Downloading from icloud - suggestions of proper use

What is the point of having icloud backup my data if I can't download it when I need it. I have gbs of data just sitting from my old iphone that got lost. I have no clue whats on there and no direct way to get it back. new data shows up on my pc that goes up to the cloud but not that old data. I see it in the icloud control panel and the software pesters me about upgrading to more space. I'm like give me what is there and I will consider it!!
I have iphone 4s, windows 7, itunes up to date, OS5

Sometimes the delay in importing iCloud backup data can be caused by the size of the files and/or connection to the internet. I would recommend making sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and allow the restore from backup to finish.
The restore process is taking a long time to finish.
The amount of time needed by the restore process depends on your geographical location and the speed of your Internet connection. Even with a fast Internet connection, the restore process might take 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte to complete.
If you're traveling between countries, the restore process might take longer than usual. iCloud is tuned to provide the best service when you're in the geographical location from which you most frequently connect to the Internet. When restoring from an iCloud backup, iCloud is tuned to provide the best service in the geographical region you were in when you created the backup.

Reducing the size of your Camera Roll backup

Hello, i purchased the movie Changeling and its shows in Itunes library but will not transfer to my Ipod. It has the Icloud icon showing in the top right hand corner and if i click on play it starts to download from Icloud again and it does this each time

It has the Icloud icon in the top right hand corner of the cover and if i click on play it starts to download from Icloud again and it does this each time i wish to play it, the same now happens to all my purcased movies which of course uses additional ISP download allowance. Before the recent update and lay out of Itunes this didn't happen i just purchased a movie and downloaded it then synced it to my ipod and enjoyed it. But now this latest movie purchase will not download to my ipod. I have sent the problem to Itumes and if there is answer i havent received it. Appreciate any advice

You may need to download a lower resolution version of the movie in order for it to sync to your iPod.

That's possible if he didn't connect to a WiFi hotspot after taking them. I don't think the "Personal" Photo Stream uploads over Cellular, unless they changed it since the last time I used it.
If that's the case, then the photos likely didn't upload to Photo Stream and are stuck on the phone.
And you're not going to be able to get them back, either.

File hung on download from iCloud (pages, keynote, mac, iOS)

I've got two files, one in Pages and one in Keynote, that are hanging on the download from iCloud. No matter what device (mac, ipad, iphone) I use to view iCloud it shows the file partially downloaded and "updating." I can't select it and I can't delete it. Unfortunately, for both files, they're the only version of them I have. Other files come and go no problem.
I've tried reseting iCloud on all devices, restarting, reinstalling apps… no change. Would love to know what could be done about this.

You may have more luck in the iWork for iOS forum. In OSX it is easy to store the file locally.

Apps gets stuck when downloading from iCloud, shows as "waiting" but never downloaded

When I download an app already purchase from iCloud it gets stuck as waiting. It only happens with apps downloaded from iCloud as new apps download well.

It sounds like new apps are downloading without issue, but apps that are already on your account seem to never get done Waiting. I would start by deleting any apps you have that are currently stuck:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
Tap and hold the app you want to delete.
The apps will begin to jiggle.
Tap the X on the app.
Then sign out of the account in your Settings:
iOS: Sign in with a different Apple ID in the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores.
Tap your Apple ID.
If you see the option to Sign In, you can change your Apple ID now.
Tap Sign Out.
Then restart your iPhone and try downloading an purchased app again to test the issue:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

i have been having problems with icloud to desktop pc photos. it doesn't seem to download from icloud anymore. this happens when i take a photo using iphone and the photo gets replicated on all devices but NOT to my desktop. i have no idea what happened. it looks like apple change3d the folder to icloud photos.
recently i bought an ipad air and for whatever reasons, i don't have all the photos in my iphones "my photo stream" in my ipad. how can i sync this on my ipad?
so now the question is how can i simply copy these photos on iphone5 to my desktop and ipad? in the directory "my photo stream"

I'm not sure what you mean by the "music library" - are you looking in the Music app? Or the iTunes app (which is not the one to be looking in)?

I purchased First Blood (Rambo - part 1), Rambo (Rambo - part 4), and My Bloody Valentine (2009) through iTunes on my iMac.
I synced the movies to my iPhone 4S.
I noticed the movies were automatically uploaded to iCloud, and I had the option to download the movie from iCloud (iTunes/Purchased/Movies).
Being curious, I tapped the iCloud logo next to the movies and they downloaded again.
I now have two copies of each movie. I can delete from my iPhone the iTunes copies, but I cannot delete the iCloud copies.
The iTunes copies play.
The iCloud copies will not play as a I get a message that says "You do not have permission to access the requested resource".
How do I delete movies downloaded from iCloud, that are on my iPhone ??

I've had this happen several times... I suspect the download was interrupted for some unreported reason so it only has a partial file or has a corrupt byte in the file it failed to catch.
Just delete the local copy and re-download from the cloud and they play fine.

Old imessages not downloading from iCloud

I've just upgraded my iphone from an 4s to 5s.
I backed up everything to iCloud as I've done many times before.
However, this time my old SMS messages or imessages haven't downloaded from iCloud.
Everything else is as I'd expect.
I haven't done anything different than in the past.
What's gone wrong?.

Hello. Yeahi restored from icloud.
Ive done many iphone restores.. Having had 4 iphones
This time i backed up to icloud the day before i exchanged my iphone, making sure to back everythng up like i always do.
When starting my new iphone 5s for the first time i restored from that same icloud back up the previous day. Everything appeared as expected. Other than my sms/imessages.
I also tried from the other backups that were availble during the restore process.
Id be greatfrul for any help as i have some very personal messages stored from a relative that recently passed away.

The process depends on who controls your email. If you have (username)@mac.com, (username)@me.com or (username)@icloud.com you've come to the correct place. For any other mail server, you need to contact their specific user support tools.
