Downloading/Opening a Presenter File on a Mac

Hello,
We design educational programming and have used Adobe Presenter for as long as we've been in operation in order to deliver slides that teachers can download to use in their classroom, but that are also delivered in a secure way.
Here is an example:  https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8b716b885f606fad9ba4
Recently we've recieved a flurry of emails from users saying they are unable to open the files on their systems.  We know the relationship between Adobe and Apple can be touchy, but until recently we had no problem whatsoever with users that ran on Mac operating systems downloading and using the files (this is our third year using Presenter in this way).
Does anyone know if there is a direct or workaround solution for this?
If there is not, can anyone recommend an alternative program that will allow teachers to use a "slide" function, but will also allow us to deliver the files in a way that does not allow them to be edited?
I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts on this issue!

Hi Kyle,
I downloaded the PDF from the shared location and checked it on  MAC (Lion 10.7). I am able to play the presentation properly.
Please let me know  following details:-
1) Which version of Preseter you are using for publishing this presentation and
2) Which Presenter version you used for earlier presentation when there were no cutomer issues.
3) Secondly, on which Mac version do we see this issue?
Another point I want to mention is please ask your users to use Adobe Reader 9 or later for viewing the file. For older version of Adobe Reader is not supported.
Regards,
Shubhi

I downloaded the new version of bridge and it wont open the raw files on my mac.

hello and thank you for your suggestion. I have tried it and, when trying to open a program which I previously was able to, still get the following message:
    Remote XUL
This page uses an unsupported technology that is no longer available by default in Firefox.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
Seems unbelievable that I previously had no problem and now I do. Have you any suggestions to overcome this? Do you think I can go back further in Firefox history to get a version that will make it possible to access this. Many thanks! Lynn

  • HT1338 I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to.  I downloaded osx mountain lion and it still doesn't work.  any suggestions?

I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to open them.  It was suggested that I get OS Mountain Lion and I did.  still can't.  Any ideas?

You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • Can anybody help me to open a .dmg file on my MAC OS 9.2.2.

Can anybody help me to open a .dmg file on my MAC OS 9.2.2. the file is a Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger Boot Disk which i would like to run along side OS 9.2.2

Rincewind is correct is saying that DiskCopy 6.3.3 can mount many .dmg images on the desktop (thanks for the correction, R.). He is also correct in saying their contents will generally run only in OS X.
Interestingly, I find by testing that Disk Copy 6.4 and 6.5b11 are unable to mount several .dmgs that 6.3.3 mounts OK.
Trying to install OS X from a disk image that has been burned to disk in OS 9 is going to be a fool's errand, I'm afraid. Buy the correct installer disc set.

  • Opening video (MPEG) files on a Mac

I recently switched from a PC to IMac. Transferred all my video files to my Mac but each time I try to open one I am told it can not be opened as Quicktime does not recognize the file. Any help appreciated

VLC (free app) should do it: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
    or Perian: http://perian.org/#download

  • Opening a .mov file on a Mac across a Windows network causes hang

QuickTime player hangs when I try to open a .mov file on a networked Mac OSX machine from my Windows XP machine. This happens 80-90% of the time; that is, not every time, but most of the time.
I've tried this from 2-3 different machines, and get the same result.
Interesting thing is that, if I'm viewing the directory that the .mov file comes from in Windows Explorer, Windows Explorer also hangs - so it looks like something bad in going on in the Windows networking layer.
File opens fine when I open it locally or on another Windows machine on the network.
We're actually accessing the QT SDK from an app we're developing. We first noticed this behavior in our app, and decided to see if we could repro the problem in QT player. Sure enough, we could.
Is there somewhere else I can log this message so that it will come to the attention of the SDK group? This a major problem for our app that I need to resolve one way or another.

A MOV. file can be anything.
I would suggest you download and install Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.

  • Cannot open any Java files on my Mac OSX: Problem Solved

    Hello all,
I have just begun an Introduction to Java class and I'm already having problems...namely, I cannot open .java files on my Mac.
Whenever I try to open them, I get an error message that says: "You cannot use this version of the application Xcode with this version of Mac OS X."
I'm running version 10.5.4 on a PowerPC Mac. It's a few years old, but I don't understand how it could already be so outdated as to not allow me to even use the application.
I am 100% new to programming and don't really know at all what I'm doing. Apple says their JDK comes with every Mac and no one else seems to be having this problem. I don't really even know where to go to for updates, if that is what I need to do, or if I should just download a different JDK.
This is an intensive (6-week) class and I don't want to fall behind, but it's halfway through the first week and I cannot even open files.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I figured out the problem by getting out my installation disks and I found the latest xCode tools app in the "optional packages" folder.
Installed it and now I'm up and running.

  • How do I open a "SNP" file on my Mac

A Windows-using colleague of mine just sent me information in a .snp file, but my Mac won't open it. Does anybody know of any Mac application that opens this type of file?
    Thanks.

Thank you. I realize that it's a Microsoft file. I just thought that there might be some Mac software out there that would open this type of Microsoft file.

  • Why can't I open my .ai file on a Mac that I made on a Microsoft Windows pc?

I am using a trial version of Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 on a Microsoft Windows 7 pc at work and neither my teacher nor myself could open the .ai file on Macs? Was that a fluke or more likely a recurring problem and is there a solution?

Try saving the PC version as an .eps file with a Preview > 8-bit Macintosh in the Save As dialog box.  It could be the preview format.  Another option would be to Save As > Adobe PDF on the PC and see if you can open that on the Mac.  You may have to open the PDF using Acrobat > Save As > Postscript or even EPS.  Then try opening that using the Mac.  You could also try Preview ( Mac ) > Open > Save As > look for something that will open in Illustrator like PDF.

  • Finder does not open when a file passes over (mac os X 10.8.3)

Just installed mac os 10.8.3 mountain lion. As such, it seems with this OS X version the "finder" does not open when a file passes over (in order to move it from desktop).
The screen dims a little and nothing else happens.
How can I recover the "finder" functionality that apparently doesn not exist anymore?
Is it something wrong that I am doing?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Opening a .EXE file on a Mac?

Is there any way to to pen up a file published as an .EXE file on a Mac?

The file was made in the PC version of Captivate and the published file has an .EXE suffix on it. I did try changing the suffix to .app but that didn't work either. Is there any way to open the file up in the Mac version of Captivate?

  • Open an idvd file by new mac mini

can i open my old idvd and iMove project files by my new Mac Mini?

    my new Mac Mini?
New Macs doen't come with iDVD nor with optical drives.  You'll need to purchase iDVD and and external optical drive if you want to author and burn video DVDs with iDVD.
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Opening an .exe files on a MAC. Please Help!!!!!!!

I have a disk that comes with one of my textbooks for school and the application i need to run with excel as a problem slover is an .exe (bundle). Is it possible to open this file at all on my MAC or am i just out of luck?

If you want to run a Windows executable file, you'll need windows to do it...
You do have a few options:
1 buy a Mac application such as Paralells which lets you run Windows inside Mac Os
2 if you ran Windows before you had a Mac and still have the disk, use Boot Camp so you can run both OS
3 ask your school if there's a Mac version of the disc available (probably a long shot)
4 find a friend with a Pc and use theirs!
    Hope this helps?
