Downloading old purchases onto new computer

I have just bought a new computer after my laptop died. Will I be able to download the purchases I have made on  my old laptop onto my new computer or will I have to buy all the albums again?

It depends on what country that you are in as to whether you can re-download them for free : re-downloading. If you are not in a country where you can currently re-download past music purchases then if they are on your iPod then you should be able to copy them to your new computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, otherwise have you got a backup of your purchases on, for example, an external drive that you can copy to your computer ?

  • How do you re-download recent purchases onto new computer

Recently had computer refurbished with a new hard drive and I wish to re-download a recent purchase from itunes with out having to pay for it again. The new itunes 10 mentions this is possible, but does not give instructions on how to do it. If anyone know, appreciate your help.

Update iTunes to 10.3.1    iTunes 10.3.1
After it's installed, launch iTunes. Select iTunes store in the source list on the left then click Purchased "new" under Quick Links on the right. You can re download your iTunes purchases in the next window without re purchasing.
Always a good idea to backup your iTunes media.

  • I tried to download old purchases onto my ipod on my pc screen it popped up with this "You can download past purchases on this computer with just one apple IDevery 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different apple ID for 6 days"

Help is needed i payed a lot for my purchases !!!

You can use multiple AppleIDs to purchase new music but you are limited as to how frequently you can change authorizations for re-downloading  past purchases.  It may well be a measure to deter piracy by stopping a group of people from going around to a friend's computer and downloading purchases on the other person's computer.  It is easy to avoid by making sure you have backup copies on drives at home so you never need to redownload anything.

  • How to transfer old purchases to new computer?

We had a computer with a lot of downloaded movies, albums, singles, etc. and that computer is no longer working so we got a new one and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get my purchase history onto my new computer without rebuying anything.

Restore it from a backup, put the old computer's hard drive into an enclosure and copy the files off, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes if they're on an iPod or similar Apple device, or click here and ask.

  • How to get old purchases on new computer

I purchased a new PC Win7 based.  Loaded iTunes and now need to know how to load/find all my prior purchases.

What you can re-download depends partly on what country you are in. As long as they are still available in the store and you use the same iTunes as you originally used to buy/download then, them ibooks and apps can be re-downloaded for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . You should also be able to re-download music and tv shows if you are in the US. Films are a one-time only download.
If you've still got your old computer then you can copy them over from that : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Otherwise have you got a backup of your content on, for example, an external drive or CDs/DVDs that you can copy onto your new computer and then load into its iTunes.

  • Computer destroyed .. how to get purchases onto new computer

I'm pretty much computer illiterate except for surfing the internet and using Word.
I purchased several songs from itunes onto a computer which was destroyed (fire). I have a new computer (Latitude with Windows XP) and although I see all my old purchases listed when i look up my account, I don't know how to get them onto my new computer.
    Can someone help me? Thanks.

Click here and fill out the form to ask for a free redownload; if your request isn't granted, you need to purchase the songs again to get them back.
Apple pays the copyright holders for each download from the iTunes Store other than podcasts and album artwork.

  • Downloading Itunes again onto new computer, protecting current library

Hi, first of all my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum. Please let me know if I am, and where I should post my question/problem.
First of all I'm quite new to Itunes and the Ipod. I received an Ipod Nano 3rd generation as a gift several months ago. On my old computer (Dell Desktop, Windows XP), I had downloaded Itunes, had no trouble keeping my library and syncing the Ipod each time I needed to, or whenever I charged my Ipod. I also had my Ipod registered on my Itunes. My problem is I don't have access to my old computer any longer. I recently had to abruptly change computers. I'm currently using Toshiba laptop and Windows XP. Can I download Itunes again onto this new computer and register my Ipod again? If I do this, how can I ensure I don't lose my current library. I have less than 500 songs at present, but I don't want to lose all the music I paid for. But I don't want to mess anything up by registering my Ipod again. Am I making sense? I'm going to need to charge my Ipod soon, so if anyone has any ideas to help me, I'd appreciate it. Also, I didn't have any way to backup my Itunes library by burning to disc. Eventually, I'll be acquiring another laptop, a Dell laptop that will be using Windows Xp also. Sorry if this is confusing. I'm confused myself, lol!

*Can I download Itunes again onto this new computer and register my Ipod again*
Yes you can download the iTunes program onto your new computer, you don't need to register the iPod over again to use it on another computer.
*how can I ensure I don't lose my current library*
If your iPod is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
*Also, I didn't have any way to backup my Itunes library by burning to disc.*
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

    Hi, duffer dave!
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The first thing to know, it is extremely important to keep a back-up that can move more freely than using your iPod as "storage". An external hard-drive is the best way to keep your library in tact, in case you are visiting a friend, or changing computers.
This article will show you how to. Keep in mind you can ONLY transfer songs purchased by the account you authorize, and apps are free to re-download at any time. All of your other content will be deleted once you sync to the new computer. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848

  • Itunes won't sync old Itunes onto new computer.

I just got a new computer and installed Itunes and signed in. My library had nothing there. I authorized the computer, and deauthorized my old computer. I plugged my ipod into my new computer, and it recognized it,  but didn't update my empty library. I clicked on "On This Ipod" and all my music from my old library was there. I looked at the summary of syncing at the music section, and it will empty my ipod completely and put my empty library on my ipod, and I do not want that. My question is, how do I get my old library onto my new computer?

when I click my iphone, everything is blank.
Do you mean there's no text in the summary pages?

  • Cannot get my iPad purchases onto new computer

My Mac died and when I was migrating into the new one from a backup I seem to have entered the wrong user name in iTunes, which generated a new account.
The email address for the old account no longer exists and I cannot update it to my new one because this is associated with the second empty account which hasn't been set ut with any credit cards or anything. The second irroneous account cannot be deleted and only it can be associated with my only email address.
So I now have an iPad, filled with things I have bought that are not synced to the Mac. I get an option to erase the iPad and overwrite it with an older version from my computer, using an old email address that no longer exists as user name , or to erase the iPad and start anew with the irroneous account which has the correct email address but no content.
I seem to be too old to understand computers anymore. I need help.

I keep my itunes library in on an external drive, so I don't have this problem.  To get the files to your new computer, simply copy them into a location of your choosing.  This can either be in the music/itunes folder, or somewhere completely different.  Then go to the advanced tab in Itunes preferences.  Make sure the copy to itunes folder location checkbox, and the keep itunes organized checkbox are selected.  If you put the files into the original itunes folder simply hit reset.  Otherwise click the change location, and browse to your new music folder.  Itunes will then automatically start adding the files into your library.

  • Downloading punlished website onto new computer

Currently my harddrive died and I had no backup, I had published my iweb site on my i disk. Can I get it to my new computer from there to continue working on it?
    Please help!

You cannot edit published pages with iWeb.
You can leave your published pages unchanged on your server while you recreate your site with iWeb.
All of your unpublished work is in a single file called "domain" This is the only thing that iWeb can edit.
If you have a tremendous amount of time invested in the site you could try a data recovery service.
In the future keep your "domain" file backed up (often) somewhere other than the hard drive.
I keep my working "domain" file on a flash drive (that I keep on my car key chain in my pocket) and back it up to two different computers regularily. I work directly from the flash drive on two different computers and don't have to worry about which file is the most recent.
