Downloading fonts.

Hi there, I recently bought a iMac Mini and love it but as a complete newbie to Mac I have a few small problems I'm running into. At the moment I am trying to download fonts - however they are not showing up in Pages.  I have Googled and found that the default download file was 'user' so I changed it to 'Computer' uninstalled the fonts I had downloaded and reinstalled with the new location.  They're still not there.  What's my next step.  Lynda

  • How to Use a Downloaded Font

How do I use a downloaded font with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007?  The font is in a zip file.  What I found on Google gave directions for Windows XP and I was able to find the font dialog box through the control panel, but there was no drop down file option (where I was supposed to be able to simply add the font), which is what all the sources told me to look for in Windows XP ... which doesn't really help for Windows 7.  Please help!
Nothing I post is an official statment of Best Buy or Geek Squad, it is only a helpful opinion!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can help you out with this! Windows 7 has made it easy for us to do this!
    1. Right click on Zipped file that you have.
    2. Click extract here.
    3. You should see another folder appear that is unzipped.
    4. Open that folder and find the font file. (There are a few different types)
    5. Right click the font file and choose the option "Install"
That should do it! ( You can also delete the 2 folders you are left with once it is installed)
    Hope this helps!

  • HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer Not Saving Downloaded Fonts

    Hi,
we have recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer which needs to be used with a system that downloads fonts for correct style printouts. The problem I am having is the fonts download initially which is great, but they are not saved by the printer after 1 printout so the user is having to download the fonts everytime she wants to print something.
All other printers in the office are HP2055 and work as expected saving the fonts after the initial download. I have asked the support team of the application to have a look at the situation and they say everything is setup correctly so it may be an issue with the printer. Printer is installed on a Windows XP SP3 PC.
    Firware version: 20121205 (15 Dec 2012)
    Driver Version: 61.140.04.14138 (1 Jan 2013)
Any help would be appeciated, thanks.
    Robert

If the downloaded soft fonts are definitely not being saved (despite the download presumably terminating with a 'make soft font permanent' escape sequence), then the problem must lie in the firmware - and the only resolution is if HP releases  a new version with a fix.
To be certain about which PCL5 fonts are resident in the printer, you have presumably printed off a  'PCL5 Typeface List' via the relevant front panel menu (assuming this printer has one).
Or you could send the following direct to the printer to invoke that report:
<Esc>%-12345X@PJL COMMENT Print PCL Font List
    @PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040004010105020402015E"
    <Esc>%-12345X
where <Esc> represents the non-graphic) Escape control-code character (the character with decimal code 27, or hexadecimal 1B), and each PJL statement is terminated with a LineFeed control-code (decimal 10, hexadecimal 0A).
Assuming that the printer is USB-connected, you could send the contents of the file (name, say, testfile.prn) holding the above to the printer using the copy command in a command-prompt session:
    copy /b testfile.prn \\computer-name\share-name
     where:
computer-name is the name of the host workstation
share-name is a share name of the installed Windows printer instance.
I don't have access to your model of printer, but I do use a LaserJet Pro 400 Colour MFP 475dn (MFP equivalent of M451 printer), and this does appear to retain downloaded 'permanent' soft fonts - but only until the device goes into 'sleep' mode!
So it is probably a common 'fault' (or 'design decision'?) across this family (LJ Pro 400) of printers.

  • Why do downloaded fonts not work in photoshop elements 10 but work fine in other applications?

Having trouble with downloaded fonts in adobe photoshop elements 10.  Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem?  The font does not show detail (all filled in black) in elements but is perfectly fine in other applications on my mac.

PSE simply uses the system fonts. Have you installed the font in the default location?
Are you using a small font size on a large resolution image?

Just double click the fonts in Finder and they will open in Font Book and be available on your Mac.
You may have to restart Pages. The other possibility is they are there but in a different order. Some fonts cluster down the list.

  • Firefox refuses to show downloaded font on initial page

The first of the following web sites is a hand written web site and the next is a WordPress blog:
    http://www.lovatasinhala.com
    http://www.ahangama.com
They both use a downloaded Open Type font. It is a Singhala smartfont. (The first and only smartfont for any written language).
Firefox 3.0 is the first browser that displayed the ligatures in the font according to Open Type. Since of late, when you use Firefox to go to these sites, the pages are shown in the default font (Arial). The author specified font is not shown even after the page is refreshed. However, if you click another menu (or a blog page), the font shows.
I tested these pages in Safari, Chrome/Chromium, Arora, Opera and IE. All of them display the font as soon as you call up the web site except, of course, IE that does not understand Open Type.
In 2006, there was a unfounded fear that rendering thousands of ligatures would grind the computer to a halt. It was due to a misunderstanding of how an Open Type font is processed. Later, the Bugzilla engineers of Mozilla tested this issue and found that the difference between rendering a non-ligatured font and my font is 2%, which I think is within the margin of error.
I think the old legend has entered the minds of the Mozilla engineers.
Please fix this problem as Firefox is by far the most popular browser in South Asia among users of Windows XP and Linux, and this solution for complex scripts is the only way Indic languages could be elevated to same level as European languages that use the Latin script.
    Thanks.

    cor-el,
Thank you for trying to help.
I do not understand what you expect me to see after doing Ctrl+Shift+K. What I get is a blank area and a prompt to type something just below it
I tested V9 in my Puppy Linux machine and it showed the page as expected using the smartfont. The problem is in Windows XP and 7. In both of those, the page is shown as Romanized Singhala. If you try to refresh the page, it does not switch to the font that is already downloaded in the background. Only way to trigger it to show the Singhala font is to click on another menu and come back.
Please see the two screenshots sent. They are of the identical page, but in two different fonts. One is in Romanized Singhala because it is displayed in the default Latin font. The other one is in the downloaded Singhala script.
All other browsers (not IE) wait for the font to finish downloading to display the page in that font. This is the behavior of V3.6. Now it shows the default font forgetting the downloaded font. This may be due to a misconception regarding display delay.

  • How to download fonts into CS5

I have downloaded fonts to my mac but cannot access them when I am in CS5. I have also lost some that were working in CS5. How do I fix these fonts?

and you can google instructions for how to check and install fonts with your operating system.

Fonts are handled by your operating system and installed through the respective System Control panel (Windows) or Fontbook (Mac). On Windows simply type "Fonts" in the search bar in the start menu and when you open the panel/ folder use File --> Add Font. On Mac the procedures are similar, you just need to find the Fontbook app in Applications:Utilities.

  • Downloaded font in Illustrator

    Hello,
I recently got a new computer and transferred the programs and license to the new computer. I installed some new fonts from a free online source for personal use. Illustrator recognizes that they are installed when I search in the character box, but does not change to that font when selected. It also does not show up in the drop down font tab. Any ideas on how to fix this and get my downloaded fonts working again?

You have not provided any system info and otehr details, so we can't know. And chances are that one of your free fonts is simply busted and messes up the font system as a whole e.g. by using the same internal font name as another font or being designed poorly and not rendering correctly. Same old, same old, really...

  • Is it possible use a downloaded font in JavaFX?

    Hi,
I need to let users of an applet select fonts that are then downloaded and used to display text.
I can donwload the font and run createFont(), but it seems impossible to then register it with the graphicsEnvironment.
I have a class that does this and it works when it is part of a java project, but when it is part of a javaFX project Netbeans will not accept.registerFont().
These fonts work fine if they are obtained from the client system using getAllFonts().
They need to be downloaded individually on selection because there are too many to load with the applet.
Is there a way to make registerFont() work in JavaFX, or is there some other method for making a downloaded font available to a Text object?
    Thank you!

    Thanks, that is useful knowledge.
Is there any other way to make the font available than by registerFont?
(Apologies for the late reply - for some reason I didn't get a watch list notification.)

  • How do I move photoshop to new mac and keep my downloaded fonts?

    Hi there.
I am planning to buy a new MacBook very soon and am beginning to sort out all my files in preparation. I currently have Adobe Photoshop CS and have quite a few fonts on there that I have downloaded and would like to transfer everything to my new laptop without losing my fonts. How do I do this? I would be using an external hard drive to transfer files.
    Thank you!

The migration assistant that will run when you first start up your new Mac will step you through how to transfer everything from your old Mac. You don't even need an external hard drive, but you will need either a network cable, a FireWire cable or a Thunderbolt cable, depending on what your old Mac has available.

  • I used an external hard drive for my backups via Time Capsule.  I bought a new computer and I want to transfer all my old fonts over to the new one but when I go into the Font Library from the hard drive backup but my downloaded fonts aren't there?

I used an external hard drive to back up my computer using Time Capsule before I bought a new one.  I am slowly transferring information fromt he backup to my new computer and I want to transfer over my old font book.  When I go into the Font folder on the hard drive the only fonts that show up are the ones that came stock with the computer not any of the ones I have downloaded over time.  Could they be downloaded somewhere else?

The answer to that would probably be "Yes." If you don't remember where your fonts were stored, you may want to search your backups for any of the font files you know the names to. See where that takes you.
Ideally, Font Book and other font managers will temporarily store the fonts you "installed" into the System when you run the OS. When you shut down, etc. they are removed and reloaded on restart. The permanent place fonts reside is where you saved them when or after you downloaded them. I typically create a Resources folder on the root level of the computer and place a Fonts folder there. Then I install fonts from there, and they are available to all users on that iMac.
Perhaps if you did not have that kind of a strategy, perhaps many of them are still in your Downloads folder?

  • Is it possible to download fonts to Laserwriter Pro 600 from OS X?

I have a LaserWriter Pro 600 that is still working remarkably well, using an Appletalk converter on my Network. In the past (OS 9 days), I used to be able to download PS fonts directly into the 8Mb of onboard memory in order to speed up printing when using fonts that are not built into the memory.
Is this even possible with OS X, and how do you do it?

Thanks, maybe I should have been more specific - I have a new MacBook Pro running Leopard, so Classic is out of the picture. I assume there's no way to do this without Classic?
