Downloading HD movies

I have a Windows XP PC, an iPhone 5 and a 32GB iPad 4.  I'm thinking of adding an Apple TV and buying my future movies from the iTunes store -- at least for titles that aren't available on Blu-ray.  I noticed tonight that the iTunes store will not let me download HD content directly onto my PC, saying that I need a Windows 7 PC or Mac with HDCP components.  I can make HD purchases on my iPhone and iPad.  I don't want to take up space by storing too much video on either mobile device and would prefer to save the files on my PC's hard drive.  Is there a way that I can do this?  Can I make a purchase on my phone or iPad and then download it from the iCloud to my PC?  I don't plan on actually watching movies on my PC; I just want to use it for storage, prefering not to rely exclusively on iCloud.  Any tips?

Hey Rob724,
Thanks for the question. In order to purchase, rent, and view HD content from the iTunes Store on your computer, you will need to have components that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) installed; Windows XP and Vista do not support HDCP. You can read more about the system requirements and learn more about HD videos here:

If you're unable to download to your computer, the purchases you make on your iPhone and iPad will still be attached to your Apple ID. You can delete them from your iOS device to save space, and just re-download them if you want to view them again. You can read a bit more about that here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

David
