Downloading files from a servlet...

Everything is working except...
The first problem we have run into during testing is that when two users click on the same file for downloading, the servlet locks up for one request while handling the second request. When the first request is finished, the second one carries on. Not a good thing with larger files, but, this is understandable due to servlets not being multi-threaded.
We attempted to fix that problem by synchronizing the reading/writing of the file. A new problem arose, when both users download the file, one user gets a majority of the server bandwidth, while the other gets very little. (i.e. 400k per sec. vs. 40k per sec.)
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to manipulate the resources to balance the download bandwidth equally amongst clients while still using the servlet.
(Using servlets is a necessity due to the application design)

Servlets not multi-threaded? Well, you can do some work to make them not multi-threaded, but by default they are multi-threaded. And I don't see why you would need to do any synchronization, either. Perhaps the problem lies in your servlet container. Most of them will create multiple threads that reference the same servlet, if they need to handle multiple requests. But I don't know how they handle load-balancing between requests.

I need to write an app that will download files from our clients and put it on our server. It is client initiated process from a browser.
I know the html type is "type=file" and when the user clicks it it brings up a file dialog. Then they can select a file name from their hard drive.
Now, when the user hits "submit" I want the file to download to our server. But how can I get an http servlet to control this process?

First of all, download is when data comes from somewhere to your local machine, Upload is when you send data from your local machine to somehwere. So, you are looking to UPLOAD data.
Second, if you search on here for references to 'upload', you will find exactly what you are looking for.

Help required with downloading files from inside WEB-INF folder

I am working on a web application and I have an upload script which uploads different files to a foler called 'uploads' . To stop users from accessing the folder content I have put it in the /WEB-INF/.
In my JSP file, I used to link to the uploaded files like this before for users to download them :

Anything under WEB-INF is not directly accessible via the browser/ client. You could try defining the JSP/ Servlet inside web.xml deployment descriptor and see if you can access the file from there.
I think a better way to accomplish this would be to keep the file outside WEB-INF , and use other techniques to protect the folder that contains the file - for example password-protection, or defining a .htaccess file and serving a 403 Forbidden error.

Can I download files from an ftp server by simply using the ip address or https:// url? I've only gotten this to work by using the "ftp//:" address in previous projects and I'm not getting this to work in many different attempts.

Uploading and downloading files from a web app (Urgent!!)

Hi everyone:
I'm developing an application in PL/SQL to upload and download files from an HTML webpage. I congured the document table and the parameters necessary in the DAD of my application.
when I upload the file using my webpage that file info is automatically uploaded to the doc table. This is as far as I have gotten.
I need to do the following:
- Place the uploaded file into a column in another table in my database as part of a text message (think of it as an email message), and delete the file from the doc table (as this is thought to be a temp table that holds the file when uploaded from my webpage)
- Retreive the file so that it can be downloaded from another web page.
The file can be a PDF, WORD DOC, etc...
I now that I can do this with InterMedia but I haven't figured out how :(
Can anyone please point me to an example or some documentation that can guide me through the process.

The idea was for you to look at the code and get an idea of how to access the BLOB in the document table. IF you look at the procedure
insert_new_photo( new_description IN VARCHAR2,
new_location IN VARCHAR,
new_photo IN VARCHAR2 )
It shows how to access the blob that is stored in the document table. You can then copy this blob to your own table using the DBMS_LOB package.

PROBLEM while using URL in order to open a file from a servlet

Following is my code sample. what happens is when I first run my project it opens the file but after that when I rerun it again and again it sometimes opens it and sometimes not. if it can't open it it gives an error saying "the file is damaged and couldn't be repaired". Create a new GarageBand "Movie" project, then import your movie into GarageBand, by dragging it from the "Movies" tab of the Media Browser into the Timeline. GarageBand will split the movie into a video channel and an audio channel. Delete the video/movie channel and use the "Share" menu to send the audio channel to iTunes (assuming you have iLife '11 GarageBand)

DATA TRANSFER - How to get a SINGLE SPACE in the downloaded file from UNIX?

Hi Experts,
Am sending data from SAP to UNIX/ Application server and text file on desk top as well.
So, I am keeping a single character just SPACE at the END of each record.
Then, When I see the downloaded text file, I found a SINGLE SPACE at the end of each record, fine.
Then, by using CG3Y t code, I downloaded the UNIX file to my desk top.
But, When I see this UNIX downloaded file from UNIX, I did NOT find any SPACE at the end of each record!!!
Am doing every thing same in both cases.
So,
1 - Why its happening in case of UNIX file?
2 - How to get a SINGLE SPACE at the END in the downloaded file from UNIX?

I don't know if this works:
perform SET_TRAIL_BLANKS(saplgrap) using 'X'.
perform SET_FIXLEN(saplgrap) using '0' '060'. "put length of your line from-to
... download ...
It will put space at the end of your line, according to the length.

Result of this code is : there is a pop up asking to open or save pdf format and process is complete, but i have problem in downloaded file.
At the time of creation i have put BMP image for signature in PDF file and it is working fine but when i upload that file in Application server and then download it with above used code it save the PDF file but when i open that file so whereever i have used signature that page gives error and could not display that scanned signature.
Can anyone please help me in this regard.
or is there any possibility from which i can download that file just like File transfer from BSP.
Keep in mind that i am using BSP technology so all GUI based function module to download file are not working.

I have standard sap form for TDS Certificate on which i have include an BMP image for digital signature and download that script into pdf format.While i download that PDF looks ok but it is not working in BSP.
