When you get anything that says your network connection timed out it either means you lost internet connection or there is something blocking the connection between the computer and the servers that it is trying to connect to.
If you have a solid internet connection and can browse to websites fine it's either an anti-virus program or a firewall on the computer OR a firewall in the router's settings that you use to connect to the internet.
Reconfigure any security software to allow Apple's servers to pass.
Useful information for configuring your security software:
IMPORTANT: iTunes must be allowed to contact Apple using the following ports and servers:
              ▪          port 80
              ▪          port 443
              ▪          phobos.apple.com, deimos3.apple.com, albert.apple.com, gs.apple.com, itunes.apple.com, ax.itunes.apple.com, ax.init.itunes.apple.com, ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
iTunes uses well known ports and these ports may need to be opened for iTunes: 80, 443, 3689, 5297, 5298, 5353, 8000-8999, and 42000-42999.
iTunes also contacts VeriSign servers during an iPhone restore and activation:
              ▪          evintl-ocsp.verisign.com
              ▪          evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com
For more information see Update and restore alert messages on iPhone and iPod touch
Temporarily disable or uninstall your security software
If the current available version of your security software is incompatible with iTunes, you can disable the security software and test if it is the source of the issue. It might also be necessary to temporarily uninstall security software after making sure you can reinstall it and note any required licenses. A temporary deinstallation might be required because parts of some security software remain active in the background though they appear to be deactivated.
To reduce any security risks that security software is designed to prevent, consider making sure all files needed to reinstall it are available and disconnect network connections before uninstalling security software. Should this not be possible, such as if a download without active security software is required, that required step should be the only process completed without security software. For assistance in checking your configuration, disabling, or uninstalling your security software, please contact the manufacturer.
Once disabled or uninstalled, perform only the steps required to verify your issue has been resolved. Complete whatever update, restore, syncing, back up, activation, or other task you were troubleshooting. Once that task is complete, install and configure compatible security software to ensure your PC is protected.
If it isn't a program or software on the computer contact your Internet Service Provider and/or Router Company to configure or disable the firewall in the router settings.
To isolate the issue to this you can also try disconnecting the router and plugging your computer directly in to the modem but this does not help for troubleshooting time-out issues directly on any apple mobile devices only if you are syncing or going through iTunes on the computer.

  • HT1212 ipad disabled it syncs sand starts download for update but stops and says network connection timed out. its not 3g cant use find iphone

asks if i want to update and restore download starts and then message syas network connection timed out. any ideas on another method i can update after unlocked and restore all his stuff from icloud

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • Everytime I connect to update message comes up saying There was a problem with the downloading The network connection timed out what should I do

After connecting with itunes phone starts update but then message comes up saying "There was aproblem downloading the software for the iphone The network connection timed out" How do I fix this problem?

  • Still can't download iTunes purchases, please help! incorrectly says "network connection timed out"

I've been trying for 4 days to download purchased media from iTunes and I keep getting this error message "The network connection timed out." I assure you my internet connection works perfectly.
Not sure if this is relevant, but this error spontaneously happened after my most recent purchase on the night of 2/10. I was able to download some iTunes extras right before I made the most recent HD movie purchase, and as soon as I tried to download that, nada!
Here's what I've already tried, but has NOT worked:
    -re-opening iTunes
    -restarting computer (several times)
    -deleting tmp files
    -disabling antivirus ware & firewalls
    -deleting & re-installing iTunes
If anyone has any other ideas to help me out, I'm all ears!
    Thanks!
    E

    hi, thanks for your response!
please excuse my ignorance, but do you mean log into my iTunes at an apple store & download my purchases onto a flash? I wasn't aware I could do that...

  • Unable to install ios5, keeps saying network connection timed out

Unable to install ios 5, after downloading, during installation, message says unable to install due to network connection timed out, check your network settings but as far as I know, the network connections are fine.  what should I do to correct this problem?

This is aksed and answered many times each day.  The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.
Disable your firewall/security software and try again.

  • When updating my devices, I get the following message:  There was a problem downloading for the iPhone.  the network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later

When updating each of my devices (iPhones and iPads) in iTunes, i always get the same error message
"there was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "Mary's iPhone"  The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later

This is common and there are literally hundreds of posts about this exact error.
Temporarily disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer.

  • When trying to create connection using Contribute 6.5, get error message "Unknown error.  Please see the log for detail."  The log says "Network connection timed out."  What do I do now?

Have been using Contribute 6.5, and earlier versions, for years with Hostway without any problems.  All of a sudden I cannot create a connection to our website.  Tried to chat with Adobe a twice now and got no help.  Yesterday they started a chat with me, then ended the session without any communication!  My problem has been going on for several weeks now.  I uninstalled Contribute, downloaded and installed again, but it did not help.  Hostway had me connect with Zilla and everything worked fine.  So, they say the problem is with Adobe.    The last attempt ended with "Unknown error. Please see the log for detail."  The log says "Network operation timed out."  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi There,
Can you please try using any other Internet connection outside your company's network and see if it is working? Alternatively, Can you please try the below settings from the Advanced... Menu while creating the connection using FTP details and try to create the connection again:

iPhone update to 4.3.3 failed and gave me the error message, " update failed due to network connections timing out". I am using a cable modem with ethernet. iPhone is a 4G currently running 4.3.1. What is the solution?

i believe it is a result of a weak connection. maybe try it at someone else's place?

  • New iPad . Cannot load ios5.0 says network connection timed out.trying to sync with a pc

Just got a new IPad2. First time Apple user.  Need to upgrade to ios5 but get an error message saying network timed out.  Tried removing firewalls on my pc and disconnecting my anti virus.  Did not help.  Any suggestions?

Download iOS 5.0.1! apple servers will not allow you to install iOS 5 as there is already a later version available.
If your itunes is acting up, download the iOS from another site then hold shift button and click RESTORE button in iTunes and select the iOS 5.0.1 ipsw file you just downloaded and voila!!

  • Error when connecting to store- says network connection timed out

whenever i try to connect to the music store it says that i can't connect because it timed out. it was working fine at first. i took down my fire wall (windows xp) and i downloaded the newest version of i-tunes. my biggest problem is that whenever i want to import one of my cds, the info for the cd doesn't come up (artists, song name, album, genre). they are not burned cds and before when i was on a different interent server it worked just fine.
i tried going into the windows/system32/drivers/etc host thing and putting the number sign in front of the number but it was already there (i read about this on another post)
i have norton but i had norton before when the music store was working and i haven't updated it. the only thing that has changed is my internet server. it's a different company and different modem and all. but like i said, i disabled that firewall in my network connections.
    please help.
    Compaq   Windows XP   Old

    whitsacoolcat,
Since you are not able to get to to iTunes store or the gracenote database (where the CD track info is located), you should contact your internet service provider for help since that and their modem are the only things that have changed between the time these worked for you, and when they stopped working.

  • Can't download purchases, iTunes wrongly says "network connection timed out"

Apple surely charged my account the $19.99 for my latest HD movie purchase, but I haven't been able to download it, or the 6 other files I have pending!
Connection works perfectly, I've restarted cpu several times, deactivated firewall, deleted & reinstalled iTunes, deleted tmp files, nothing works!! I've been at this for 3 days to no avail, Please HELP!!

    Hi, thanks for your reply...
I've tried that before and just tried it one more time before replying to you... nada! I was hoping it was just a glitch and it would fix itself, but after 3 days I'm just annoyed. Like I said, I've even deleted iTunes and reinstalled it, that did nothing either :/
