Downloading MS Office 2008 to iMac without a port.

I have two licenses remaining on MS Office Home & Student Edition software purchased in 2008. It's supposed to be downloaded via the DVD provided in the packaging. Rather than purchasing a new "subscription" to MS Office as it's now called, and tossing out the 2008 version with its two remaining licenses I'd like to use them, one for my new iMac and one for my Macbook Air. Neither has a port. Is there any way to download them just using the license numbers...without having to attach something with a port to the two computers and doing it that way?

What do you mean by a port?
Maybe a DVD drive?
Buy an external Superdrive.

How can I download Micosoft Office 2008 for Mac on my new Macbook Air? I have the DVD and product key

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You have two options:
    1. If you have another Mac or PC, use Remote Disc to install it on your Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287
    2. Buy an external optical drive and use it to install Microsoft Office.
Both options work correctly. If you are going to use the optical drive once, use Remote Disc, but it will be much slower than using an optical drive connected to the computer

If you have Microsoft Office for Mac on a DVD, you have two options:
    1. Buy an external optical drive, connect it to the iMac and use it to install Office.
    2. If you have another Mac or PC, use Remote Disc > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • "New" 2008 24" iMac without restore/install DVDs.

    Hi Everyone!
Thanks for allowing me to ask my question and for your responses. I just purchased a 2008 24" iMac from a friend of mine. He had tried to wipe the entire computer but some things he couldn't remove. Now that I have it I want it to be just like I bought it from Apple store new. I assume I have to restore and reinstall the OS? Problem is, my friend can't find the Restore/Install discs that came with the unit.
If you can, please help me through this issue. I'm heading to the Genius Bar for some help too. Again, I have "new to me" mac and I want to do what ever I need to do to get it back to the point where it's "like new" again with Leopard on the machine. At that point I will upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Thanks for all your help guys!
    JDGaby

Thanks for the help in solving my issue. After patiently waiting for my discs, I wiped out everything and started from scratch using my discs. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, and installed my Adobe CS4 Design Premium. Man, I've got one lean mean machine! Thanks again!

  • Reinstall my PS5 on new iMac without CD port

    Hi,
I used the migration assistant to transfer over my information to my new iMac but it is now telling me that components are missing from PS5. I only dowloaded it once and have the serial number. How do I reinstall it on my computer without a CD port? Is there a link to download it off online and use my serial number?

Yes. You must mean CS5. Download CS5 products  You'll just need the serial number.
You can never migrate Photoshop from one computer to another, you must reinstall.
After that go to Product updates to download the latest updates.

  • Downloading software on the new imac

I'm trying to download Microsoft Office 2008 my new iMac. Is there any way to do this with out having the Superdrive?

Your problem may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this old thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.
In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail (your post makes little sense), including completing your details to show what Mac you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X.

  • Transfering music from Nano to new iMac without old computer

I recently had a hard drive fail on my old PC laptop and can't access my iTunes music for my Nano. Is there anyway you can download music onto the new iMac without having access to the old PC? I'm talking about music that's been loaded onto the Nano via CD (not iTunes Store) - Please help

    Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008.  The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster.  I read that Yosemite won't support Word 2008. What Microsoft Update should I buy, and will that fix my problems?  I am desperate. Thank you in advance for your help.  Here is the result I got from EtreCheck. I hope this helps you help me.  BTW, your drop-down menu under Operating System doesn't work

Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

  • Acrobat 9.0 Pro and Office 2008 updates download but won't install

I hope I'm not alone experiencing the following difficulties installing third party patches and updates and that someone who reads this may recognize the problem…and its solution. I've run Adobe Updater (6?) for CS4 Design Standard which includes Acrobat 9.0 Professional, and subsequently, Microsoft Autoupdate for Office 2008 v12.0.1, but find that neither will install the downloaded updates which disappear immediately after an (unsuccessful) installation attempt.
Disk space is not a problem (500GB HD) nor is memory (4GB RAM); I'm using OS 10.6.4 (10F569) which is the most current set of OS updates I can locate. I had successfully been running CS4 with Adobe's most recent patches (e.g. P'Shop 11.0.2 and Acrobat 9.3.3) until the 9.3.4 patch failed to install with the message that +"Safari and Acrobat apps must be closed in order to proceed"+—they were closed as was everything else that wasn't essential according to a check of the Acitivity Window. A grab of the alert panel reads:
+"AcroProUPd934_all Update Failed: The Patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled). Please go to the Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch, or you can uninstall and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch."+
Of course, uninstalling CS4 and reinstalling the entire suite of apps reverts all of them to their original versions, now none of them will accept an update…whether manually downloaded and fed to it or by using Adobe's most recent AutoUpdater. The most consistent message is an alert panel stating that in order to continue, Safari and Acrobat applications must be closed—which they are.
Not surprisingly, after nearly 8 hours on a cell phone with Adobe Tech Support in Delhi, 5 different techs and a manager, the case remains open a week later; it seems +"no one has ever seen or heard of this problem before"+ and an overly apologetic manager could only repeat +"it's [Adobe] policy to remove all copies of CS4 from existence once CS5 is introduced."+ While we waited for 500MB of updates to download more than once, a helpful tech suggested I'd have more luck finding a used copy of CS4 on the net than getting a link to another download from Adobe.
With regard to Microsoft Office 2008, I'd been running v12.0.1 and the MS Autoupdate app has tried to download and install v12.1.0 (and those which follow) but when installation is attempted, an alert panel reads:
+"There is a problem with the Office database. Office might be unable to access the data base or the database file might be damaged. Without the database, you might be unable to use the Address Book, Scrapbook, and other features that store your personal information. To rebuild the database, Open Microsoft Office 2008/Office, and then open the Microsoft Database Utility. For more information, open the Database Utility application, and on the Help menu, click Database Utility Help."+
All attempts to rebuild the database fail, noting…
+ERROR: Failed to open database [Head]+
    +ERROR: Corruption opening database [16003:""]+
    ======================
    +Scan Ended+
    ====================
Two hours on the phone with a relentlessly pleasant Nova Scotian tech for Microsoft revealed little but the suggestion that +"the app doesn't seem to be able to recognize your hard drive. I've never seen this problem before."+
With luck, perhaps someone reading this far recognizes the issue and can offer a solution? It will be gratefully received! Thanks,
    David

Disk space is not a problem (500GB HD)
How much space is available out of the 500GB?
Have you tried any of the following:
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and try the installations again.

  • After migration to new iMac - problems with Microsoft office 2008 using multiple users

I migrated my data from my old Imac to my new Imac.  On the new Imac I created multiple logins for my kids.  My microsoft office 2008 programs will not open.  I keep getting the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" screen which cycles through, checks for update then closes never allowowing me to access the program.  Please help!!

Reference your first post - I download and use dmg files, so either I'm lucky or they are supported.
I would try the disk reinstall since at this point there doesn't seem to be many options.
Do you have a backup? You could restore the Microsoft Office 2008 folder.

  • Office 2008 or Office 2011 on iMac 2007 running Snow Leopard

    Hi iMac Folks
My iMac Mid 2007 has 4GB RAM and is running Snow Leopard on a 250 GB partition, the another 250 GB partition is purely for Time Machine backup. I also got both Office 2008 and Office 2011.
From the perspectives of performance, stability and compatibility, which version of Office is the best choice for this old iMac?
I currely have a Mac Pro running Office 2011, can Office 2008 open 2011's files without any difficulty or problem?
Cost is not an issue here, as I have already owned both copies, each has three licenses. However, in terms of cost, if possible, I prefer using Office 2008 as this way I can keep more Office 2011 licenses for new Macs, if any.
    Any comments are welcome.
    Kind regards
    B

Yes. Both use the standard .docx and are backwards compatible with older (pre 2007) .doc files.
