  • Download error -5000

I purchased music but receive repeated download errors (-5000).  I've checked and updated all "permissions" but still cannot download the music for which I've already been charged!  Help please!

form reading your post it sounds like your issue is with itunes rather than appletv?
if so, then it might be better to post your issue in the itunes forum.

  • 3.0 update download error -5000

My wife has purchased the 3.0 update but all attempts to download retrieve a 0.4kB file and error -5000.
Similar problems are reported elsewhere but not this particular error number -5000. She has tried over several days so it is not likely to be a server problem. There do not seem to be any other network problems and I have ensured firewalls are off and no virus /blocking software is running.
In case it is relevant, we share the iTunes music folder and she only has read access to that. I changed it to read/write access in case iTunes was trying to store the download there but that made no difference.
Has anyone found a resolution to the update download failures?

This really sounds like a network or server error. Having the write access to that directory turned off was also a likely contributor. The actual update file is over 200 MB. If you haven't deleted (and emptied the trash as well) that file, do so before you try the download again. You also might want to repair permissions as well as switching permissions in the middle of something may have created a problem.
If you are the admin on the system, why don't you download it under your sign in. I'd be curious to see if you have problems.

  • HT1539 DVD Digital download - error 5000

I'm unable to transfer a digital copy of a DVD to my PC via iTunes. It shows a completed download after 3 to 4 minutes then the following error displays "An error occurred while copying (name of movie) from the DVD to your computer. You do not have enough access priviliges. The iTunes status displays "stopped err = 5000. How can I correct this issue?

    andrewfromcarmel,
I experienced a similar issue with 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.
    Several questions:
    1. What version of iTunes are you using?
    2. Is your iTunes library located on a network drive or a local drive?
    3. What error are you getting during the download?
    4. Do you have the ability to try and download the extras file on a different computer?

  • Download error 5000 when downloading the LP for the Lifehouse Deluxe Smoke

I've been having this problem for the pass couple of days. I have been in contact with itunes and they were unable to resolve my issue. Wondering if anyone here is having this problem or had it and was able to resolve it.
So anyways I downloaded the Lifehouse Deluxe Smoke and Mirrors, and all the songs downloaded with so problem at all, but the LP would download, but whe it came to processing I would get the error. The first couple of times I was getting the 42003 error and after today when apple/itunes got back with me after running some tests and then going back to try and download the LP I'm getting the 5000 error.
Now I just download a free song with no issues at all, so I know my connection is fine. Itunes it saying that the issue is either with my computer or my ISP, but if that were the case then why was I able to download a song just now with no issues?
    Any idea?
    Thanks

The biggest single cause of this are firewalls & anti-virus software on your computer. So, disable or uninstall all firewalls, anti-virus software, anti-malware, anti-anything and try again. But first, delete the existing .ipsw file on your computer in case it may be corrupted. You will have to turn on show all hidden files & folders to see it. It is located here:

  • Error -5000 and -3253 while downloading

i just bought the Beatles box set
it is composed of songs, videos and LPs
on most of the LP (read here most not all) i have the error -5000
and on 2 videos i have error -3253
from what i have understood error -5000 if a problem with access permissions on my computer
if so why some LP have been correctly downloaded and others don't?
    and what is error -3253?

I just spent over an hour on the phone and working through Remote Advisor w/an Apple Technician (AT) going through a plethora of troubleshooting items - all to no avail.
The AT did provide me with his/her specific contact information and promised to get back to me with an update within 24-hours.  Although there is no resolution at this time, I do at least have the comfort knowing that this issue has indeed been forwarded to the Engineering team for them to review and address.
I just hope that this is resolved sooner rather than later.
And as an FYI I did suggest that they check out the Community Forums to get better understanding that this is not an issue specific to me alone but to a much broader group.

  • TS3297 i keep getting the error-5000 when trying to download my music purchases, it's says I don't have enough access privledges for this operation what can I do

I keep getting this message when trying to download music purchases on my netbook
    error-5000 not enough access priviledges

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Podcast download stopped with error -5000 in iTunes

I have been continually getting these "stopped (err = -5000)" errors whilst trying to download podcasts. Weird because I can connect to the iTunes Store.
Some research I've done suggests this is a permissions error. I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried right clicking the iTunes media folder (that all downloaded content is stored) and changing the security settings to "all access" but nothing helped.
    Any other suggestions please?

Check this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1475 which has some information about error 5000.
As you say, it appears to be a permissions error. From that page I noticed that you need to check the permissions of all the folders inside the iTunes music folder.
If the folder structure is the same as Windows XP, then inside the iTunes Music folder will be a specific folder for Podcasts, called (unsurprisingly) Podcasts.
Post again in this thread with any success or failure. Good luck
    Phil

You can't get the latest greatest iOS apps but there are tons of the more vintage apps available, even for models that can only run iOS 4.2.1 or earlier.  The trick is finding them.  This is one way,

  • ITunes won't download purchased content: "Error 5000"

Whenever I purchase something from the iTunes store, I get an "Error 5000" message saying that "You do not have enough access privileges." I asked a genius at the Apple Store and they don't know what to do. I have an administrator account, so I should have enough access privileges. Please tell me what to do.

deleting the preferences (your homefolder<library<preferences<com.apple.iTunes.plist) seems to work for me for a while, but not the whole time. You also have to go each time again through the little set-up (find music in my home folder, use iTunes for internet content playback and what not), so I would like to know if anybody has any other solution?
I download a lot of podcasts and they are affected by this issue, too.

  • My iPhone 4 will not complete a back up. Error - 5000 comes up

Error 5000 appears after "preaparing phone for back up" completes. "Continuing will result in the loss of all contents of this phone" is the message. Phone will not complete a synch and iTunes often goes into "Not responding". I have repaired iTunes by downloading the software from Apple's website. No improvement.
    Can anybody offer a solution?

This is a bad situation. Your iPhone is in a state which cannot be backed up, and the Restore will return iPhone to factory specs erasing it. You need to Restore your iPhone to get it working again. If you were experiencing problems before, maybe your iPhone is damaged. If still faulty, and you have Warranty or AppleCare take iPhone to Apple for evaluation. If no coverage and still faulty it may be time for new phone.

Is that a -50 error message, jolyn?
If so, perhaps try the "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:

  • Constant Download Errors & Content Deletion

I have 2 problems that I've contacted Apple about many, many times without any resolution. They just keep treating me like a moron and then making me go through the same hoops that don't work. Can anyone help:
    1. This is the most persistent. I get an error 5000 at the end of a download saying i don't have proper authority to write to the drive (but I do, i'm an administrator of my machine). The content does not write to my drive (can't find it anywhere) and then i can't download it again as the iTunes store thinks I've already downloaded it. This has happened probably 10 times and I'm missing many things I've paid for. HELP!!!!!!
    2. This is a new one. I did a sync and iTunes deleted content from my iPod saying i don't have rights on this computer to it (though it was downloaded on this computer and paid for on this computer).
I really don't want to hate Apple, but i'm getting there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Tks,

Take a close look at the error message to see what it says. I got that yesterday on one site. It couldn't find a file that I had added to the site when creating it originally. It was looking on the Desktop for it as that's where it was when I imported it into iWeb. I has since deleted or moved the file somewhere else. For some reason iWeb 09 occasionally acts like iDVD, i.e. referencing items. I added the photo again, republished and it went thru as it should. So look closely at the error message to see what is causing iWeb its heartburn.

I'm trying to download and install OS4 for my iPod touch. However, it keeps giving me download error 50. I clicked the more information link, and it gives a list of things that might possibly fix it. Does anyone know what this error means, and what usually fixes it?
