Downloading images in Mail messages

What can I do to see images is mail that are shown only by the box with the Question mark in it? I find it frustrating as some of the images are important to the particular message. Thanks for any advice.

Greetings,
You've posted in the Leopard forum, even though you're running Snow Leopard. You need to pay closer attention to be sure you're posting in the correct forum for the OS you're running. I will have the moderators move it.
What can do to get the images to move again in [M]ail.
You can't. The ability to see moving .gif images in Mail was removed in Leopard, without any notice by Apple. You can send them to others, but you won't see them move if they are sent to you.

I have an image that has come to me in an email. It cannot be opened as it has the blue boxed question mark in a blank space. How can I download this image, as is, onto my desktop? (Control > Download Image does nothing.)
I have Graphic Converter, and there is a good chance that I can see the image once downloaded.

    Gordon,
You may not be understanding what I said, and a chain email is a very likely candidate for an image being linked to rather than attached, and you would not see the link itself.
In Mail Preferences/Viewing what is selected with regard to "Display remote images in HTML messages"?
Also, if the server where the linked to image resides is not available at the moment, the blue box would be the result.

  • Inserting Remote Image In Mail Message?

    Hi,
Is it possible to link to a Remote Image in an Apple Mail Message and have it load within the e-mail? What I mean is, can you link to a photo on a site like Flickr, and have the image display within the e-mail, rather than just the text link?

this is possible but you have to jump through hoops to do it which personally strikes me as completely ridiculous.
the only way I know how to achieve this is the following.
make an html document using your favorite html editor and insert a remote pic in it.
then open this file in safari and enter command+i. this page will be opened in a new outgoing mail message and you can mail it.
I would be delighted to know if there is an easier way to do this.

  • Images in Mail messages NOT moving

I used to have messages with .gif images show the movement in the message window. Now when I check my email and it has an image which is supposed to wave, or walk, etc. there is no movement unless I drag it to the desktop and open it in preview, but then it only shows a set of images which will move if you click through them fast enough.
What can do to get the images to move again in mail.

  • How do i download images from mail?

How can i download or save to phone images from a email?
how do i do it on an attached image and one that is just in the email message itself?
    Thanks so much

    Not possible.
The iPhone does not support saving email attachments outside of the received message.
If you want a photo attached to a received message available on the iPhone for viewing outside of the received message, and you are accessing the same account with an email client on your computer (or you can do the same via webmail access using a browser), save the photo outside of the received message on your computer, and then transfer the photo along with other photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.

  • Problems attaching scanned jpg images to mail messages

We are having issues attaching scanned images from a Epson SX600FW all in one printer/scanner/fax machine into mail on my dad's MacBook.
Basically if I attach a jpeg from any other source (internet or digital camera) to a message, they attach ok but if I attach a file from this printer Mail stops responding and the rotating ball comes up.
The odd thing is if I attach a file from another source first and then an image from the printer it attaches fine but if I only attach a file from the printer Mail hangs.
    Any ideas anyone ?

Many times you need Photo Software. This allows your Photo's to be .jpg Format then you can copy and paste, or Drag and Drop. The  Key is the Format of your photos. Many Cameras and other periphials make there scans and photo's .jpg format by default.  If you do not have the software here is a Free on that is comparible too Adobe's Photoshop.

  • Mail 7.3 (1878.6) not displaying images in random messages.

In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that, with no preference changes made by me, that random messages are not displaying images only empty boxes with the small blue question-mark box in the middle. This is almost exclusively from companies and organizations that I'm interested in.
I've made no changes with regard to messages downloading with my mail in Mail's preferences. If I had, I'd think that ALL such messages would behave the same.

Nothing happens. Loading remote content is a Mail preference for me for everything. Best I can do is choose to click the "if your having trouble seeing this..." offered by many advertisers to take you to their site.
Since it's random, I wonder if it's not something that has to do with those specific servers sending those messages. And it's only a few, but enough to be annoying. These are people I've received perfect content from for years in some cases. No changes have been made to my preferences.

  • Help Please: Unable to download images in e-mail

    Hi,
I am a new Blackberry user and I recently purchased a new Blackberry 8900 on T-mobile (USA). I am having a number of issues with e-mail.  I am using a Blackberry Enterprise Server to connect to my personal e-mail which is hosted by the third party Microsoft Exchange hosting company.
Basically, I am able to receive e-mails but even though I have the settings set to "Yes" for both HTML E-mail and Download Images Automatically, when I open HTML e-mails, no images are displayed.  To make matters even worse, when I open the menu and select "Get Images", they STILL do not download, even though I see the "arrow" icon on the top right corner.  I have no idea why this is happening.  I have tried rebooting and I have called T-mobile Tech Support, which is useless.  They just tell me to reinstall the phone's software, which I don't think will help.
I am also have one other more minor issue.  When my device first synched with my Exchange Accountallmye-mail came across but only the headers were downloaded. This is not an issue for any new messages I receive, just for the ones that were synched initially. The auto more feature was and is still turned on.
PLEASE HELP... I am desperate to solve these issues, or I think I am going to return the phone and just go back to my T-mobile Dash, which had none of these issues, despite it's shortcomings.
    Thanks,
    Matt.

  • Display problems in Mail messages with image attachment

Issue: Seeing intermittent display problems in Mail messages with image attachments
Annoyance level: minor, but Apple techs need to pass it along
Details: Regardless of mail client sending to iPhone (Outlook, OWA, Yahoo, Gmail) there are intermittent and what appear to be random occurrances of the pic being half rendered and/or the pic never loading (followed by message saying it can't be retrieved from server). In some instances the picture then appears fully rendered without a problem. Note: Image sizes varied from 14KB to 450KB

    Hi,
I'm not familiar with C#, but if possible try the following:
    1. Removing all thead and tbody tags from the body of the message.
    2. Changing all inline CSS to embedded CSS.
I've seen a user said the message stopped showing up after making the changes.
If the issue persists, please note, since Outlook 2007, Outlook opens the HTML Email and converts it to Microsoft Word format before displaying it to the user. What happens during this process is that many CSS attributes and HTML support is completely removed.
Some of the most notable absences are background-image, and padding and margin support. Hardly can we do much about this, so the message "If there are problems with how this email is displayed, click here to view it in a web browser" is actually
a good workaround when we face this problem.

  • Download images in HTML mail

I have my HTML mail set to not download images automatically, and it's always worked fine... load the email to begin with, BB key > Load images > wait a few seconds > eureka, email and images all download.
Since approx 36hours now, this has stopped working. I've tried a few reboots, hopped between mobile-network & WiFi connections, sent new HTML mails, toggled the various options off/on.. alas it's totally random but has stopped reliably working... Now, it works for a little while but then "load images" option has precisely no effect. The only consistent factor that is always involved is, I guess, BIS.
I appreciate this might need formally reporting to my network, but... anyone else having similar problems? Email send/receive & internet browsing (with images) all absolutely fine...

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

In Mail 3.6 remote images in HTML messages display as blue squares with ? even though checked in viewing references.

    Nurit,
The point is that that button should not be there, if the preference setting is as you say. This indicates the preference setting is stuck, and that is what I was trying to help you resolve.
The full purge is done as follows:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder. Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and when prompted to import anything DECLINE. Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well, after setting preferences as you desire.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted.

  • How to set iPhone so Mail messages in inbox disappear after being downloaded to Mail on my MacBook Pro

    Hi -
Previously, the Mail settings on my iPhone and MacBook Pro were set exactly as I wanted them to be: If I opened a Mail message on my phone, it stayed in the inbox only until I opened the Mail App on my MacBook Pro, at which time it downloaded onto the notebook and disappeared from the iPhone.  This is how I want it, as I have no need for duplicate emails in multiple locations.
I recently had to reformat the hard drive on the MascBook Pro and reinstall all the software and data.  Unfortunately, I was not able to save the Mail preferences, and now my Mail App works differently: Mail messages remain on both the iPhone and the Mac, and if I delete a message on one device it also disappears from the other.
Can anyone help me to figure out how to get the settings and preferences back to the way they were originally?  Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
    Shelly

Are you using Mac Mail - the icon that looks like a stamp?
If yes, you can create Mailboxes. (click on Mailbox in the menu bar and select New Mailbox...) These are folders and are visible in Mail.
You store the mail you wish to archive in appropriate folders.

  • How do i stop Mail from downloading all my old messages without deleting them

    Hello there,
i've just bought a new 13 inch macbook pro, and i'm very happy with it. Being sort of new to apple i still have some problems though.
the main one concerns mail:   How do I prevent my laptop from downloading thousands of old messages i had stored on my gmail account?
let me be clearer: i set mail up and it instantly started downloading tons of old messages that i don't want stored on my mac, since it only has 128gb storage, but i'd still like to be able to look for them in case I needed to.  so i don't want to permanently erase them, get rid of them here to save some space.
is that possible? and if yes how?
I also have an other problem with Mail and it's the fact that gmail doesn't let me send pages files...it says it could be a dangerous file so it stops me.
    any solutions?
    thanks to all of you

    System Preferences -> iCloud
    uncheck Mail
The OP is using Gmail, not iCloud.
How do I prevent my laptop from downloading thousands of old messages i had stored on my gmail account?
Unchecking Mail will do nothing at all.
And as Gmail is an Imap account it will download all mail in the account to the client.
If this is unwanted behaviour use a different email system (a POP system) or remove the mail from the Gmail server.
Gmail  can be configured as POP or IMAP

  • How to disable message images in Mail app for all but contacts?

I use the Mail app for OS X Mavericks and have been inundated with spam lately. I understand that spam email campaigns can confirm that you have opened their mail (and subsequently continue to send you mail) by image tracking so I would like to disable images from showing for all except my contacts. I don't recall if it was with Mail or another email client I previously used, but I vaguely remember message images not showing by default and requiring you to click a button at the top of the message in order to show the images within it. If possible, I would like to be able to do this for non-contacts.
So my question is: how can I disable images from showing, by default, in messages from non-contacts within the Mail app?
If there is no way to do this, can someone suggest an alternative email client for Mac OS that does allow this? I am willing to change if this feature does not exist within the Mail app.
    Thanks for your time.

Personally, I've never heard of spammers tracking by a contact's image. I think you might be confusing this with the images in the message.
Spammers can do two things to track you.
    1) Send an email with a read receipt. Mail doesn't support read receipts
    2) Send an email with an embedded image (sometimes called a bug or beacon). When the email is opened, the email software loads the image from the remote server by sending it an HTTP request.
If a message matches the junk mail criteria, then a bar will appear near the top of the message. External images in the message will automatically be disabled, so that spam authors won’t be able to track if you’ve opened the message. To load the images, click the “Load Images” button in the bar, or to mark the message as not junk, select “Not Junk.”
Mail > Preferences > Viewing >Uncheck Display remote images in HTML messages.
Enable Junk filtering in Mail Preferences. Check "sender in in contacts, sender in in previous recipients**, message is addressed using full name.
Use SpamSieve, third party product to filter spam, http://c-command.com/spamsieve/
Keep contacts in your Address Book.
Mark messages as junk to help train the junk filter.
Don't open a message you think is spam. You should be able to see enough of a message in the preview to know if it's spam.
** Open Previous Recipients under Window in the Menu bar. Remove any addresses from spammers.
