Downloading HDV as Timecode in stead of Scene?

I would like to download my clip by Timeco
se and not by scene recognitio. I
can delete whole clips without having to drag over
a large consolidate clip when ed
iting.

I cannot comment on PrE, but on the PrPro side of the street, many users love HDVSplit, and feel strongly that it is the Capture module, that Adobe should have incorporated into that program. I have not read of any complaints, and it seems that most users just flat love it.
What problems are cited, re: HDVSplit and Vegas?

  • Capturing HDV without Timecode

    I am using a JVC HD110 U capturing in HDV at 720p 24. For some reason, even though the timecodes are consecutive, Final Cut Studio is registering timecode breaks. Some of these are on cuts, but others are in the middle of takes.
    I know that if it were DV I could set the device to non-controllable and capture without timecode, but in HDV it won't let me set the device control to non-controllable.
    Is there anyway that I can capture HDV and ignore the time code on the tape?
    Thanks much,
    J. Cameron Brueckner

    Depending on that setting I either get the capture to stop in the middle or it continues and create a new clip. If I let it run, I loose a few seconds in the middle of the take. If I set the preroll to 1 sec, I can get the lost time down to 3 sec, but since it happens in the middle of takes not just at cuts, it is still a problem that I am loosing 3 seconds (2 while it searches for media and 1 for preroll).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks much.

  • Capturing continuous HDV over timecode breaks

    Hello! I hope someone out there can assist me - I've been searching google and doing some trial and error, but cannot find a solution.
    I have HDV video that I'm trying to capture into FCP 7. The footage has timecode breaks in it, some longer than others. I'd love to FCP to just gloss over them, ala capturing DV footage, but it seems it cannot.
    Re-recording is not an option as the client doesn't want to pay for the additional work. The capture itself is a byproduct of the videographer not remembering to compress live on site.
    Thanks for any help you might have!
    Additional info - capturing to a FW800 drive, Macbook Pro 2.2 i7 with 16GB ram - HDV coming from Sony HVR 1500
    Thank you!

    Can you get your hands on the same make and model camcorder that the footage was shot on?  I know this was suggested in a prior post and you said that you can't get the camera.  But, if you can rent a Sony HVR 1500 (I'm assuming it's a rental), can't you rent the same camera that it was shot in?  It's not uncommon to sometimes have to capture from the same device that was used to shoot the video in the first place.
    The drop frame error that you linked does not result from non-continuous time code.
    Also, the free run time code setting on the deck affects where it looks for tc source when recording (it doesn't affect tc during playback of a recorded tape).
    Based on everything in this forum so far, I'd suggest you go with Michael's suggestion and get a Blackmagic Decklink card (assuming that your computer can accomodate one).  Patching the SD-HDI out of the deck to the SD-HDI input of the Blackmagic Decklink should do the trick.  If you have something with HDMI out on it that can play the tape, you can go with Blackmagic's more affordable Intensity product that has HDMI in.
    Plan C would be to rent or buy a HD field recorder and patch the video out of the deck to the video in of the field recorder.  As long as the tape plays, you should be able to get it across.
    Good luck!

  • The theme/background (AWESOME futuristic space scene) shown in the last part of "Getting Started video available for download?

    In the last part of the video "Getting Started" right after I downloaded Firefox 4, there was a background scene of an awesome page that showed some futuristic space scene that has the mozilla theme (fox) in the picture. I would like to know if it is available for download and/or it's name. I searched through the themes, but they don't show enough of the theme to actually see what the background would be once downloaded. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Auto scene cutting on already batched material?

    During batching, one can check a box to get the batched video clips divided into scenes (ie. the cuts one had during recording).
    Is there a function to do this with already batched material, say with only a section of material? I do this a lot manually in order to get a full overview of my things, and I'd like to save manual cutting time.
    Chris Engelbrecht, Copenhagen

    I presume you are talking about DV as Premiere does not provide HDV scene detect. There is a reasonably priced, stand-alone program called Scenalyzer that will chop your captured video files into clips using either timecode changes or optical scene change detection.

  • I can only import HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec!!!!

    Hello,
    I want to get to the bottom of this. I have HDV film shot on a DV tape. I cannot import this HDV footage, it appears to be importing, but the moment I hit "escape" to stop capture, I realize nothing was actually importing. I usually end up with a second of captured footage, ironically, it's of the second that I stopped capture on. So I capture my last second.
    Of course, if I change my setting to Apple Intermediate Codec, it works fine.
    I'm using Final Cut Pro 5 on a G5 that hasn't been online in a while. Maybe I just need some 'updates?"
    Or is this a Final Cut Pro 5 issue since it came out when HDV was relatively new on the scene?
    Should I upgrade to Final Cut Pro 6, cut that make importing HDV easier for me?
    This footage I don't mind converting to Intermediate Codec, but in the future I'd like to not have to do this.
    Anyone know what causes this?
    Thanks!

    You should be able to do it fine in 5.0 as well as 5.1.
    I have been capturing HDV since August of 2006, long before FCP 6. Make sure you use a camera that is supported, for HDV is not a standard the way DV is. It is MPEG 2 out of the box. So when you capture you are in for a bit of a ride editing HDV on FCP 5. It can be done, but you are better to take a page from Shane's book and capture to DVCPro HD instead. It takes up much more space, but you will have no headache editing and outputting later.
    Hope this helps.

  • FX 1.0 Scene Builder beta samples won't run in Netbeans

    Hi,
    I downloaded samples that are added to JavaFX Scene Builder from: http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/javafx_scenebuilder/1.0/javafx_scenebuilder_samples-1_0-beta-b32-26_mar_2012.zip
    I imported it to netbeans ide and then I tried to run project, when I came across problem:
    com.sun.javafx.fxml.PropertyNotFoundException: Property "styleClass" does not exist or is read-only.
    Could you help me with this issue?

    Same problem for me...with Fx 2.0.3 (didn't try 2.1.0 beta)
    Solved this way in fxml file:
    (...some code...)
    <Button id="buttonSearch" contentDisplay="GRAPHIC_ONLY" maxHeight="32.0" maxWidth="32.0" minHeight="32.0" minWidth="32.0" prefHeight="32.0" prefWidth="32.0" AnchorPane.bottomAnchor="6.0" AnchorPane.rightAnchor="114.0" >
    <styleClass>
    <String fx:value="buttonSearch"/>
    </styleClass>
    </Button>
    (...some code...)
    and in css file:
    .buttonSearch {
         -fx-graphic: url("images/question.png");
         -fx-content-display: graphic-only;
    I load the css file in my main():
    stage.getScene().getStylesheets().add("MyApplication/test.css");
    just before stage.show();
    Edit:
    With the 2.1.0 developper preview there's no exception using styleClass()...

  • Sync based on timecode

    hello everybody,
    i'll tell you about my project:
    we are shooting a documentary with two HDV cams. timecode was set in free run mode starting simultaneously in both cams, so that timecode keeps running even if the cam isn't recording. in that way, i presume, i can synchronize cameras easily.
    i captured this footage through premiere cs4, but i cannot seem to find the timecode embedded in tape.
    if i cannot get this to work i'm screwed... i'll have to manually syncronize around 22 hours of footage....
    i hope i made myself clear, please don't hesitate contacting me if you need further info
    thanks in advance

    I "thought" that premiere will see the TC of HDV but it has been a while since I have used it.  There is a way to tell Premiere to use the device timecode or to start each clip at 00;00;00;00.  I am not at my machine right now so I cannot give you the exact path but I think that it is under Edit, Preferences, Media.  From there you can select to use device TC.  I would double check that it is set that way.
    I am having the Same problem with AVCHD right now.  Every clip starts at 00;00;00;00.  Premiere for some reason does not see the TC and it is VERY frustrating.
    Now that I am thinking about it I had a problem onetime where while I was capturing video with Premiere it was showing the correct TC in the bottom left corner of the screen BUT after the capter the clip started at 00;00;00;00.  That may have been with HDV, I just cannot remember.
    I mostly do Wedding and other events so TC does not usually make a big difference, but this was a long Corporate project with Multiple cameras and of course the first time I actually wanted to use TC I could not get it to work.
    Let us know if you get it figured out...

  • Can Lync messages store at local in stead of on server?

    Hi All,
    Lync is convenient and helpful to communicate inside company.
    I used to keep old messages since they might contain some useful information,
    but as time goes by, old messages become more and more, and they occupies limited quota on Exchange server.
    Is it possible to let Lync store messages store (or maybe download) to local computer in stead of on Exchange server?
    Thanks.
    Ming-Hung.Hung

    You could do this by exporting the folder from Outlook to a PST, or adding a PST file and dragging and dropping old conversations into it locally.

  • Premiere Elements capturing video in one piece instead of clips

    I am saving all of my old SVHS tapes to the computer using an ADVC-55 capture card via fire wire and Premiere Elements 12
    When the video has captured the entire tape and I go to view, I have noticed that It would save the captured video in clips and other times the full video with no clips.
    I have clicked on the radio button to save the captured video as clips.
    To be honest, I am not entirely sure what Premiere elements does when it captures the clip.
    I know it saves the whole tape as and .avi file - the file size is about 9.5GB
    it does seem a bit hit and miss and I am quite new to the program.
    Can anyone explain where I am going wrong.
    many thanks

    What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on?
    What are your Capture settings?
    Generalizing....miniDV camcorder....
    If you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Windows Capture Window, you have the option to capture
    a. the whole as DV AVI standard or widescreen, depending on how recorded
    or
    b. Split Scenes...under Split Scenes, you have the option of by Timecode or by Content. Then you end up with DV AVI standard or DV AVI widescreen clips.
    If you are doing HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Windows Capture Window, your options
    a. the whole as MPEG2.mpeg
    or
    b. Split Scenes...under Split Scenes, ONLY by Content, not by Timecode. Then you end up with MPEG2.mpeg clips as many MPEG2.mpeg clips as can be detected on a Content basis.
    If I recall, VHS does not have Timecode, so the Split Scenes by Timecode would not be an option and you would be dealing with DV data capture firewire with the DV AVI standard output. What does your Capture Window set show for Split Clips, Content? If so, it might be that the program is not able to analyze and detect scenes in some while it can in others.
    More later.

  • Basic questions about Premiere Elements 8

    I'm new to this forum and although I use Photoshop Elements extensively, I am just trialling Premiere Elements 8. I have a number of questions from my (very limited) testing so far:
    1. Most of the videos that I download from my Sony DCR-DVD110 DVDs behave fine, but one of them only has half an audio track. The full audio was there on the DVD, but in the project it appears that the second half of the audio has been moved to overlay the first half, instead of following on. The video format is VOB. Has anyone else had this problem, or could suggest how it can be remedied?
    2. I understand from the help that I can split incoming video from a DV camcorder using the timecode on the tape. However, I do not seem to get the same option when downloading from DVD as above. The scene-splitter in the project list only allows content detection (which is unreliable), or regular divisions. Does anyone know if there a timecode on the VOB files, and is there a way of using this to split video into clips that is more reliable than scene detection?
    3. I do not understand the red/green line that appears under the Timeline ruler, just above the video. In one project, I have cleared clips out of the timeline and copied new ones in. The green or red line no longer changes at clip boundaries. Where it is green, the clip audio plays back, but not the video. Where it is red, both play. I do not seem to be able to find out what this means, let alone how to change it, and do not know how I set it in the first place. Does anyone know what this coloured line means, and how to change it so that all of the clips play both audio and video?
    4. When I start the program from the Welcome Screen, it gives me the option of opening an old project. Even though I select the project that I wish to open, this does not happen. Premiere Elements 8 starts, but the project does not load. Is this just a limitation of the trial version, or a common problem? Can I skip the Welcome screen and go straight into Premiere Elements 8?
    I'm looking to buy Premiere Elements 8 along with an upgrade to Photoshop Elements 8, for the compatibility and common file organiser, but so far the above problems are putting me off a purchase. The programme also does not seem to be as intuitive as Studio 7, which was the last video editing software that I used (some years ago, taking data from a DV camcorder).
    Your help and any recommendations that you may be able to add would be most welcome.

    Virtually all of your problems are related to your trying to edit video from a DVD camcorder. Although the program is supposed to be able to work with these video files, they can be very problematic if your computer's operating system is not fully updated, you lack the current version of Quicktime and you do not have the proper codecs installed.
    The red lines you're seeing above your video on the timeline are indications of this. These are indications that your video needs to be rendered by the program in order for the program to work with it.
    If you'd like to try to work with DVD cam video despite these liabilities, there are things you can do to improve performance somewhat.The FAQs to the right of this forum explain how and why.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
    But I recommend you convert your VOB files to DV-AVIs before you bring them into Premiere Elements. This will likely remedy nearly all of your problems (assuming your computer's hardware and software are up to the necessary specs and are fully updated).

  • Problems capturing Video

    I attach my camcorder ( Canon VIXIA HV40 ) and click on the Cature HDV . Screen opens up and my camera is found and I can start and stop it through the appropriate controls. The program begins to capture my movie but I cannot see the movie on the computer screen. The movie is being captured because the clip is showing up in the clip folder but I cannot see the movie in the Preview window.
    Also, I am not given the option to capture the Movie by Timecode but ONLY by scene.
    I capture about 2 minutes of film and then stop the Capture. The Start Auto Analyzer box appears but nothing happens. I wait several minutes but nothing happens.
    When I quit the application and check the captured movie files they are in MPEG format and not MOV format and will not play back on Quicktime.
    Can someone provide help????

    I use HDV camcorder (Sony HC9E) and an old DV one, with PC and Mac.
    The specs of PRE indicate you have no preview when capturing HDV, although
    this preview is working when you capture DV. You will find this in the help
    or if you buy a book on the software.
    Time code separation is not possible on HDV with PRE, even if it works with iMovie on Mac.
    Where iMovie too is able to preview HDV.
    On my PC, the capture with PRE generates MPEG files, as on Mac : I think MPEG is a choice
    of the editor.
      Unfortunately, as you mention, you can't with iMovie/Mac accept MPEG input, this imposes
    a second capture.
    A solution to solve this is to capture with iMovie, and I think PRE is able to accept the mov
    files as an input. (I will probably test HDVSplit as Bill recommand).
      As I see in France, the standard system for video is not really in place. But we have to say it is
    because every new standard (AVCHD by example) brings better quality.
    Good luck.

  • From PP to Encore I lose audio

    When moving from PP to Encore I, as aparently hundreds, most likely thousands, of other folks have experienced, lose the audio portion of my project. Sometimes I will get only the first part. Here are some points to consider:
    1. Many threads have spoken of leaving the Encore more time to process. I have left mine for an entire day. If that is not enough time??
    2. I am importing from a Sony video camera VX2000 NTSC I am processing standard DVs NOT HD NOT Blu Ray. 720X480 29.97fps
    3. I am NOT a knowledgeable video editor I make rocking chairs and teach people how to make them - www.rockingchairuniversity.com I do my own websites, write books and edit videos in order to support my students. If Adobe supported their customers as well as I support mine I would NOT be on this forum now!
    4. I have spent the better part of the last four days working on this problem. At one point I envoked Audition from PP and was able to convert the entire audio to MONO. Within Audition I selected the audio with control C, went back to PP and pasted it to an open audio channel, muted the original tracks and then processing in Encore went quite well. (could have been a dream) BUT I do not recall what I did in Audition to accomplish said task.

    This morning I am starting from scratch:
    New project:
         Video rendering and playback
              Mercury playback engine software only (can not change)
         Video
              Display format
                   Timecode
         Audio
              Display format
                   Audio Samples
         Capture
              Capture format
                   DV
    New Sequence
         Sequence presets:
              DV NTSC
                   Standard 48khz
    When downloading video from Sony VX2000 I used "scene detect" and ended up with about 80, on average, clips per one hour tape. I am loading two or three of these "clips" into this project for testing. Total sequence length, maybe three minutes.
    Some of the data from my "sequence settings" are:
         Display format: 30fps drop frame timecode
         Audio 48khz
         Display format: Audio samples
         Preview file format:  NTSC DV
         Codec DV NTSC
    Max bit depth not selected and Maximum render not selected.
    In "preferences" I have:
         Audio:
         5.1 mixdown type: Front + Rear
         Mono media: Adaptive
         Stereo Media: Adaptive
         5.1 Media: Adaptive
         Multichannel Mono Media: Adaptive (I changed to adaptive because Adobe was changing my voice overs to "chipmunk mode"
    Then I select "file" and "import" and select two or three of my clips from the "sony capture".
    Now I have four clips in my project window, "Project: test"
    I double click to move to my edit window and then drag them to my timeline (sequence 01)
    I now have about a minute and a half of video plus audio.
                   I see something I have not noticed before  --  On my audio 1 track I see some tiny boxes on the far right and when I hover over them they say "channel output mapping" It is setup for input 1 > output 1 and input 2 > output 2
    I click "file" > "Adobe Dynamic Link" > "Send to Encore"
         in Encore:
              Project settings:
                   Authoring mode: DVD
                   Television Standard: NTSC
                   Transcode Settings: Codec: MPEG-2 Dimensions 720X480: Frame Rate 29.97;
                                                 Fields: Lower Field First
                                                 Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby Digital
                                                 Maximum Audio/Video bitrate: 8Mbps
    I click "OK"
    Thirty seconds or so later Encore opens with my video showing. I press play and I hear audio for approximately 1 or two seconds. 15 minutes later I still hear audio for one or two seconds. (it stops in exactly the same place)
    I happen to have two machines on my desk, both less than two weeks old. An HP Pavillion with 6Gb memory a fast processor and a 1.5Tb hard drive with nothing on it except my Adobe programs. The other is an Acer with 10Gb memory and a 2Tb hard drive with nothing on it but my Adobe programs. This operation was conducted on my Acer. I will now execute exactly the same sequence of operations using exactly the same clips on my HP Pavilion and will report back.

    In Firefox I can download pdf-files and then open them. There is a choice to open pdf-files directly in Firefox but the problem is that the pdf-reader program is set to Adobe Reader 6.0 (standard). This program can´t open most of the pdf-files.
    How to change from Adobe Reader6.0 to another pdf-reading program?
    Thanks in advance
    Jafo

    Thank you. That works well for files that are already on the computer. My issue is with PDF files that are attachments, not yet downloaded, in Safari and Firefox. When they are downloaded, they do open properly with Preview. My need is to open them automatically from attachment rather than download (as one step) and opening with Preview (second step). Tiger offered the option to open the file and view immediately upon selecting the attachment (or at least, I was able to do it in Tiger). Of course, it did download it, but that was behind the scenes. From my perspective, you click on the attachment and Preview opens up with the file. Any ideas?
