Downloading Mavericks and connection timeouts.
Re.
I'm experiencing a problem when downloading OS X Mavericks (or anything sizeable) from the App Store.
Whenever my connection (a portable hotspot, hosted on my 5s provided via GSM) drops momentarily, my App Store download goes through an infinite "Calculating" loop. I have to manually pause the connection until I'm able to re-ping a server, (however short the timeout is, in this case, eight seconds), and resume it all over again. (This happens about four times a minute.)
Is there any way to set a greater alive-connection-interval between no-operation codes received from the App Store? Vis-à-vis TCP-KeepAlive? Or is this something I'll just have to live through?
It's a nuisance I've seen multiple people on here suffer through, with no actionable results.
If anyone has any ideas, it would help those of us with shittier bandwidth.
[Shown below is what I'm going through if the above wasn't illustrative enough.]

I downloaded Mavericks and now my WD Smartware that I use for Time Machine is no longer compatible with this OSX version? How do I make that unit compatible? olefromca
I agree entirely, been messing with this since the upgrade to Mavericks but I didn't find it quite as easy as uninstalling the WD smartware as it still operates when you plug the drive back in - I think it gets loaded onto the drive and runs from within (?). The advice from WD was that time machine was faulty and I should contact Apple...thanks guys!
Anyway, for the OP's benefit, this is what I found:
1. My problem was that time machine couldn't see any further back than before the Mavericks install, but if I opened up and interrogated the WD drive, the old backups were still there.
2. When TM started doing new backups, it overwrote the ones that it could see, not the oldest ones on the drive. This indicated to
me that the WD software had somehow partitioned off the old backups and excluded that part of the drive from being overwritten. Of course, as the drive was practically full, it meant that any new backups wouldn't fit in the available space.....
3. The only way I could find to resolve this was to use the disc utility to erase and repartition the external drive. This will obviously remove all of the old files and backups, but I was more concerned about keeping a current profile as backup rather than a load of stuff from months ago.
4. Anyway, what happens after the eraseure has completed is that you get the WD icon on the desktop, and you're invited to install the software - this means the software has now been deleted. Juts don't reinstall it, just let TM do it's backup and all is well.
Usual disclaimers and warnings about keeping another copy of your system etc. obviously apply, and I know this is a radical move to delete all your old data but it worked for me. I guess I didn't appreciate that you could use the external drive without the software that came with it and just followed the screen guide.
I'm also aware that if you don't want to use TM to do a complete restore and only want to find one old version of a document, this is difficult. However, you can then install the WD software and find the file but you'll then have to do this all again..... -
I downloaded Mavericks and now when I google a topic and select one, I then cannot scroll back to the original google page if I wish to try a different answer?
Sorry, I'm not very good at describing the problem. If I had multiple browser pages open, prior to downloading Maverick I could swipe the mouse to go back or forward as required. Now if I google a subject and the page comes up with all the choices and I pick one, I now cannot swipe back to the first page , I have to re-open google each time, type in my seach and start from scratch.

Downloading mavericks and it's been on the apple logo for more than 2 hours
I started downloading mavericks and I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and it's been at the apple logo with the greyish white screen with the turning wheel for over 2 hours I'm not sure if that's normal. It would be great if someone who had a familiar problem I'm thinking about rebooting it if that's a good idea?

i have downloaded mavericks and it works ok. Why however stays my app in download status instead of installed status?
Ok. Sleeping here. The App Store. Applications, other than the operating system, will be downloaded and automatically installed for you. Once that is done, the App Store Purchases category will (should) show a greyed out INSTALLED.
In App Store purchases, I have three applications that have DOWNLOAD status. Mavericks, Mountain Lion, and Lion. This particular status means that I can download again, these operating system installers, if necessary. It does not imply anything is wrong. -
I downloaded Maverick and when done noticed that the "BURN" icon for my cd/dvd burner is missing. Where did it go and how do I get it back?
In a Finder window, right click on the window's tool bar, select Customize, and drag the Burn button to the tool bar.

Downloaded Mavericks and now not able to open iPhoto
Downloaded Mavericks and now why am I not able to open iphoto?

Not obvious enough. Why separate the two?? Oh well, it's done, and I'm happy.
I take your point. Mail.app is in the Applications folder alongside iphoto.app, however some are in the OS and some are not. What I meant was it should be obvious that after an upgrade you either wait for the update notices, or run Software Update after an OS upgrade, not before. Taking a Time Machine backup before upgrading the OS is also essential but missed by many.
You can leave the suggestion at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html to include reminders in the How to Upgrade and during an upgrade. Apple will not reply but will take notice. -

I just downloaded Mavericks and now my AutoCAD 2012 won't open. What do I do?
I just downloaded Mavericks and now my AutoCAD 2012 won't open. What do I do?
Autocad 2012 is NOT Mavericks compatble.
So, you either need to find and pay for an upgrade AutoCad 2013 which is compatible with OS X Mavericks or pay to upgrade to AutoCad 2014.
If you have a cloned backup of your previous system before upgrading to Mavericks, it would have been easy to revert back to your previous OS X version.
If you don't have a previous backup, your only option, now, is to create a backup of your system and important data , now, to an external hard drive. Once you have a backup, you need to purchase and clean install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (if you haven't purchase Mt. Lion already).

AutoCad 2012 is compatble with OS X 10.8. You'll have to reinstall all of your applications including AutoCad. -
imovie: I have just downloaded 'mavericks' and have installed all updates. I get an error message:Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements. What to do? Thanks for any help in advance.
I am not 100% sure this is the issue, but I saw a different thread about the ATI Radeon HD 2600 not being OpenCL compatible for another program and that a newer compatible graphics card would be required to solve the problem. I am getting the same message with my 2007 iMac 24".

how can i download maverick and keep snow leopard,i am not very tech savy
You'll be given the option to change the target after the download is complete and before the actual installation begins. The process is otherwise the same as normal.

I started downloading Mavericks and it paused halfway through and won't finish downloading. What can I do?
Hit the resume button or contact http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/ which is responsible for making this abysmal delivery system work.

I have previously downloaded Mavericks and yet the App store shows "download" I did and now I have done it twice. Today i noticed that 4 apps were marked update and yet they have been updated earlier. Why does it still say "download"
It will allow you to download again, but you do not have to do so.
If you Sign Out and then Sign In does it still show these status marks? Do you get the update red badge on the App Store icon, or only in the Purchases area? -
