Downloading photos from camera into Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer

I like to download photos into my organizer after each session...when i do so I'm using the same card as older photos because I've not yet filled the card and have not needed to begin using a new one...the organizer then duplicates download of the photos already in organizer as well as new ones...the process continues every time i download new photos...i don't remember this happening using the PC version...Now I'm working with a MacBook...Any suggestions on how to stop duplicate downloads with an Apple?  Thanks

The original RX100 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.2. Elements 11 shipped with 7.1.

  • How do I download images from a camera into Photoshop Elements 7?

Previously I've  downloaded digital images directly from my camera into Photoshop Elements 7.0  In trying to do that today, I go to "File", choose "Get pictures from Camera", then see a "source" box, with an instruction to "Get Pictures from:" and offers a "source" box for choosing.  The single "source" listed is my printer, not my camera!  Am I doing something wrong? Is Photoshop defective?
    Please help me out.
    Gene F.

    Hi Gene
    Yes Elements is defective.
There are known bugs with the photo downloader, notably if you run the program on a net book or laptop with minimum screen resolution.
Go to the control panel and check dpi scaling under Appearance or Display.
It’s not uncommon to see a setting of 125% or higher to improve screen readability but PSE9 requires a dpi of 96 or 100%
Whilst the Editor Menu will appear at 120% the Organizer Menu (and the advanced button in downloader) will not.
Try a setting of 115% or 116% otherwise 100%. A common display resolution, notably for laptops and netbooks is 1024 x 768 but PSE9 requires a screen height of 800 for full functionality.

  • Opening photo from bridge into photoshop converts to smart object

Instead of opening the psd-file normally from bridge into photoshop the file converts to smart object.
I used to work with CS3 where double-clicking in Bridge on a psd-file would open it in Photoshop. Now, when I double click in Bridge (CS6) it opens a "quick time pro" file, which I definitely don't want. When I use the right mouse to "place in Photoshop" it does so, but then automatically converts the file into a smart object, which I don't want either. What need I do to open a psd-file in Bridge as normal psd-file in Photoshop?
    Thanks in advance for help.

    Hi C. Pfaffenbichler
yes, there is a "Photoshop Document" in the list, but it has not
association. when I click on the little arrow on that line it "searches"
and shows all the files in the "program X86" on the C-drive. but I don't
know what to associate it with, or said differently, I don't know what file
in "programX86" to associate it with.

  • IPhoto won't download photos from camera.

iPhoto won't download photos from camera. iMac 10.6.8; iPhoto updated. No Name comes up, says "downloading," but color wheel only goes round and round. I've let it go on for 20" to no avail. Only way to get out of iPhoto then is to Force Quit. Tried downloading pictures through a Card Reader with same results.
Same camera, same procedure for last 5 years and never had this problem. Thanks for any advice.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

Will the camera mount to the desktop?
When did you last reformat the card?

  • Problems downloading photos from camera to iPhoto

All -- I'm running iPhoto 6 on a Mac Mini with the latest version of OS10. I have a Canon PowerShot G3 and shoot 4-megapixel JPEG photos, and AVI movies. Downloading photos from the G3 to the Mac is slow, and deadly slow (as is 15 minutes or more) when there's an AVI movie or two mixed in with JPEGs. I've had to abort several downloads when they just flat out stalled.
Today when downloading a total of 58 JPEGs and 6 AVI's I got an error message - "unreadable files". 51 JPEGS and 3 AVIs downloaded fine. 7 JPEGS and 3 AVIs didn't download. The error message says "The following files could not be imported. They may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data."
Any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.
    Greg

Isn't technology great? The more you learn, the more you need to learn more.
Have you viewed the iPhoto 6 tutorials? http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/iphoto/new.html The section on Organizing, "Add Ratings, Titles and Comments" could be helpful.
Click on the little blue i on the lower left of the iPhoto window, and the Info Panel should pop up. Select a picture, and it shows the info for it. Select a film roll's name, and you can see and edit the info for the whole roll. Click on the roll's title in the info panel to highlight it and you can type in a new name. You can edit the date of the roll this way, and it will affect how your rolls are listed in the library. The dates "from" and "to" are generated by the dates of the items within the roll. If you type comments about a roll they will be shown below the roll's name in the library when the roll is closed. I like to keep rolls that match my camera cards, but they can be very large. So I use comments to list the events contained in the roll, so I know which roll to open when I want to find a specific photo.
If you view your library in Film Roll view then you see the rolls' names with a little triangle to the left. As in the Finder, clicking on the triangle to make it point right conceales the contents of (closes) an item, while clicking on it to turn it down reveals the items inside the item.
Now the hard part - all those dates. If the dates and times are totally wrong, I would use iPhoto's Batch change to correct them. However, only iPhoto will recognize this date change, because it won't correct the real problem, which is that the EXIF info is wrong for those pictures. There are ways of changing EXIF info which involve downloading other programs, running batch changes, and re-imprting into iPhoto. I've never done it, but I searched the iPhoto 6 forum for "EXIF rename file info" and restricted by user name Old Toad. Try this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1734147&#1734147 and note Old Toad's last post about PhotoInfo.
If you don't mind about the EXIF, then you can just redate them within iPhoto. Select a series of photos from the same date, then go to the Photos menu and select Batch Change. Select Set Date. Type the correct date and give a time for the first picture. To force iPhoto to maintain the same order within the series, check Add 1 minute between each photo. This way, although the times will be wrong, at least they will have the correct chronological sequence. (Or type in the times manually after the batch change if the order is not correct.) I always do this with rolls of actual film I get processed at a store. The photo CD I get never has the correct dates or times, so I add these to at least get them to display in my library in the correct order. As far as I know, you have to run a seperate batch change for each date that you want to change to. Unless you have a series with one photo for each day and wish to check "Add X Days between each photo."

  • IPhoto will not longer download photos from camera or memory card

Ok, I have iPhoto '08 and a Nikon D70 camera. This morning I went to download photos from the camera and it was slower than usual to connect to the computer. All the photos show up as usual but when I click to import them I get a message and it can't download any of the photos because they are an unknown format.
I took the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader and got the same message.
Neither the camera OR the card reader showed up as a device when I ran the image transfer app.
Using the card reader and the Finder, I was able to copy all the pictures to a folder which I was then able to import into iPhoto. After than I used the camera to reformat the card and took a test picture and got the same error messages.
    So, any ideas?

I found a solution in a couple of other threads. The main problem is when you start iPhoto from the dock, the unix process is owned by root, and not as it should be, by you. If you start iPhoto from the Terminal by entering /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto, iPhoto is able to import the images.
I don't believe that starting the applications from Terminal is a good solution, so I looked for another - reinstalling Leopard seems to be the best option, and it actually works. I can now import images to iPhoto again.

  • How can I pull photos from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them?

Uploaded some photos on my new Apple Mini (I'm converting from Windows to Mac) and they uploaded fine - but then I couldn't see how to get them from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them. Surely they must automatically save but if so, where??

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Cannot load iPhoto Library nor download photos from camera

Upon reading most of the forums I have come to the conclusion that I have screwed up iPhoto Library by moving and deleting photos. Now Iphoto, verson 2.0 will not load the library nor download photos from an attached camera. It just remains a blank slate. I just did a clean install of OS 10.3 and downloaded all upgrades. Everything works except iPhoto. Reason I did all the didling with the library was that I have 25 Gigs of photos and my hardrive was too full. I still have over 15 Gig of photos on the drive and cannot view them. Prior to the Clean install of OS 10.3 Iphoto worked fine. I have purchased an external hard drive and now think I must do the following:
    1. Format the new hard drive
    2. Move the present iphoto library to the external hard drive. I have to do this as I still have no room on my hard drive. Move the old library out of picture folder.
    3. Open Iphoto. Now it supposedly will ask me where the library is. I will show iPhoto where it is on external drive. Question, iPhoto does not recognize the library now so why should it when I show where it has been moved to?? Do I just move iPhoto library folder or the complete Picture folder?? Also when I hold down the shift and option keys while opening Iphoto to rebuild the library why should it as iphoto stil does not recognize its library??
    4. Somewhere on the discussions I read that I have to hold down option key to get a new iPhoto Library. Can I do this and after creating new library have Iphoto download all albums from old renamed iphoto library??
Sorry for all the stupid questions. These photos are kids, grandkids and great grandkids, family pictures, etc. It would be devastating to me to loose these. Any help would be appreciated. Than ks

    theolddog:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You will not be able to resurrect your old library due to the renaming and moving of files within the iPhoto Library folder. You'll have to create a new library and import the full sized image files from the old library folder. Here's what you'll need to do:
1 - open the old iPhoto library folder and type Command-F (find). Then set the following search criteria.
    a. Name contains ".jpg"
    b. Size is greater than 100 KB.
2 - in the search window will be all of the thumbnail files that do don't want to import into the new library. So select them all and drag to the trash.
3 - launch iPhoto with the option key depressed and create a new library.
4 - use the File->Import menu option to select the old library folder and import all of the image files contained therein. You won't get any of the small thumbnail files since you removed them earlier.
That should do it. You'll probably have more rolls then you had before so you'll have to consolidate photos into fewer rolls. In the future Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. That's the cardinal sin of iPhoto.

  • How do you get your photos from iPhoto into Photoshop?  Am I just duumb

How do I move my photos from iPhoto to Photoshop?  I am feeling really dumb right now.

    Hi Gramo5,
    Please follow the below steps.
In the Finder, navigate to your iPhoto package file. By default, it's located in /Users/[user name]/Pictures, and it's called iPhoto Library.
Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
A Finder window opens that shows the contents of the package file. The Masters folder contains all of the photos that are in iPhoto.
Control-click the folder named Masters and choose Duplicate.
Drag the folder named "Masters copy" from the iPhoto Library Finder window to your Desktop and then you can import the pictures to Photoshop from the desktop.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

  • Elements 5.0 Organizer Freezing when I try to download photos from camera

I am trying to download pictures from my vacation.  I plugged in my camera like usual, and when I select for my pictures to be downloaded in photoshop, everything freezes.  Then I went into organizer - which I could open - but when I go to get photos - it freezes there too.  I tried 2 different cameras - so I don't hinink it is just my camera.  I usually download pictures a couple times per week.  Any advise?

  • How can I get photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements?

I installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my new MacBook Pro because I want to do some additional editing.  I have 800 pictures that I downloaded into iPhoto before I purchased PSE.
How can I open the pictures in PSE?
The instructions on the PSE website do not seem to refer to the version of iPhoto I have (the screens and menus are different.

I used this advice and was able to open the some photos in iPhoto and edit in PSE.   I would like to save them to another file, outside iPhoto.   Is that possible?
Sure - save As istead of save - then the edited [photo will not be in iPhoto but will be where you put it
I would also like to open PSE and open the files from PSE, possible?
You can - use the open command and the media browser - look in the lower left hadn corner of the open windos under media  ==> photos  ==> iPhoto - but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Perhaps I need to move the photos out of iPhoto and then open with PSE.
Again you can do that - select the photo in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) and work on the exported photos - again
but why use iPhoto at all if you do not want your photos in iPhoto - if you do the edits this way you will not have them in iPhoto
Just now learning Mac, so I think I may still be thinking in PC.
It is not so much Mac vs PC but database photo management vs file management - the iPhoto database structure is infinantly more powerful that an file approach like you used on a PC
