Downloading my preexisting copy of Lion on MacBookAir

I own Lion. It came with my 2011 MacBook Air.
I therefore have the right to a copy of Lion, to e.g. install on other Machines owned by me.
However when I on the same Machine go to Mac App Store,
I find I am not able to download the OS (see Fig. 1).
I don’t even see it in my Purchases List (=„Einkaufe“).
The Solution People typically pose is:
“check out Purchases and it should be there” — Not in my Case.
“attempt to Purchase it and it will give you the Option to download it again.” — Not in my Experience.
How can I obtain a Copy of what I already own?
Figure 1. What I see in App Store, when Lion is searched for.

I am not positive that the license that came with the OS on your new computer allows you to install it on every computer you own.  If you purchased the OS through the App Store, then you might be allowed that.
In any case, you probably want the Lion USB Recovery app, which will allow you to build a USB boot stick to re-install Lion on your machine assuming the drive totally fails and you put in a replacement drive.  That would allow you to then install Lion on more machines.

I am unable to download my copy of lion or moutain lion in order to upgrade my 2006 macbook!

What is exactly is the problem?
If you are signed into the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID that purchased them then they should be listed under the Purchases tab and be available for download unless they are already on the computer then it will say "Downloaded". In that case they will most likely be in your Applications folder. If not use Spotlight to find them.

  • Download a purchased copy of lion

One of my Macs is still on Snow Leopard because I have some projects in software that is not supported in the next versions of the operating system.
I purchased Lion quite some time ago, but never installed it. I clicked on the package and realized at the last minute that I'd better check that software. Glad I did, but now that I'm  ready to install it, as I work my way up to Mavericks. (As suggested by several sources so I don't lose information. My problem is I can't re-download Lion any more because it isn't available in downloads any more. Where can I get a copy?
Can I just move on to Mountain Lion without installing Lion first? I'd really prefer to make a bootable copy of each of these as I go along. Unfortunately it's too late for Lion since I opened the package when I first purchased it.

How and where do I get a redemption code? I just downloaded it when I bought it. Is that the same as a serial number?
Lion shows under my purchases in the app store, but when I hit download from there, it goes to a screen that says it's no longer available for download.

Download again, move the existing file out of the applications folder first.

  • I have been charged 3 times to my iTunes account for downloading a copy of Lion. Anyone know why this is?

Since downloading my copy of Lion 2 days ago, I have been charged 3 times for it.  Apple have taken an extra 2 payments of $29.99 out of my account.

  • How do i make abackup copy of Lion with a UBS2?

I am thinking about downloading Lion, i do not have a external harddrive. So i need to make a backup copy. I have a brand new unused Kingston USB. Once i have copied the software to the USB, where do I install it from? The copy on my USB? Or the original on my desktop? If you can offer any advice on this procedure, I would be grateful because i hardly ever download, and i've never copied anything of this importance before.

When you download Lion it will put the installer in your Applications folder and present you with an 'install Lion window'. Before clicking on the install screen copy the Lion installer to the USB drive (USB drive needs to have at least 4gb of available space). Eject the USB stick and continue with the installation. Once the Lion install is finished the installer in the applications folder will disappear so you are wise to copy it first.
Edit: As a side note, from your description it sounds as though you don't have an external back-up of all the important data on your Mac. I'd really recommend getting an external and at least keep a Time Machine backup.
Legend has it that there are two types of disk drive - one that has failed and one that hasn't failed yet. Having a backup in place will save you a world of pain. I know this for a fact .

  • How to make a copy of lion on disc

bought a new mac pro with lion installed and i want to make a copy of lion so when my hard drive goes bad i can install it whith a disc.

    Here you go:
OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant
The procedure describes how to create a bootable USB flash drive, but the procedure to create a bootable DVD is similar. A DVD will take much, much longer to boot, so the USB flash drive method is preferred.
By the way, realize that you do not need to do this if your HD needs to be replaced. As long as you have a fairly fast wireless connection you need nothing else. The download itself might take one or two hours on a ± 10 Mbps connection.

  • HT4718 My copy of Lion is damaged and can't be used for reinstallation, what can i do?

when I launch Lion Recovery and try to reinstall the OS, there is a message that says that my copy of lion is damaged and can't be used for reinstallation. what can I do?

Sorry but that makes no sense.
The Lion install files are not stored on your computer so they can't be damaged. When using the Lion Recovery HD and you want to Re-Install Lion the install files are downloaded from the internet before the actual install begins.
If at one time you saved the Lion install files, secifically the InstallESD.DMG, and created your own Lion Install USB thumb drive and that is what you are booting from then this same type of thing has happened to me.
If you can't boot to the current Lion install, or you wiped your hard drive, you can try booting to the included Recovery HD and then download and install Lion or try the Online Internet Recovery HD system by holding down the Command+r keys OR the Command+Option+r keys when starting the system. One of those keyboard combos will take you to the online Lion Recovery system where you can download and install Lion.

  • How can i buy a second copy of Lion from the App store?

I have a number of Macs at home. one is a 8 core Nehalem  running 10.6.8 I tried a number of time to buy a copy of Lion to install and it will not let me, it says I have already installed it (i have but on another computer) I talked to the Genius' at the local Apple store and he told me I could buy it for $69 on a USB stick and install it. I pointed out to him that if the app store was working correctly I could get it for $29, at that point he had no more genius answers  other than "call Apple"
I know i can take my download from the first purchase and install on my second system and everything will work, but I want to stay legal and buy the second copy(for $29.99)any suggestions other than "Call Apple" ?

When you say "Authorized"  you mean in the sense of Itunes Store Authorized? if so the system in Question is authorized it is my primary Workstation and was waiting until iCloud came out to update to Lion. My MBP , and 2006 MP are all running Lion and are part of the 5 systems "authorized". I did not run into this issue with either the MBP or the MP when i installed and I bought two copies at the same time on my the first day Lion was available.
Do you know the mechanism with which the App Store tracks purchases on different computers prior to iCloud coming out?
once again thanks for your response

  • I need a copy of Lion

So it's like this. I bought an IPad. To use it for digital photography I need a computer to download the pictures to from the ICloud. This computer must run Lion. Fair enough. My late 2006 Macbook can, according to the documentation, run this with a 2 GByte memory. So I upgrade it the memory and then try and download it to do the upgrade. However it is no longer downloadable because it has been replaced by Mountain Lion, which, alas, my elderly Macbook will not run. So I really need to get a copy of Lion from somewhere. Can anyone give me a clue as to where. I would like it to be a legal copy.
Whilst I abandonded Microsoft software for serious use some while back it is notable that their policy of selling and supporting previous versions is more customer friendly than Apple's appears to be.
    TIA
    Steve

    Try here >  http://www.apple.com/uk/contact/
But I presume you are telling me I can still buy a copy from Apple.
Lion can be purchased from Apple in the U.S. Not sure about the UK. Try the contact numbers at that link.

  • Installing Second Copy of Lion on VM

I just purchased a Mac mini with Lion installed and I can't seem to simply download a second copy from the App Store.  I'd like to take advantage of the new OS license terms and install a second copy of Lion in a VM to serve as a test bed for my software development work.  Does anybody know how I can get a free second copy of Lion to install on my VM?

  • I recently purchased a copy of Lion, will I be eligible for a free upgrade of Mountain Lion?

I recently purchased a copy of Lion, will I be eligible for a free upgrade of Mountain Lion?

    no, sorry.
However, Lion has some great features in and of itself!
you will have to purchase it for 20 dollars in the app store (USA price) to upgrade to ML, the redemption codes that you may be reacting to are for people who recently purchased a computer and were told that they would be able to receive a free download of ML when it is released to make sure their computers are up to date.
This allows apple to release the hardware before the latest software, but still offer the latest software for free, because they're cool like that .
    I hope this helps

  • Hi, how I format the drive and install a fresh copy of Lion?

Hi, I have a Lion installed on a Mackbook Pro 2011, I had Leopard, then Snow Leopard and then Lion, but with so many instalations without formating the system is not working well, I am using an iMac at work with a clean install and is much more stable.
How can I format the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion???

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Installing My Copy of Lion on My Wife's Computer

    Hi there
I bought Max OS X 10.7 Lion from the App Store. However, I have found Lion to be quite sluggish on my 4+ year old iMac. As such I have reverted back to Snow Leopard.
My question, can I install my copy of Lion on my wife's iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

I believe I have the most RAM it can accept, 4GB. Apart from an external Time Machine/backup drive, I have another external drive with software downloads and media from friends - both USB 2 drives.
Ninety-nine percent of the things I use are stored on the built-in iMac drive.
I suspect some of the new Lion features are slowing it down (such as the ability to save versions of documents and the ability to save an application's state). Performance was fine previously on Snow Leopard and earlier.
For the record my iMac was bought in November 2007; specs are:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    iMac drive: 316GB (135GB available)
    (Any suggestions appreciated tho)
