Downloading music via the USB port from Zen

I love my Zen but it would be nice to be able to dock it and listen to it when connected to my PC?or the USB port on my car radio, neither work in this mode. The car radio works fine when WMA files are loaded from a USB jump dri've but when the same files are on the ZEN they do not load from the USB port. The car radio manufacturer says it supports iPOD connection. On the PC I have to copy the files to another dri've to listen to them which is daft.

The process I use is simply connecting the digital output from my camera to the USB port on the iMac, which has previously automatically opened iPhoto ready for the import. Now all of a sudden my iMac does not recognise the camera. However if I connect in the same way to my MacBook then iPhoto opens automatically on the MacBook, recognises the camera and is ready for importing. So whilst I know I can use a reader, or my MacBook I want to use my iMac in the same way that I have for years. I can only assume that the settings on the iMac may have changed, but I cannot verify this.

Can I connect an external hard drive to my Airport Express and share it to store files on between two machines via the usb port. The machines are a MacBook and a fairly new Win machine. Printers and Airplay as well as wifi work perfect.

Will the USB port from the Time Capsule power an external hard drive?

to connect to my time capsule, expanding my wireless storage, but I want to know if the Time Capsule has a powered USB port or does the drive I purchase need to have its own power source? Also, Is there any compromise to using a drive that is USB powered, vs one that requires a power source?

Even if the hard drive that you choose has its own power supply, you usually need to use a powered USB hub with the Time Capsule.
Reason....the USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered. You should not really rely on this port to power anything except a single printer.

Downloading music via the phone

Hi all,
I have activated my music account on my pc and i can download music fine, but if i log into my account on my phone through wireless it doesnt recognise my phone as a registered device to download music to.
Is this a common problem or "just one of those things" i cant seem to find any other info regarding this.
My phone is a 5800 XM with comes with music

I cannot pick up Wi Fi in the area of my house that is my office. For a windows laptop I use a plug in (to the mains electric) booster which connects via the USB port. This will not work on MacbookPro as the USB will not recognise it. Why is this?

Hi -before you go buying new cables, I would ask, is your booster only designed for Windows computers or does it have also have an installation setup with drivers for Macs - this could be why the Mac doesn't recognize it.

HT4929 I have 2nd generation I-pod which does not meet requirements for ICloud. However, I was told that after I moved to ICloud if I connected my iPod to my Mac via the USB connection that my calendar and contacts would sync, but this didn't happen.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod and just moved to Icloud. I had been told my an Apple tech that although my contacts and calendar would not sync automatically I could connect the Ipod to my Mac via the USB port and ITunes would sync the calendar. Now I find that this is not happening. I am not happy that I will have to enter/edit calendar and contact info on two devices. Is there something I can do to fix this problem? Thanks.

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file. Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer. Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar. Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
Ideas?

Airport Extreme won't show the WD external hard drive I plugged into the USB port. How do I connect my external hard drive to my network?

I plugged in my WD external hard drive into my Airport Extreme via the USB port. The hard drive will not show up in the disk section in the airport utility... How do I hook an external hard drive up to the airport extreme? I have tried 2 different WD hard drives. I must be missing something!!!

To be recognized by the AirPort for sharing, the WD HDD has to be formatted in either HFS+ (ideal) or FAT32. The easiest way to format the HDD is to use the Disk Utility in OS X.

I checked and it does not appear in the Applications folder.
I tried yesterday on an ethernet connection with a download speed of 2 Mbps but, unfortunately the connection died(It happened from the ISP end, which is out of my control) in between after which there was no trace of the download that happened for so long(till the internet connection death).
One more serious query which I am unable to understand. If the internet connection, dies in the midst of the download is in progress why is it so that the state does not persist and one has to restart the entire process again. Is there no solution for this?
I tried so many times and its the same case after some amount of download it vanishes. So many unsuccessful attempts. I am ****** off now. Is it not possible to see Mavericks? Why does different machines of Apple behave differently? Somewhere it goes smoothly and somewhere like my mine. Why did not Apple release a non apple store version? Is this not a bad sign of letting the users struggle when something is being offered for free?
The reason I asked as whether we can download the .app of Mavericks is that, there are so many applications that I have downloaded web and have installed. All that works fine. Can't we do the same here? You download a copy of Mavericks installer application and upload it for me in Google drive or like online storage places which can be downloaded and used by me? I have a HP Laserjet P1102w printer hooked up to the USB port of my Airport Extreme. I'm able to print to the printer wirelessly from my MacBook Pro. My iPad (2nd gen) can't find the printer. What do I need to do?

My iPad is on the same network as the Airport Extreme. The HP printer is on the list of Airprint printers but I'm not using it as a wireless printer, per se, as it's hooked up to the USB port on the Airport Extreme.
I installed the HP ePrint app on my iPad. Unfortunately, the app could not find the printer either.
As mentioned earlier, I'm able to print wirelessly to the HP printer via my MacBook Pro.

Not necessarily. AirPrint uses a protocol separate from the communication protocol used for the Extreme's USB port. The HP printer may disable AirPrint when its USB port connected to a valid device, which is my reason for recommending you use it wirelessly.

AirPrint printers connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported.
AirPrint printers connected by Ethernet are supported in OS X.

HP's Mac support has always been miserable though. I have been much happier since I abandoned HP and started buying Brother printers. They just work.

HT2421 If I attach a hard drive to the USB port, can I access it from the wired network, while simultaneously creating a separate wifi network with NO access to the hard drive?

I already have a wireless network (call it Network A) with connectivity to various wired and wireless devices. I have a USB hard drive that I directly attach to my MacBook Air. I use it for Time Machine backups and general storage. I would like to move this drive to an AirPort Extreme. I would like to continue to be able to reach it via Network A, but also use the AirPort to create a guest Network (Network B). I don't want the guest network to access the hard drive.
Now, I know I can plug a hub into the USB port and put (I hear up to 3) hard drives on it. Can I determine which ones are accessable by Network A, and by Network B?

Several things to consider.
You cannot create a wireless network for guests if the AE is bridged. It has to be the main router in the network.
You cannot use the existing TM backups on the USB drive.. if you plug into a network it will need to be wiped.. and only AC model can produce reliable TM backups.. the earlier models are not reliable for TM backups.

These two factors alone may be enough to make you reconsider.
If you can create a guest network.. and you can overcome the limitations of airdisks.. then any person on the guest network should not be able to access the disk drive.. but if you wish to go ahead Bob Timmons might be able to confirm it.. I stay away from USB drives on routers.. I do not and will not use a router as a NAS.. it is underpowered and simply unsuitable long term.. a cheap single disk NAS is many times faster.. more reliable.. and has a marvellous thing called backup.. no USB disk or even internal disk in a TC can back itself up. .nor can TM backup network drives.. so any data you store on a USB drive is going to be gone one day.. unless you go to great lengths to back it up .. to where.. another USB drive plugged into another router somewhere.. the definition of slow.. should be copying files between two usb drives in an apple network using wireless. You will experience new levels of pain and suffering.. likened to the belly of the Sarlacc.

How can I play itunes music through one of the usb ports on my new MacBook Air?

I just purchased my first Mac product I want to be able to play music from the itunes app from one of my usb ports to the usb port on the front panel of my Yamaha CD changer. I want to utilize the buit-in DAC of the Yamaha. A friend was able to run his Ipad through it but I can't see a way to run my MacBook Air through it. When I go to System Preferences -> Hardware -> Sound the only item listed for Output is "Internal Speakers".
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Reset the SMC and PRAM
SMC Reset:
Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM:
Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
