Downloading email on Mail using IMAP

hi all.
this is a bit of a dumb question but i am hearing that my DOMAIN BASED EMAIL is filled up and folks are having emails sent to this address kicked back. i can access this via the host's website but i am also accessing via MAC MAIL.
is there a correct way to get this mail off the server so someone can send me an email and not have it kicked back?
also, am i correct in thinking that this email will go to /either/ my mac pro or to my mac book pro or will it still be available to both computers via IMAP? i mean, i MOVE email to a LOCAL FOLDER on my mac pro at the end of each year but this seems like it is a different issue that i am not understanding for some reason.
TIA

IMAP stores the email on the server. If you have reached your quota, you need to move it off the server to a local mailbox.
Once you move it off the server into a local mailbox, on any device, it will remove it from the server.
It sounds like you are doing that, but maybe you need to do it more often, or get a bigger quota.
If you right-click on the account in the Mailbox list, and choose Get account info, you can view how much you have used and where it is located.

  • Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP

Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP?  Having a problem syncing to our mail server: doesn't sync properly when multiple devices use same mail acct.  Spoken w/ mail hosting provider who says Apple Mail doesn't follow IMAP protocol properly leaving Apple Mail users to experience a variety of problems when connecting to IMAP accounts.  Among them:
    - Improper syncing
    - Proliferation of drafts during composition of an email.
    - Connections on the mail host do not close automatically and proliferate over time until the host rejects further connection requests.
Hosting provider goes on to suggest turning off IDLE command.  In my experience turning this feature off did not improve the situation.  In fact, it created a few.
Question: Is the hosting provider correct in faulting Apple Mail?
Been fielding the question with a number of people.  I'm aware of three people who are experiencing similar problems, each using different mail hosts.  Tech reps at inmotionhosting.com and nexcess.com point the finger at a Apple Mail, along with an IT specialist in Los Angeles, CA, and a tech support rep at an Apple Store in Arizona who said that Apple and Google mail are aware of and coordinating to resolve the problem.
Anyone out there have any insights into this?

  • Can't download email from Mail 5.3 installed on OS 10.7.5.

I can't download email from Mail 5.3 the last 2 days installed on OS 10.7.5. Then tried to upgrade to Mail 10.5.6 but get message that all my volumes are full. No they're not!! What gives?? See grab shot below.
    <IMG SRC="http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/7694997/view/upgradeglitch.jpg">

I may have just found the solution.  It turns out that the photos on my iPhone only became inaccessible after the latest upgrade of iOS 7.  They were not recognizable by any means of access from my mac. So...I launched iTunes and up came a dialog box asking me if I wanted to allow access to the iPhone via this computer.  I clicked "Allow," and it told me to use the iPhone to allow access.  I went to the iPhone and sure enough there was a dialog box asking for permission to share information with the computer.  I clicked "allow" or "yes" or something like that, and for me the problem was solved.  I can now upload photos from my iPhone with Bridge just like I used to.  No problem.  I hope this will work for other mac users.

  • How do I retain a copy of deleted email on server using IMAP?

I like using an IMAP connection for Iphone email because it gives me access to personal folders created in my Yahoo mail account.  On my Iphone 4S, I was able to delete an email without causing it to be deleted in Outlook on my desktop computer.  I have not been able to duplicate this using the Iphone 5 and don't know whether I have a setting issue on the Iphone, my desktop, or in my Yahoo Mail account.  I have searched all three and cannot find an option that specifically addresses this.
I am accessing Yahoo mail on my desktop through a POP account.  On the Iphone, I have selected the NEVER advanced option for removing deleted messages.
If anyone can help me with this, I would be most appreciative.

Check your mail preferences. The example below is from the mail app that comes with mac. In my case I'm using yahoo mail which is a POP3 account. POP stands for post office protocol which is the set of rules used by a POP mail account to transfer mail. You can learn more about it here if interested. If the box below is checked, all the mail will be downloaded to your computer when you check your mail using the built in mail app and removed from the mail server. Here is another page to help you set up your hotmail account for use the the mac mail application. Hope this clears things up.

  • Incoming emails not syncing using IMAP

    Hello Community Members,
I am having a problem with one specific email not syncing incoming emails using IMAP on my BB Classic.
    IMAP server: imap.secureserver.net
I have followed the instructions and all the other accounts I have configured seem to work properly.
Downloading using POP works for this specific email.
Anyone experiencing similar problems?  Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Alan

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It is possible that your email server did not, as part of the "wizard" configuration, provide the proper settings to auto-configure to the device. Therefore, I recommend you:
    Remove this email configuration
Find the proper settings to use, via the EAVT or perhaps by asking your email service provider
Reconfigure this email, but use the manual/advanced screens and manually enter everything, bypassing the wizard
Hopefully that will work for you.
Good luck and let us know!

Just cannot register my Q10 to my icloud email using IMAP. I have tried every permutation there is but continue to get error messages. Really fed up and need a hand. I have no problem setting up a separate YAHOO and GMAIL account. My supplier is GiffGaff if that helps. I show the settings below which various web sites state is correct but STILL get error messages. A typical error message is:“the server for account imap email:icloud – (my email address) port 587 can't be reached. please check etc”What you see below is exactly what my Q10 setup look like. From settings:IMAP description ….....icloudyour name …......*******username …......... THIS IS A PROBLEM, had .mac iCloud mail running fine on my Q10 until JULY 1. Mail was received but could not send out. Checked settings-did not connect to server. Deleted account and re entered information. TriediCloud.com and me.com substitutions to username and that did not work. Apparently something has changed on the Blackberry end since I can reach my mail on other devices and other mail clients. If can't resolve this week may have to get rid of Blackberrry product as much as I like them

  • Problem when "Checking for Mail" using IMAP and POP

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3G running 2.0.1 and created 3 mail accounts (1 Gmail using IMAP, and 2 using POP).
When I first set up the phone 2 days ago the installer copied the settings from my Mac and emails on my iPhone showed up correctly.
Since yesterday something is screwed up because when I try to fetch new email I only see "Checking for Mail" at the bottom of the screen but nothing happens and new emails don't show up.
Any idea how to fix this problem?
    Thanks!

FYI you don't actually have to completely reboot the phone. From inside your email program, push and hold the HOME button for 7 or 8 seconds until it exits email and dumps you back at your home screen. That causes a hard-quit of the email program and will reset it. You should begin getting email again immediately after.
Here's hoping Apple fixes that anomaly on their next release...

  • Cannot send emails from Mail- using yahoo email - please help!!

I'm having major problems with my yahoo email in Mail. No matter what settings i seem to use, any emails i send take hours and hours to arrive. I seem to be receiving email, but cannot send- sometimes i get an error message, other times they go into sent box but take hours or days to arrive. i'm using a brand new imac version 10.5.2

    Hello Fred.
If you’re sure your settings are exactly the same as on the computers where it works, here a couple of things that you may want to look at.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
Mail keeps information about outgoing servers in a separate list, independently of any specific mail account. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there. The Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.

  • HT1277 cannot get mail using imap

Since changing over to imap, I can only get my email by quitting mail and then restart it? It works fine on my iPhone. Anyone out there got some idea's??
    Thanks in advance
    Rob Moser

Did you change the Incoming server to...
    Incoming Mail Server: imap.telus.net
    Instead of the old...
    Incoming Mail Server: pop.telus.net
Is there 2 entries for telus incoming server?
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995

  • TS3276 Corrupt Attachment in Apple Mail (using IMAP)(on Mountain Lion too)

I got corrupt attachments by using Apple Mail, IMAP on both Gmail and my company email. The problem continues since Lion, Mountain Lion is the same still. Any suggestion?
This is really a trouble to me...
Look, the main reason I bought Mountain Lion on 25th this month is Mail improvement. And seems the hug problem is not solved at all... what a pity...
I might have to go back to the less integrated 3rd party apps... Can some one answer me?

Well no particular file, any file can be corrupted in my experience. I've seen corrupted JPG files, PDF files, MS word files, excel files, and even .zip files.
It doesn't matter who send the email, it could happen on any email in my mail box. When I use other application like Thunderbird or Sparrow doesn't cause such issue.
Believe me I know what I'm doing, with the latest Mountain Lion, Latest Adobe Reader I can get from official website and it does not matter which version I'm having. No antivirus program involved, even if there is antivirus program involved, why I don't get trouble in other mail apps?
The problem is, the attachment files in the email was not correctly downloaded. It doesn't matter which program I use to view it. If I save the attached files onto my desktop, situation remain the same. The only possible way I can do is to rebuild the entire mail database. However, the rebuilding process could be hours for I have tons of emails saved on the server, and it does not guarantee will solve the problem. Why bother spending so much time only simply want to get a file? The point is, by using Thunderbird I can get the file instantly, with Mail I can't?
The following is part of the corrupted file's MIME header. I'm not sure if this is enough for I didn't copy the entire header for it contains some sender information. I would probably not sharing those email addresses.

  • Show only a few of the most recent Gmail emails in Mail (use for sending)

    Hello,
I recently set up Apple Mail, and even though I like the program a lot - I prefer to use Gmail to read and manage my emails. However, Mail is built in to many other Leopard applications, so I would prefer to use it with those (for sending purposes), such as in Preview. Therefore, I would like to know how to do the following:
    - Make it not alter anything in my Gmail inbox
    - Make it receive only a few of the most recent emails - or none
Would I have to use it through POP or IMAP for these things?
    Thanks!

if you set up as pop, then you can choose the option to download from the day you created the account forward, thereby limiting the amount of emails that will be downloaded to mail. you would first have to enable pop in gmail>settings. with pop if you make a change in mail, in say your inbox, then that change will not be reflected in gmail on the web.
if you set up as imap, then what you see in gmail will be the same as what you see in mail as far as your emaisl/mailboxes... and chnages you make on one will be shown on the other.
    hope this helps

  • External email users cannot use IMAPS/SMTPS

We have an email server running but since Mountain Lion (ML) server we do not have the webmail for external users and they are now forced to use email clients on PCs etc., which would be acceptable, if it worked.
This has created a weird problem... they cannot read and send email anymore.
Our server is using SSL and our preferred settings are:
    IMAP
    Port 993
    Authentication: CRAM-MD5
    SMTP
    Port 587
    Authentication: CRAM-MD5
The mail server is set to use automatic authentification (which I do not like because of the clear text option)
All this worked honkey-dorey before on Lion Server, but not now on a fresh installation of OS X ML Server. Only when using an iPhone or and iPad (3G mobile/cell connections) or being on our LAN can people read and send mail. We have users externally in Belgium, Denmark, Serbia, Turkey and Spain, and none of these users can now access their email. All the external users no matter if they use MAC/WINDOWS/LINUX clients have the same problems.
Looking the log at the same time when the users attempt to log in to check email just verify that the server is rejecting their connection in spite of them using correct credentials. The users get messages ranging from incorrect username or password to incorrect password but I can login into their accounts locally or from the LAN.
Could this problem be related to the usertype Local or Local Network User?
Any ideas or help is greately appreciated?
    Peter
(Now, if anyone from Apple should happen to read this then note that it would be greatly appreciated if Apple could mature and stabilize so these severe changes to vital services could be avoided. If you support webmail (good or bad) in one release then continue to do so and if you have an advanced interface to the server functionallity like in Snow Leopard, please let us, the users, be able to keep using those tools rather than using the current 'Nintendo' interface.)

    Hi Peter
Because this is working internally, it should be easy enough to solve.
First thing, most likely obvious, you do have port 993 open to your server?
Second, please post logs. Since we are dealing only with imap, just the imap (mailaccess) log will do.
Third, webmail functionality can be restored. Roundcube or Squirrelmail can be installed on your ML server. Roundcube takes a number of steps, but has a great/fast interface, its waht 10.7 used. Earlier versions of server used SQuirrelmail.
If you are under heavy pressure to get this up now and don't want to wait for forum responses, you can find contact info in my profile.

  • How to lose mail using IMAP

I needed to do some server maint. for a customer of mine. It involved deleting and recreating their email account.
I set it up as an IMAP account in Mail. Retrieved the messages and moved them to a local folder.
Deleted and recreated the account on the server.
Did a get messages to be sure the settings were ok.
Dragged the messages back to the IMAP inbox.
I got an error that mail could not write the messages.
The messages are gone from the source folder.
I suspect that this is because the server doesn't create the containers for the mail on itself until a message is received from the outside.
But why would Mail delete the source mails before they are successfully copied to the destination?
I will have to contact my host and pay a recovery fee to get the emails back. If they even have them. Hopefully the customer has a copy.

I assume you're not actually trying to use NTLM authentication.
A bug in JavaMail 1.4.3 can cause failures related to NTLM in some cases, although I don't think
it should show up as the failure you're seeing. To work around, set the session property
    "mail.imap.auth.ntlm.disable" to "true".
If that doesn't solve your problem, make sure you don't have more than one set of JavaMail
    classes in your CLASSPATH.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.
