Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Transfer files from Ipod to new Computer

I lost the hard drive in old computer. Having trouble transfering files directly from ipod to new computer. Ipod is configured for windows. Old computer was windows XP, new computer is Windows Vista. Get transfer, but it is gibberish of some sort. I don't know what generation ipod. It is a video ipod with wheel and 30GB. It does say version 1.3 for itunes and model MA446LL. Any help?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Computer died - anyway to get songs from ipod to new computer

My computer died - the hard disk crashed and we have no access to any data on the computer. We have about 250 songs on the ipod - and have downloaded itunes on a new computer. The songs on the ipod are both songs that were purchased from itunes as well as songs from our personal CD collection.
Is there any way to get songs from the ipod to the new computer?

You can try a couple of third party software packages to sync from your Ipod back to your Windoze installation of Itunes. I've provided some links for you here:

    http://www.bootstrapdevelopment.com/ShowProduct.aspx?ID=13&gclid=CK6Q06Pvto0CFQZ iOAoddwKnMA
If these links don't work for you, just google IPOD to PC and you'll get the information to come up. I think these 3rd party conduits only run about $20. (Well worth the investment.) Good luck!

  • Old Hard drive crashed, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Thank bunches.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do you move photos from iPod to new computer?

Just got a new computer with Windows 7 (I think) after using an old (really old) one. All my photos are on my iPod and the FAQ says they can be moved from it to the new computer if I enabled disk use (which I did). But it doesn't say how to actually move them. Can anybody help?

1.Turn on your computer. Close any applications that might slow the photo transfer.
2.Connect your iPod to your computer with the cord that came with your iPod. Make sure you have turned on the iPod.
3.Open iTunes. Wait for iTunes to register that your iPod is connected. If the screen does not register that a connection, disconnect the iPod and try again.
4.Click on the "Photos" tab below your iPod on iTunes. Look through the photos stored on your iPod.
5.Drag photos from the photos folder on your iPod to the desktop. You may also drag these pictures to a photo editing application, like Photoshop or Photosmart. Move any other images from your iPod to your computer.

  • Downloading songs from iPOD to new computer

OK, seems like a common problem, yet all the FAQs and questions don't seem to get me where I need to go.
My first authorized computer is fritzed, can't access itunes, so I loaded new version of itunes onto my new computer and want to download all of my songs from my ipod onto the new itunes. All I seem to be able to download is the "purchased music". Since 75% of the songs on my ipod are from my CDs this doesn't quit do it for me.
I don't want to rerip all of my CDs onto my new computer (hours of work), I just want the songs from my ipod onto my computer.
Is there a way to do this?
When I open my ipod icon in "my computer" it only gives me 4 options of folders--calenders, notes, contacts and a text document-- no itunes music list to drag into "my music" folder.
    Somebody save me!

"OK, seems like a common problem"
It is, and it gets asked here on the iPod forums about 20 times a day!
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can't download music from iPod to new computer

My computer suddenly died and all I've got is an iPod loaded with music. Can anyone tell me how to download the music from the iPod to the computer? All I can find on Apple is how to do it with a working computer. Thanks.

Buy a 3rd-party ipod manager program - CopyTrans gets good reviews.
For the $20, it is probably worth it.

  • How to download songs from ipod to new computer

I lost my harddrive and my songs are still on my ipod. How do I download the songs from the ipod to the new harddrive.

iTunes is set up to only let iTunes Store purchases transfer from your iPod to your computer. You can do this by selecting Transfer Purchases From iPod in the File menu. But for any other other media not purchased from iTunes try SharePod. It's a free program that allows you to transfer music from your ipod to your computer.

As you may have already found out that while we can transfer music from iTunes to an iPod, we cannot transfer music from iPod to iTunes.
You need to move your music from your iPod to your new iTunes and one of the ways that you can do this is with the help of a third party software.
Please read [*_This Discussion Thread_*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and pay particular attention to the post from Zevoneer. In his post all available software is listed which you can use to accomplish what you want. Most of the software is free. Good Luck.

  • No backup and need to download music FROM ipod to new computer library

My computer crashed and I am on a new computer. I have no back up of my library. I want to upload my music FROM my ipod to my new computer's library. Any help?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.

If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
