Downloading & installing Oracle 10g
I have Downloaded Oracle 10g about 4 times, when i try 2 install it it gives me error message " Error reading setup initialisation file". How do i overcome this? I am new with Oracle i dont know if the problem is with the "setup file" or with my PC I am running XP sp2 pentium 4 processor 500 MB of Ram, 80 gig hard drive
It looks like your setup disks are corrupt. It
should just start the Oracle Universal Installer.
Before any new attempt to download, verify that the
zip file is correct. If you are using the regular
winzip, you may check the file using the Shift-T
keyword combination, or if you are using zip.exe, you
may verify it with
unzip -T zipfile
Let me know.Sorry 4 taking sometime 2 respond, i was trying 2 redo everything againg, even downloading!!... I checked the file size from oracle site and file sizes that i downloaded they are not equal. My downloads are not in zip files but just the setup file. can this be the problem? also there is a pause during down load. The download starts well then there is a long pause, i dont know why, else everything downloads easily and quickly.

Installing Oracle 10g release 2 on RHEL4
I am new with Linux and Oracle, and I have been assigned to install Oracle 10g Rel 2 in RHEL4 OS.
I have checked and installed missing RPM's and created group users, passwd, configered Kernel, set Shell limits and finally created directories on root as so,
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
chown -R oracle:oinstall/u01/app/oracle
chmod -R 775 /u01/app/oracle
After, I mount the CD on root
mount /media/cdrom
After mounting is complete i enter into oracle user and do the following
su - oracle
cd /media/cdrom
./runInstaller
However, I receive the following message : Olite installation requires ORACLE_HOME to be set. PLease set it and retry again.
So I set the following like so,
export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle
export ORACLE_SID= demo1
./runInstaller
I than get the following message.
Olite installation requires JAVA13_HOME to be set. PLease set it JDK 1.4.1 install area and rety again.
I am not sure what JAVA13_HOME is but I am wondering if it is related to some Mobile sync. Also, could somebody help me and advise if I am going in the right direction here?
Many thanks in advance.
AlexHi Alex
Can you please control that ?
JAVA13_HOME will be the location for your JAVA home. You can check the path for your java installtion, either 1.3 or 1.4 and set the path accordingly. Usually in Linux the path will be some thing like /local/java/jdk1.4.2.
TNS_ADMIN should point to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
Please read that also http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28928_01/doc/server.103/b28924/preinstall.htm
Let us know if it helps you.

installation
rpm -i xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386.rpm
After the RPM, is installed, you will also need to override the /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 with the one from /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6.
As root, issue the commands:
mv /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6.ORG

Can anyone pls help me out to solve this query??
Thanks in anticipation. At which point did it occur to you that Windows 7 was developed and released after any version of Oracle 10g and was both uncertified and untested on this platform? ;)
10g will fall off the cliff into desupport in just two weeks. Toss it out and install 11.2.0.1. -

also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
# ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
# touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules
# Raw bind to Oracle Clusterware devices
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524174", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524179", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %N"If migrating to RHEL5/OEL5 from an earlier Linux version that relied on /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file for persistent raw device bindings, the following script can be used as a basis for generating your RHEL5/OEL5 udev rules. Note, the script does not factor device name persistency.
#!/bin/bash
grep -v "^ *#" /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices | grep -v "^$" | while read dev major minor ; do
if [ -z "$minor" ]; then
echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"${major##/dev/}\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %N\""
else
echo "ACTION==\"add\", ENV{MAJOR}==\"$major\", ENV{MINOR}==\"$minor\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %M %m\""

Error Installing Oracle 10g on Windows Vista
I have just bought new Laptop with Intel Core Solo Processor U1500 (1.33 Ghz) and 1Gb Ram, and Windows Vista Business Edition.
When I ran Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition Setup on my laptop, setup asked for Administrative Password and then Unknown Error Occured, any idea what could be the problem ?
Regards,
LuqmanYou didn't mention if you have Vista Home Premium or Vista Home Basic. Whether Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit version. Nor did you mention which version of oracle software you downloaded and used to install.
I have installed Oracle 10g Enterprise on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. It does work. However, I downloaded and used the version of Vista 32-bit.
So, did you use the version of Windows Vista 32-bit or not?
What is the error message?
People can not help you unless you tell use the error message. -
Install Oracle 10g with Toad 9.1
Hi All,
I am a novice in database(SQL,PLSQL) programming and hence want to learn and practise very deeply in detail for which i want to install Oracle 10g client with Toad 9.1.So need your advise on the process.
(a)Do i need to download entire Oracle Enterprise Edition Installation for Vista? I have read in one of the forums that downloading only the Oracle Client is enough?
Can you please advise me?
(b)I already have the TOAD 9.1 setup with me which i can install. But,i do not know that how will i use TOAD interface and connect to the oracle database.
(c)Also, any sample script/database with some tables that i can use for learning complex SQL query writing would be very helpful. In brief-any project that i can work on in building all the requirements by writing SQL which simulates real time scenarios of SQL development.
Please help me ,i am struggling.
Thanks
DevHi all,
Thanks a lot for all your inputs. Its very useful and presently I am following the steps suggested.
I had another doubt with respect to this. While attending a oracle course, the instructor had told about an installation option of installing oracle 10g on Linux using VMware/virtual -i am sorry i am not sure about it.
So,can you please give your inputs about this process as I dont know about how to setup?
(a)What are the tools that i will need to build a virtual machine in my present computer with Linux as the OS?
And,what are the steps we need to do ?
(b)How do i use a vitual machine if i install it? I mean how will it work?
(c)Then,at last how do i install Oracle with Linux on that?
Please help me with some more inputs

Install Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 Server cluster (MSCS)
Hi all
How do I install Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 cluster (MSCS installed)?
I have a 2-nodes Microsoft windows 2003 server cluster and I want to install Oracle 10g,
Do I folloow this order:
1. Install the software on both without the database
2. Create the database from the first node
in this case, The second node can see the database as it is available?,
and what about the IP adresses?
If you can point me to some documentation, or help in any way, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for any help.Read here...
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96685_01/intro.htm
>>
Oracle Fail Safe comprises multiple components: Oracle Fail Safe Manager, Oracle Services for MSCS, and server components specific to Oracle Fail Safe.

So I don't know how you can achieve this without Fail Safe.
There might be other link which I cannot find right now. -

Not installing Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 2

DulalHello,
Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
But be careful:
Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

An issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on Ubuntu 10.04-64bit
Hi,
I'm running into an issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on my Ubuntu 10.04-64 bit installed machine using oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb package. The issue actually came up when I was trying to reinstall the package after uninstalling it due to some problem I had with my login credentials. To elaborate further on it, the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script does not get created when I execute the debian package and thus i'm unable to configure the required credentials and stuff after the installation. I doubt whether this has something to do with the procedure I followed when uninstalling the previous package it. But what I did was just what's mentioned in the following [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm] user guide published by oracle.
Another important clue would be, the platform of my machine is amd64bit although I'm dealing with an installation package preferred for i386. But I believe it's the only thing available in the oracle software download section. Hence I had to use the --force-architecture option to install it. But after reading some post published on this forum, I've figured out that it does not affect the usual execution of the software. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate some help on this matter.

Edited by: 829281 on Jan 18, 2011 7:52 PMHi,
Finally I've managed to find a solution for this issue. Thanks a lot for all the replies.
Here's how I got rid of it.
Addressing all the facts one by one,
1.The problem of not getting the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script generated was avoided
by removing all the configuration files that were previously created while installing
the product. The following command can be used to accomplish that task.
*$ dpkg --purge oracle-xe*
2.Next, Initially the password I used during the configuration process was "admin".
Although I tried a couple of times installing the product providing the aforementioned
password, the web UI kept prompting "Invalid Credentials" message not allowing me
to login. But, this particular issue could be avoided by giving some other simple
password.
Finally, got it working and once again thanks a bunch for taking the burden of
replying this thread.
Cheers,
