Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
1. are you using Safari? Then first off -Safari Menu -> Preferences -> General: Disable 'Open Safe Files after Downloading'
That means nothing will happen automatically.
2. Then, after downloading a file, select it (click on it once) and go File -> Get Info. In the Get Info Window, find the 'Open WIth..' Pane and select your preferred app from the dropdown menu.

    2. I can no longer start Internet Explorer 8

  • How download videos from web?

    Hello
    I would like to download videos from web, exactelly from facebook pages, but i'm not able, who can help me?

    If they are flash video then there a many flash video downloaders.  Do a search for "video download" on macupdate.com and you will find manu of them.
    Many are specific to downloading youtube stuff.  Others are more general.  However, one of the most general (and overpriced) flash downloaders is Jaksta.
    If the videos aren't flash, that's more of a problem, and may be specific to the kind of video it is and whether it can be downloaded.  Some sites protect against this being done.

  • How to download movies from web with Quicktime Pro

    How do I download movies to my harddrive from youtube and google video. Have quicktime pro, but I don't see down arrow when I watch a movie on the web. There is gotta be a way to this for a Mac. Somebody explain it to me, please....

    Quicktime can't download videos from youtube. Youtube videos aren't quicktime videos they are flash flv's videos.
    There's a few ways to download youtube videos:
    Wail you have the youtube page open that has a video you want to download you open Safari's activity window and look for the flv's url (usually the largest file). Copy that url into Safari's download manager...
    Or a much simpler way is to download MPEG-Streamclip, free. Copy the url of the youtube page into MPEG-Streamclip "Get URL" done...faster. You can either download the flv or mpg-4 (better quality than the flv) video from youtube using MPEG-streamclip.
    Here's M{EG-Streammclip down page http://www.squared5.com/
    As for Goggle there a download button on the right hand side of the Google web page.

  • Errors when downloading files from web sites

    I cannot download files from Firefox anymore on my home computer. I click on the download link and it takes me to another page that is blank. I can download just fine w/o any problems from my work computer, download box/window appears just fine. I'm using the same Windows 7, Firefox 8.0 program and same website that gives me the error message from my home computer. Is there a pop-up blocker, cookie or plug-in that I need to turn off/on? How do I enable downloads so I can save to my home computer?

    Clear cache and cookies and try again. Also, check your firewall permissions for Firefox 8

  • Cannot download files from web sites using 4.0, and slower. Do I need to prep my Mac in any way prior to installing 4.0?

    I use browser to grab small game programs off various websites, which then run on apps I have installed. When I attempt to download these files in version 4, I get an "unknown error has occurred" pop-up, & no file. This has not been an issue w/previous version.
    Am I required to change any system prefs after installing 4.0? I have de-installed and gone back to previous system until I know what the issue is... odd, all other upgrade installs have been easy and simple.
    4.0 also runs notably slower.
    thx/ASAubry

  • Am trying to install CS6 on my new MacBook Pro. Downloaded installer from web. Ran installer, got a dialog asking me to "Please close these applications to continue:..." There were two items on the list: Safari

    "Please close these applications to continue:..." There were two items on the list: Safari & SafariNotificati (sic). I closed Safari, no problem. But could not find SafariNotifications.
    What I have done so far:
    Opened "Force Quit" and the only applications listed as open now are "Finder" and "Adobe Application Manager".
    Pressed "Continue" on the "Please close..." dialoge
    Still asks me to close SafariNotificati
    Opened Safari
    Opened Safari Preferences > Notifications Tab
    There are no notifications listed. The list is blank.
    Closed Safari again.
    Checked Force Quit again (once again the only applications listed are "Finder" and "Adobe Application Manager"
    Once again if I try to move on with the install by clicking on the "Continue" button Adobe asks me to close SafariNotificati
    What should I do now?

  • Can't download .pdfs from web - Standard

    Have standard 7.0 and it worked fine for years but recently it will not download pdf files from the web.  Locks up IE and Mozilla when I try.  Opens pdf's fine from local drive just a problem with the web downloads.  Removed and reloaded Acrobat 7.0.  No change.  Downloaded ActiveX control - no change.  Any ideas out there????

    What version of Acrobat 7. Hopefully not 7.0.0 since there were many bug fixes. What version of Windows? What service packs? What version of MSIE? What version of Mozilla? Were there any recent Windows updates that you installed prior to things going wonky? Also, if running Windows XP, what firewall software and what virus protection?

  • Can someone download photos from web gallery?

    Can someone download individual photos from my web gallery? I am posting about 40 photos in the web gallery.I want people that visit to be able to download the photos they want. I tried it and it is set to download the entire album compressed. The visitors probably will only want 1 photo. Maybe there is a better application for this type of use.
    I am new to this and any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Yes, individual photos can be downloaded. Looks like you already have the Allow Downloading setting on since the entire album (compressed) is available.
    If a visitor clicks on any thumbnail in an album, and loads the corresponding screen-sized photo, each photo has a little toolbar that fades in at the bottom where a down-pointing arrow is the button to download the individual photo. This will be the (up to) 6 megapixel-sized photo and not the screen-sized one.

  • Documents won't download completely from web site

    Documents attempting to download from my insurer's website won't complete. Document loads partially in the Adobe window that opens, but a circular stats bar opens in the second page and the document won't finish.

    The documents in question are my monthly insurance statement from USAA. I have always been able to download them before with no difficulty. I installed the latest update to Adobe Acrobat Reader, but still no luck. The document appeared only partially, but froze. I assumed the document from USAA was corrupted until I logged in using Google Chrome and the problem disappeared. Probably will use that browser going forward unless I can hear something that explains this.
    Thanks for the offered assistance.

  • User download files from web site

    I have files I want to allow users to download from my site.
    Problem is that I just don't know how to do that. And does
    Dreamweaver make that it possible?

    Deja vu all over again...
    To force a download without using Zip files, you will need to
    run a server
    side script - the flavor depends on which programming
    languages your server
    supports.
    This one uses php.
    http://elouai.com/force-download.php
    Otherwise, search www.HotScripts.com for other Forced
    Download scripts that
    will work on your server.

  • Rosetta Download - install from DVD won't work due to software updates!

    I need Rosetta for an ATO Australian Tax Digital Certificate... Using the SL install disk says" installation may not work check the latest combo download" The only apple combos I can see are for 10.4 / 10.5
    I need Rosetta urgently - how do I install it? No when I run the CSI (ATO) program it does NOT ask me to install Rosetta - it just doesn't run. Rosetta is not installed.
    Please help!

    bonzabuy wrote:

    I tried reinstalling Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD on a Mac updated to 10.6.1. I did not get a message saying "installation may not work." Instead I got a notification that "the installation was completed successfully," with the following advisory:
    "You may have installed Mac OS X software that is older than your current version of Mac OS X, and may not work properly. To ensure the best experience please download and install the latest version of the Mac OS X Combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/. You should do this even if you currently have the latest Mac OS X update installed."
    I assume that the advisory was triggered by the OS version being greater than 10.6 to "future proof" this DVD, & eventually there will be some Snow Leopard Combo updates.
    Anyway, the important part is that currently, there appears to be only one version of Rosetta for Snow Leopard available, & it is installed successfully by this procedure (if it wasn't already installed, which it probably already was).
    I think that your problem with the CSI (ATO) program may be elsewhere, since from what I can tell it is a Java application meant to run inside a browser. See http://www.ato.gov.au/help/bp/printcontent.asp?doc=/content/help/bp/32902.htm for more about this.

    Below is the doGet method, which is called from another servlet, with all the html stuff. i've taken out some parts of the code since its of no relevance.
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
                                       throws ServletException, IOException {
    try{
         log (" ENTERED DOGET IN LECTURE!!!!");
              res.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
    Enumeration values = req.getParameterNames();
              //while(values.hasMoreElements()) {
                   String name = (String)values.nextElement();
                   String value = (req.getParameterValues(name)[0]);
    if(name.compareTo("submit") != 0) {
    if (value.equals("Enter/Edit")) {
    out.println("<A HREF=records.xls>Download Attendance Records</A>");//TO DOWNLOAD FILE
         catch(SQLException e) {
