Downloading lost itunes music from support and running out of space on HD
Well it's been a long process, but to make things short:
I called support to get help in recovering lost itunes music on emac running panther. The support folks were easily able to locate the purchased music which also included some movies and TV shows (son's computer). we were able to initiate the downloads, however part way through the process I noted that the drive on the emac would probably fill up, and it did. The emac has a external drive. I want to move the itunes music folder to the external drive, which I probably should have done first.
So now is it possible to move the itunes music folder to the external drive and then continue the restoration and how would this be done, precisely. I have searched and read a few articles on this process and I was confused by giving a iTunes Music folder path to "whatever new location you want your iTunes media files to be stored in". If I get into this will the computer prompt me and show the external drive as a possible new location of the folder, or do I need to enter the new location and what would the new path look like in words?

I just realized I have a different iCloud account set up on my phone. The one on my Macbook is the one associated with my ITunes account. Could this be the problem?

Several months back, I had a phantom 5G of video. I unchecked ALL video files and synced the iPad and the 5G was still there. I was able to delete the 5G and bring it back by repeatedly unchecking and checking the "Sync Movies" box.
A "Restore" solved my problem. Be forewarned that it's not quick:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes." -
How do I synch my old iTunes music with my new iPhone? I last had an iPhone 2 years ago and I have all my music on iTunes showing on my laptop. But I can't find any way to download it to my new iPhone.
Just connect the new iPhone and sync. You will need iTunes 10.7 or later to work with an iPhone 5, so if your version of iTunes is older, you'll need to upgrade. If you have iTunes 11, see:

Combing iTunes music from Mac and Pc
Daughter originally had a Mac, which she had most of her music on. Then, her Grandmother bought her a PC laptop, just because. She has not bought music on on the PC iTunes, but she has put a few CDs on it. She would like to merge all the music on to her PC, including the stuff she's bought off iTunes. Is that possible by simply copying the mac iTunes library onto the PC or is there something else that has to be done?
Thank you for the information about the location of the iTunes System 9 library and about needing MacDrive for a firewire transfer but I doubt if my sister would want to fork over the money for it. Also, she doesn't have any other iPod other than the new one we gave her which won't mount on her Mac. My sisters Mac and PC are networked as they are both hooked up via router to the internet but both she and I are clueless about how to get the PC to show up on her Mac.
My sister has music in both her iTunes System 10.3.9 library and her iTunes System 9 Library. She mentioned that it was a PITA to convert the complete iTunes over from System 9 to Panther. However, I am hoping that the just the music in the System 9 iTunes library doesn't have any kind of funky file formatting and just the music alone could be just be copied to her PC iTunes library.
My sister doesn't have her music backed up so I expect that she will have to go ahead and do that and use the CDs to get her music over to her PC. I was just hoping that there might be a faster way to do the transfer so she can enjoy her new iPod sooner. -

So I have two internal hard drives in my laptop but the hard drive that my music is on is running out of space. I want to transfer my music from the smaller hard drive to the larger hard drive so my computer can run faster. If I do this I'm afraid I'm going to have to locate every song within the iTunes library. Is there a way around it so I won't have to go in my files and locate every song? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Instead of moving the entire iTunes folder you can copy it, then do the Shift-launch trick to select the .itl file from its new location. If it works, then go back and delete the original location.
But maybe clarify your configuration ... specifically, is your "iTunes Library.itl" file currently on the same drive that your music files are stored on? Or, do you keep your .itl file on a separate drive than the native files? If the .itl file is on a separate drive right now, then moving or copying the music files over to be on the same drive can result in iTunes not knowing where your native files went. You can get around that using the Consolidate utility in iTunes, but that is not necessary if the .itl file lives with the music files. -
I recently sycned all my Itunes music from my Iphone to my Mac. I had 150-200 songs. After the sync I went and checked my phone, I now only have 53 songs. The lost one's aren't even showing up in my purchased. It's like I never bought them! Please help!!

I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded? The online information suggests all my music will be replaced. Will I have to download it again??
What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account." The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases. It is also used with iCloud. iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod. If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked). If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod. When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library. Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want). Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs. Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists. Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs). The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod. -
Just bought a new imac and tried to download all my music from my iPod but it only allow me to download purchased items and not the rest of stuff stored on a previous pc itunes folder. How do I get round this ?
The simplest way to transfer everything is to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.

My daughter has used my computer to log into iTunes and download music but now it won't let me download recently purchased music from my iPad onto my computer. I want to transfer the recently purchased songs onto my iPod so how can I do this now? iTunes now says that I have to wait another 55 days! There must be a way to do this since I have paid for them.
In iTunes sign out of your daughters Apple ID and sign in with your own.

It should ne in itunes on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer.

Make a playlist of the items you want to burn, put a blank cd in the drive and burn the playlist to it.

Hey everybody,
I also was experiencing the unknown error -42018 when attempting to download purchased music. Additionally, I was stuck in an endless authorization loop when attempting to play previously purchaed music. All this started when I installed the latest iTunes software 7.0.2.
I run windows XP Pro, and unlike the majority of users I actually set it up correctly with a dedicated administrator account, and regular user accounts instead of just running as admin all the time. For me, that was the cause of the problem.
The new version of iTunes software required FULL CONTROL privilages on the iTunes and iPod install directories for all user accounts that were using the program. (Previous versions worked fine, so this is a new thing.) Once I provided those permissions, iTunes worked correctly. Follow this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040 for information on how to provide FULL CONTROL to every user account.
