Downloading from a foreign iTunes store

Several songs I want to buy are not available in the U.S. If I register a different e-mail address and use an address in one of those countries I assume I will be able to buy songs from those foreign stores.
My question--will I be able to play those songs back on the same computer I use to play songs purchased from the U.S. store?

Unless you can show some form of residency you cannot buy from another country's store. The question on cross store purchasing is asked frequently so I'll just quote the most complete answer (courtesy of Dave Sawyer) from the many given:
In order to buy from any given country's iTunes Music Store, you must have either:
a) a credit card with a billing address in that country, or
b) a mailing address in that country and a gift certificate or a prepaid card that was bought in that country.
If you cannot fulfill one of these two sets of conditions, you will not be able to purchase from any given country's iTMS.
.......this is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders (who are often completely different from country to country and so all require their own individual negotiations and contracts), not by Apple's choice. And this also applies to all the legal download stores that carry major-label content, not just the iTMS.

  • HT201272 How can I download from another countries iTunes store?

I'm not from America, I'm Canadian and I can't download a specific album.  When I transfer to the American store it tells me I'm not authorized to download from there.
Anyone know how I can gain authorization?
    Thanks,
    -Krazy

You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country...

  • Can i watch content downloaded from other country itunes stores

If I purchase content on overseas itunes store can I watch it here in AU?

First you will have problems even purchasing it from another country.  The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.
E.g., "The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance. - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE"
I don't know if there would be issues actually playing it if you did eventually get it on your computer.  There must be people who buy content in one country, then move to another country and I would think we would see many complaints here if all their old content suddenly stopped working.

  • Can't download anything from App or iTunes store

Well, this is by far the worst update I have ever had, got new iPhone 6 128GB, straight away had major syncing to iTunes on my Mac problems which I am still having, but also another major issue.
After about a day of use, if I go into the App Store or iTunes Store on the phone it won't let me download anything, I press on Free, then Install, and all I get is a swirling icon, it never asks me to enter my password or verify by Touch ID, just keeps on swirling, if I press it again the icon dims, the only way I can fix it is by reseting all settings on the phone but by the early hours it once again will not let me download a thing.
Both previous iPhone 5 when I had it worked and a iPad Air 128GB work with the same account.

Looks like I've discovered a clue to why I can't download from App or iTunes store on the phone after a certain amount of time, I do a reboot with Home and Power button this time when it was failing to download an app and when it came back on the phone chucked a ton of pop up messages at me, to verify with Touch ID, to put my password in, and messages about the fact I'd already downloaded that app, about 10 messages.
Seems like at some point iOS 8 is not bringing up the message to verify the app download when in the store and it's getting stuck in a queue which the reboot is unsticking.

iTunes Store: Error (-50) when downloading purchased videos
Last Modified on: April 24, 2007
    Article: 303887
    Symptom
The following alerts may appear when trying to download purchased videos from the iTunes Store:
"There was an error downloading your purchased music. An unknown error occurred (-50)."
This can happen when the connection timeout occurs while downloading purchased video content from the iTunes Store.
    Products affected
    iTunes Store
    iTunes for Windows
    iTunes for Mac OS X
    Purchased video content
    Solution
Deleting the cached video files of the download, and starting the download again from the beginning, often will resolve this issue.
To find the cached video downloads:
Navigate to the downloads folder on your system. This folder can be found in the following locations:
    Mac:
    ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Downloads
Note: The tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
    Windows Vista:
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Downloads\
    Windows XP and 2000:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Downloads\
Locate the folder that contains the cached video file for this purchase.
In Windows Vista, the folder will be named for the purchased video, and the name will end with .tmp.
    Example: The Dundies.tmp
In Windows XP and Windows 2000, the folder will be named for the purchased video, and the name will end with .m4v.tmp.
    Example: The Dundies.m4v.tmp
Move the .tmp folder for the affected purchased video to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Check for Purchases.
Enter your account name and password and click the Check button.

  • Purchasing Music From Foreign iTunes Stores

I had just recently discovered the option of "My Store" at the very bottom of iTunes which enables customers to view other iTunes stores all over the globe. When trying to purchase music from the Österreich iTunes store, I found I wasn't able to do so. I received an error message, as shown above, stating that I was only valid for purchases within the US iTunes store. My question is simple: Why are US iTunes customers not allowed to purchase items from foreign iTunes stores? I do know that you must register to one country in order to begin your iTunes experience (when you first download the program) but does that choice of a country really limit you to your range of music? Is this due to various licensing laws or problems with converting currency? Also, if customers are not allowed to purchase items from foreign stores, why are they allowed the option to view these stores? Answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Yes, it's all about copyright and licensing. Currency conversion isn't at issue. In order to purchase music from a particular store, you have to have 1) a valid billing address in the country and 2) a credit card billed to that address or purchase gift cards in that country. It is quite possible that one person could have valid residence and billing information for more than one country. My parents, for a long time, maintained residences in both the U.S. and Canada, so if the iTunes Store had been available, they could have had two accounts, one U.S. and one Canadian.
Yes, it seems at odds with our global economy but intellectual property law has really caught up to the twentieth century yet.

  • ITunes no longer fetches album art from foreign iTunes stores?!

I have been having some trouble getting art for music available in other iTunes stores for a few days now. I can't get art for a few of my imported CDs. I even tried out clearing album artwork from an album I already for which I already had artwork and got the little "no artwork available" message when I tried to re-download its cover art.
I emailed support and got this reply, from "Laura":
+Unfortunately, if the content you are importing into iTunes is not on the iTunes Store that your account country is from, iTunes will not recognize it and you wont be able to grab the album artwork from another country.+
This is news to me! When did this change occur, or is "Laura" just mistaken? I seriously hope it's just a bug. I've been getting artwork from foreign iTunes stores since iTunes 7 first came out in 2006... why ruin a good thing now??

I believe this is the case as iTunes no longer recognizes "Province" by TV on the Radio as having artwork, when it's clearly available in the UK store.
It's especially distressing when I purchase actual CDs from other countries specifically because they are not available in the US. Why is the artwork "region locked" is beyond me, but that's generally what happens when you play by their rules.
I suppose the only work around is to scan the artwork yourself or pull it from another site.

  • If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content?

If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content? I want to buy an album that I cannot get hold of in Korea, but it is available in the US iTunes store. However since most of my apps are downloaded from the Korean store I'll need to switch back in order to update them. Does anyone know if there are any issues in doing this. I'd rather find out before I spend money, change my store setting back to Korea, and then get told I can't listen to the music because I bought it from the US store and my iTunes is set to the Korean store.
    Cheers.

You canot easily change your country settings.

How come I can buy foreign books through Amazon as e-book, but the same book can't be downloaded from iTunes? That doesn't makes sense.
Why would you think that all stores would have the same policy?
Amazon allows it, iTunes does not.  That is why.  Like most companies, Apple does not forward explanations to al of their decisions to the general public.  It does not have to make sense to you, for it to be true.  Apple has teams of experts that have determined that this is how they should conduct their business.
With iTunes, you cannot use other countries stores.

  • After downloading latest quicktime update, itunes store will not load

Has anyone had this same problem after downloading latest quicktime update. iTunes store will not load.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • Buying from the Danish iTunes store

Let us say that I'm Danish, have a Danish Passport, live in the Danish Kingdom, have a Visa card from a local bank. How come that I can't buy music from the Danish iTunes Store.

have a Visa card from a local bank.
That's probably why. The iTunes Store requires that the credit card be issued by a bank in the country whose store you wish to use, and though the Faroe Islands are titularly part of the Danish Kingdom, they're autonomous and so probably have separate licenses and copyrights as far as the record companies (who mandate all of these restrictions) are concerned. Residents of the Channel Islands have the same problem with the UK download stores.

I cannot to download from the mac app store (There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20))
I traied to remove cookies and still don't working.

Regretably, none of the above solutions has resolved this problem for me.
Whenever I try to perform updates (in my case, Xcode and iPhoto both want to update), I receive the following error:
    An error occurred during purchase.
(of course, I am not trying to purchase anything, it is a free update)
If I press Retry, the above repeats until I press Cancel, then I see:
We could not complete your request.
There was an error in the App Store.  Please try again later.  (20)
I have been "trying again later" for three weeks now, with no resolution in sight.
