Downloading digital video from camcorder using USB

I know this is not really a new topic, but I am new to all this and can't figure out how to post to an existing topic which addresses it. I found a posting which says I can download digital video by opening "Image Capture" and under preferences telling what I want done when a USB camcorder is connected. I find that preferences does not specifically ask about USB, but does ask, when a camcorder is connected, if I want to open Image Capture, IPhoto, or no application. I selected Image Capture, connected the camcorder through a USB port, set the camcorder to play/edit, and got nothing, no acknowledgement that the computer recognizes the presence of the camcorder. Now what?

Well, I tried Firewire, which I thought myself would solve the problem. Bought a new Firewire cable because I have never had one. Plugged the 4-pin into my camcorder, and the 6-pin into a Firewire port on my eMac. Turned the camcorder on to Play/edit, which is the playback setting. No indication on the computer that the camcorder is connected. Tried Image Capture, iPhoto, iDVD, and iMovie. None of them gave me anything. I suppose there is a slim possibility that the cable is defective, but I don't have any other Firewire peripherals, so I don't know how to check it. Any suggestions on that or any other way to troubleshoot? I also tried playback of a video in the camcorder. It plays fine internally, but still no response from the computer.

Major backup time regarding your "capture", "USB connection", "no firewire for camcorder".......
Let us start again. Your question was interpreted as one concerning DV data capture into Premiere Elements capture window (requires a firewire connection).
I just dug into the user guide for your camera...instead of a miniDV camcorder, I find a camera that records DVD-VIDEO to a DVD disc. Is that your camera's description? That puts a different complexion to the matter. Please confirm that you are recording to a DVD-VIDEO standard to widescreen on a DVD disc. If not that, then please explain with more details.
If you camera is recording as I now believe, you do not need a firewire or USB connection.
    1. Place the finalized DVD disc in the DVD burner tray of your computer.
    2. If you are working with Premiere Elements 12 Windows, then set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen (or the PAL counterpart, depending on your computer setup), and then, in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12, Add Media/"DVD camera or computer drive", Video Importer.
This process copies (rips) video files (VOBs) of the DVD-VIDEO and allows you to put these video files on the program's Timeline for edits and export.
Please let us know if we are now in sync on what you are seeking.
    Thanks.

  • I use an iMac 10.6.8 with iPhoto '09 to download digital images from Canon DSLRs. Until the last two weeks there has been no trouble whatever importing images by  a USB connection from either camera to the Mac. Now the process will not kick in. Any ideas?

I use an Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 09 to download digital images from two Canon DSLRs. Until the last week, there has been no problem whatever in launching the import procedure once the USB connection has been connected and the camera switched on. Now the process will not kick in at all for either camera.  I can't find a solution through iPhoto help or from other sources.
Any ideas to fix?  (I admit I have not tested the USB cable at this time).

    What does "kick in" mean?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • Can I use imovie to download a video from youtube and then copy it to a dvd?

I need to download a video from youtube for church on Sunday and wondered if I can do it using the imovie app? If not, does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks!

just drag 'n drop your jpg and your mp3 into the timeline of your Project - done.
Depending on what version of iM you're using, you can directly upload from within iMovie, or you have to export first, then use YT's upload web interface ...
in case you own a licence of Quicktime Pro,  open a jpg with it, open in a 2nd window your mp3, select all, copy, paste to picture - done .. no 'fullsize editor' needed.

  • Way to use Live video (from camcorder) as a background?

    Hello.
I was wondering if there's any way to use live video (from camcorder) as a background using Keynote.
I am trying to add caption/subtitle on live video to projector.

I haven't tried this myself recently (the last time I tried it, the delay was frozen to no less than 3 seconds), but a user in this thread said he got the delay down to .1 seconds by using QuickTime Broadcaster and altering the .sdp file.
This technique uses Broadcaster to make your computer stream to itself and use the stream file in Keynote.

  • I have iTunes and am downloading Music videos from YouTube for use on my iPad! They play great on my iPad, But when I play them on my PC in iTunes they skip like a rapid fire machine gun??? Can anybody help me

I have iTunes and I am downloading Music Videos from YouYube to be used on my iPad! After I download them using YTD Video downloader they play great on my iPad... However when I try to play them on my PC in iTunes they skip like a rapid fire Machine Gun! Can anybody help???

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device.  If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

  • Transfer digital video to iMacG5 using 10.4.3

I recently purchased a Panasomic PV-GS65 digital video camcorder. I use operating system OS X 10.4 on an iMacG5. I am trying to transfer my digital video from the miniDV to my computer using the USB connection cable provided by Panasonic, and I cannot get the computer to recognize the input. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Please help.

strangedogs is quite right, Leonard. You definitely need a firewire cable, I'm afraid.
I have an almost identical camera (the GS75). USB is only for stills with this one. It always amazes me when they don't include a cable that is critical to function, but do include others which are less important! In my case I fortunately found that a 4 to 6 pin cable that actually came with my old iMac G3 DV+ was fine for the purpose (all my other FW cables are 6 pin to 6 pin - you need 4 pin for the camera end).
Plug the cable in, set the mode dial on the camera to movie playback , fire up iMovie , and away you go.
    Cheers
    Rod

how can I download a video from the net? is there is any special download softwear than realplayer?

There are a variety of file formats for storing and sending video. You will probably want to install VLC, which handles most open formats. RealPlayer is used on their proprietary format.

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.

  • How to download Halloween videos from YouTube?

    <By Jenny>
It is that time of year again, the exciting Halloween! Since activities in these days are wonderful, unforgettable, impressive, crazy, and fantastic, lots of them are recorded in the form of videos and uploaded to YouTube for sharing with all the people worldwide. Do you fall in love with some interesting, meaningful and unique video files about Halloween, and want to download them as your own collections so as to enjoy them in the leisure time? If so, this thread will definitely do you a favor, for it will instruct you how to download Halloween videos from YouTube in detail.
The software we will use here is Pavtube [YouTube Converter|http://www.pavtube.com/youtube-converter/], which is free for downloading, if you want to convert the downloaded FLV YouTube Halloween videos to other formats, you should use its retail version, if not, there will be watermarks of Pavtube stamped in the output files.
    Okay, now let’s begin.
    1. Download Pavtube [YouTube Converter|http://www.pavtube.com/youtube-converter/], install and run it.
    2. Add URL, select output format
After launching, press “Add URL” in the main interface of this program, and then the following interface will pop up. Copy and paste URL of the Halloween videos which you want to download from YouTube into the textbox after “URL”. If you only want to use its downloading function totally for free, you should check “Only Download FLV source file”, and uncheck “Keep FLV source file”, on the contrary, if you want to convert it to other format while downloading as well as keeping the FLV source file, you should tick the checkbox of “Keep FLV source file” in advance.
Imagine you’d like to do downloading and converting work simultaneously, in that case, you should click on the drop-down list of “Convert to” to select an output format, here I choose “iPhone MPEG-4 640X480(*.MP4)” as an example.
Also, there are two more optional steps, namely, specify output file name and save path. Factually, this program will generate a file name and destination folder by default automatically, if you don’t like using these ones, you can type your preferred file name into the textbox after “Save as” and click on the ellipsis icon at the opposite side of “Save to” to specify a path to store the output files.
    3. Custom
This program allows users adjusting video and audio parameters like codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, etc. You can configure all of these items according to your own requirements. For instance, if you need change the output files to have a smaller size, and do not mind the output quality, you can adjust these parameters into smaller figures.
    4. Click “OK” to start downloading and converting
Once all the above settings are done, you can now click “OK” button to begin downloading and converting your favorite Halloween videos from YouTube at the same time. Pavtube [YouTube Converter|http://www.pavtube.com/youtube-converter/] will finish its tasks, even batch tasks at speed, and never let video and audio go in separate ways.
Well, just 4 simple steps, the downloading and converting work are completed, sincerely hope this guide is helpful for you to download or convert your beloved Halloween video files from YouTube.
By the way, I know an amused website specially designed for Halloween, it provides people with games and Halloween gifts, from which you can not only gain funs, but also get cute presents, [play this game here|http://www.pavtube.com/halloween/halloween.html], and happy Halloween.

  • Recently I am receiving "Blocked Plug In" message on my IMac whenever I try to download a video from You Tube. How can I unblock this?

I AM RECEIVING A MESSAGE  "BLOCKED PLUG IN"  WHENEVER I TRY TO DOWNLOAD A VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE OR WATCH A LIVE  BROADCAST.   WHAT DO I DO TO UNBLOCK  THE PLUG IN ?    (JERRY)

    Dolgoat,
Happy to assist you however please do not type in all caps, it's considered shouting and we can hear you just fine.
Are you still using 10.6.7, if not then please update your profile to let us know the verison of OS X installed.
You probably have a Safari plugin installed that may need to be  updated or if you are running a later version of OS X than SL then you could be affected by Gatekeeper.

I can see the video. I want to download it and save in my computer to see it again.
I have download helper. While the 3 red, blue, and yellow sphere are turning, It gives me the choice of place to save, and when I click and choose desktop , for example, this message comes ."Conversion requires an external application that appears to be missing on your system. Configure conversion ?
When I click on okay, another page comes, which says" converter and a box next to it . in the box is written FFMpeg. but I can change it to MEncoder. In another box, says configure conversion rules. When I click on it, nothing happen. Thanks for your help.
    == This happened ==

No, this reply is not helpful. It simply generates this little gem:
"This service requires the conversion feature to be enabled.
    Configure conversion ?"
And the same clicking on buttons that makes nothing happen and going around in circles with the escape key.
