL INTO ADOBE 10.  THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM HOW CAN I FIX THIS I HAD OVER 100 PRESETS AND BRUSH THAT I HAD BOUGHT..

I'm not quite clear what you are saying since "Adobe 10" is not an accurate program name. If you are trying to use Elements 10 presets in LR, this won't work. They are completely different programs.

  • Download old iPod touch date into new iPod touch through iTunes

How do you download old iPod data into new a new iPod?

Simply connect the new iPod to the same computer that was used to sync the old iPod.  iTunes will know the difference and will assign a unique name (which you can change if you wish).

Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes has no affect on the media on the computer or the account it is linked to.
If the media was purchased under another iTunes account, then it is permanently tied to that account.

  • Is there any way to sort my songs normally on the new nano?

I want to sort my songs by Artist, like this:

But instead, when I press Artists (and also other stuff) on my nano, it always shows it like this:

Is there any way to fix this?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.
btw I've found a workaround - to create a playlist with the order that I want, but it's harder to scroll through long playlists and it requires more actions every time I add a song, so please don't tell me to create a playlist.

I'm wondering if some of the playlist bugs from the Nano 5G have made their way into the 6G. One bug in particular is this: Create a smart playlist in iTunes and set it to sort any way you want (e.g., by artist). That sort order should be synced to the iPod. If you change it in iTunes and resync, the sort order on the Nano should reflect the sort order in iTunes. On the Nano 3G and my iPod classic, it is. On my Nano 5G, it is not. This is a known bug. It's actually a bit worse than that. The order on the 5G seems to always be by artist with a few "odd" songs thrown into the beginning of the playlist. If you always shuffle, it's not a big deal. I never shuffle.
I have been holding back on buying the new Nano until I can determine whether this and other playlist bugs have been fixed.

  • I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song!! The problem is both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing the files in the trash or not

Hi. I'm in a situation here and would really welcome some guidance. I dragged my ext. HD iTunes backed up folder into my new mac. Now there are duplicates of every song. Both versions seem to actually BE there when I check the info. So, I moved what I thought were duplicates into the trash from iTunes, and resigned myself to the fact that I would have to do this manually for each album. I did this with about 10 albums. I emptied the trash and lost them even though they still LOOKED like they were in iTunes. I repeated the process tonight on a bunch of other albums not realizing yet that I had screwed up terribly the first time. This time I saw what had happened and pulled the files out of the trash, onto my desktop and dragged them back into iTunes, then deleted the duplicate files that had exclamation points next to them. Now I have no idea if iTunes is playing duplicate files from the trash or not, and am nervous about emptying the trash. Anyone dealt with this before? Thank you
