Downloading Maps without Phone Connected?

When I try to download maps, for example for all of Europe, Ovi Suite demands that the phone stays connected. As downloading would take a couple of hours: Is there a way to download maps first to the PC and then to the phone?

No, you can't. The software functions to download the files into your PC then directly transfers it to the phone as it does not have capacity to create permanent storage folders on your PC for maps.

  • IOS 5: will I be able to download it without a connection to iTunes as I don't have a computer at the moment?

I have an iPad 2 and want iOS5 when it comes out. But I just gave my MBP to my son who is in programming and needed it desperately.  Will I be able to download iOS5 without a physical connection to iTunes, which I don't have now?
    Thanks.

King_Penguin, thanks so much for getting back with me so quickly. You mentioned downloading it from a friend's computer. Is it just a matter of connecting to his comp via USB and transferring it to my iPad? How would Apple know to charge my account for the purchase?
You'll have to forgive me. I'm up in years and not very savvy about these things!
    Appreciate your help.

  • Can't browse store without phone connected

Why Can't I access without the phone connected to the computer?  Not being able to do this guarantees that I will never purchase apps, music, etc. from Nokia as I will only hook up my phone if there is something I want.

Can you provide more details ? May sound silly but...Is your PC connected to Internet and have you sign-in in the Nokia Suite ?
No issues here as seen in the attachment ...

  • Downloading maps without connect the phone.

With the map loader it was possible to download the maps to a memory card (only after started once Ovi maps on the phone)  without connect the phone to the computer. With Ovi suite it is not possible do it anymore.
please back this function. To download several GB  I need time and download the maps directly on the memory card give me the possibility to use the phone normally.

  • Downloaded Map but not appearing in phone!!

I recently updated my firmware for my N76 device to the latest (30.0xx), and it came with the new version of nokia maps.
I followed all instructions to install the map (Malaysia), but for some reason it does NOT appear on my phone. When I zoom in on the target location (cursor is targeted on Malaysia and I'm zooming in), all I see is BLANK.
I've tried clearing all maps using the map loader and reinstalling the SAME map 3 times, but i still don't see anything! I can't browse the map of my country offline.
The older smart2go used to work for my phone, I could browse maps offline without having to connect a GPS receiver, but now I can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you set the phone for data transfer not PC Suite at onset. I had to 'eject' the USB device via safely remove icon in system try before unplugging device, I downloaded maps many times only to loose them by just pulling my E90's USB.

  • Nokia E52 - downloading maps direct to the phone

Hello, i would ask if here is chance to download maps directly to the phone without using a PC. (through WiFi).
    I have Ovi Maps appliaction v 3.04 , phone Nokia E52.
    Thanks for answers.

    @sladdy
    Welcome to the forum!
There is nothing to stop you downloading directly the compressed .zip file for smaller region(s) from map servers directly upon your E52, decompressing it and moving the (16) folders 0 - 9 and a - f to their respective positions in E:\Cities\diskcache following the methods outlined by ovikovi here on the forum!
There is unfortunately no "Update" feature within Ovi Maps v3.04 as opposed to v3.06 for this purpose!

  • If I download Mountain Lion on my MBP , can I use the same installer file on a different computer and continue the installation without Internet connectivity?

    Hi Folks,
I have just downloaded Mountain lion on my  Macbook Pro(haven't installed it yet) . My question is, can I copy the same downloaded Mountain Lion from the Applications on to an external hard drive and use the same on a different computer? I am having problems with internet connectivity right now, it would be amazing if it can be installed on the iMac without internet connection.
    So is that doable?
    Thanks in advance

And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

  • My mac is a version 10.5.8. I just downloaded ios7, and it is telling me I need to download iTunes 11 to connect to my phone, but I don't have a new enough version. What do I do?!

My mac is a version 10.5.8. I just downloaded ios7, and it is telling me I need to download iTunes 11 to connect to my phone, but I don't have a new enough version. What do I do?! I think snow leopard was the last update I purchased.  Is there a way to convert my phone back? I need to be able to update it, but don't have the money for a new computer.. Help!

10.5.8 is Leopard, not Snow Leopard. Leopard ran on both PPC and Intel Macs, but Snow Leopard runs only on Intel Macs. iTunes 11 will run on Snow Leopard, though I'm not sure whether iOS7 requires a higher system (Apple seem to specify only itunes 11 and not an OSX system so you may be OK). However if your Mac is a PPC you cannot proceed; if it's an Intel one you can purchase Snow Leopard in the Online Store (search for Snow Leopard to find it quickly) - it's not expensive. It's not possible to roll your phone back to iOS6.

  • How fast an internet connection is required to download Photoshop without getting timed out by the server?

What minimum internet speed is required to download Photoshop without being timed out by the server?
I experienced a spectacular crash and blue-screen freeze while attempting to download the creative cloud from a hotel wifi system.
Since I don't want a repeat of that calamity, I suspect I was timed out but would welcome input. The hotel has about 1 mbps internet speed according to speedtest.net.
I'm currently working in China but live in Atlanta, waiting to return home to download isn't practical.

Zaphod922 there is no specific bandwidth requirement but if there is enough failures then the download will eventually be canceled.  Perhaps a coffee shop wifi hot spot to download the applications?
As an alternative you can download the base installers from Adobe CC 2014 Direct Download Links: Creative Cloud 2014 Release | ProDesignTools.  You would still need to download the updates but having the base install in place will reduce the downloads through the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

  • Route tracking with Ovi Maps without internet conn...

I have been trying to find an app, which would track my  route without connecting to the  internet. This is important in two cases: 1. when there is no service (in the mountains, for instance) 2. when it is prohibitively expensive (like abroad). It is great that I can download Ovi Maps for any location in the world, but I cannot really use it as every app that I know is trying to connect. I found one app, which came close, Parking 2. It does use Ove Maps and one would think that you can track back your car looking at the pre-loaded maps, but this is not the case. It still connects and then loads the maps (which are already pre-loaded on the phone!). And if there is no connection, there are no maps.
Does anyone know of a free or paid app, which can do exactly that: track your route based on the pre-loaded Ovi Maps without connecting to the net?
Thank you in advance for any info

@optiplex - I Understand where you are coming from. It sounds fairly simple. Unfortunately, the maps that ovi has for places like ladakh and other places in the Himalayas are fairly featureless. There are no contours on the map for where the terrain is mountainous. For instance, I have planned an expedition in the Tsomoriri - Peldo - Skarchyu sector. The Terrain ranges from 15000 ft to 22000 + ft. Straight line just aint gonna work. If the map were bit more detailed then I could actually set way points to the destination and then work one way point at a time. Unfortunately, while I am happy that the GPS on N8 works wonderfully well without GPRS/3G or any cellular network, the ovi maps are a let down, in that they are not very detailed. (not talking about cities and towns and not referring to drive navigation at all which according to me works beautifully.)

When I am hiking in the mountains, or when I am abroad touring across some city, I want to see my route on the map, so I can always find my way back.
    1. OVI Maps and Sport Tracker does not need Internet connection if you did the setting correctly.
    2. Sport Tracker will record your trail. The trail can be shown on the Sport Tracker maps. The trail record can also be exported out as KML file and on the PC screen, display the trail on Google Earth.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can use the trail record to guide you back to your starting position while in the mountain.
So how about this method using OVI maps.
    1. Set your Walk navigation to "Straight Line" instead of "Street".
    2. Record your starting position as a Favorite on OVI Maps.
    3. Walk into the mountain.
    3. Use OVI Maps to navigate back to your starting position by selecting "Walk to". OVI maps will show how far and the built in compass will show you which direction is your starting position.
Not sure whether this is what you needed.

  • AxLoader when Downloading Maps

Evertime I try to download map from UK web siteusing my PC OS Win 7 and  I get message "Unable to create the loader Active X Control" I then give permission to install and get "
Unable to create the loader Active X Control Please review your security settings and user priviledges on this machine."
I have checked my settings and can not find the reason. Has anyone a solution

I have an E71, and was also told when i was researching the phone that the GPS function did not require data. However, when i went bac into the shop I was told that it would work significantly faster with data connection.
My data hasn't kicked in yet (for another mnth).
The way i got around it was to insert someone's SIM that had a data allowance, let GPS connect th first time with data, and now it works with my SIM - when i say it works, it now registers the MAPS are there, and locates my position.
It is super slow to connect though. (actually, probably on par with my tom tom on a bad day, to be fair)
And i still haven;'t been able to use the search function - does anyone know if this requires data?
and haven't been able to set up navigation because as far as i can tell without he search function, the only way to navigate is to actually go to the spot you want to navigate to, and then mark it as a favourite, and then the phone will store it for next time.
by that time, i am already there!
    hope this helps.

  • Downloading maps for my 920

I can start to download them, then the process stops without any pop ups, so I start it again and it tells me it cannot reach maps at the moment. I've checked on wifi and 3G nothing seems to change.
I was able to get the maps before I reseted my phone onto my xbox account. I don't know if that helps

I would remove the Nokia Drive app and re-install, then get the maps again. Maps can only be downloaded using a WLAN connection.
