Downloading files on iPhone

I live in a broadband dead zone. At home, I rely on my iPhone to check emails and connect to the internet. Lately, I've been required to work from home. Anytime I need to download a file or access my FTP, I have to find a hotspot. Other than tethering or jailbreaking, is there any way I can download files using the iPhone and then transfer them to my computer?

an App named "Files" was updated to use the file sharing in itunes that doesnt require wifi, but im not sure how well it works and itunes doesnt let you transfer any type of file... you would probably need to jailbreak for any file type!
Add note... wifi does Not need internet to transfer files to your PC!

To add a ringtone, download it from your computer and make sure it is a .m4r file. Once this is done, add it to your iTunes library (it will go in the ringtones section). Then sync your phone making sure that it syncs ringtones as well (check it in the ringtones tab).
Then in your sound preferences on your iPhone change the ringtone.

Yes you will need to NAT at some point to go from private to public address space. Here is a basic configuration if you are interested:

Although there is not a way to remove past purchases from your iTunes account completely, you can hide them so that you don't have to see them if you don't want to. This article will help you do that:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
Hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from the top of the window.
A list of your purchased items for the content type you are viewing will appear. Mouse over the item you want to hide until an X appears its top-left corner.
A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the X.

The downloaded file is probably stored at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. In general it is probably best to "download and install" updates than download and then install later. Note that you cannot revert to the older firmware if you don't like the update, even if you have the old .ipsw files.

Go to settings --> store --> and make sure automatic downloads for music is on. If you download music in iTunes, it should automatically download to your phone.

Yes it does stay.
Go in documents>>>Music>>Itunes folder. (if you have downloaded the iOS via itunes)
Look under this folder you will find the ipsw file there.
You can use the iOS build for same models of the iPhone.

I think NSURL can not get content from ftp protocol

Yes, if I try access with specify the file name as:
@"ftp://username:[email protected]/file.txt"
then I can get content of file.
But I want list and show all file in path: @"ftp://username:[email protected]".

Idisk app: delete file from iphone but NOT idisk?

maybe i'm missing something but how do you delete a downloaded file from just your iphone? when i tap the delete button in the downloaded file window it deletes it from my idisk.
