Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

When your iPad is connected, select your iPad under devices in iTunes. There will be a photos tab, and you can either sync everything or choose certain events/albums etc

Cannot see downloaded photos in iPhoto library

I downloaded photos from my new camera into iPhoto. They are in the Library (can see them in package contents) but they do not appear in the library itself. How do I resolve this? Also the same situation with some downloads from earlier this year, with a different camera. (In was not able to use the migration manager for my new iMac as the HD died around the same time, so I brought photos in from a backup copy) Help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you see any indication of the photos in iPhoto, i.e. a thumbnail or blank thumbnail, etc.? Do you see a folder in the library package with Import in the folder name?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Download Photos from iPhoto to iPhone?

When I switched over from my old iPhone to a new iPhone 6, I synched on iTunes, but none of my photos on the old phone came over, and they all disappeared from iTunes. THey are all still on my old phone, and I was able to load the old photos into iPhoto. But now I cannot figure out how to gett hem onto my new iPhone?

SO now I have all my photos in iPhoto, and shared them all on my account in iCloud. But they show up nowhere on my iPhone. I have gone into settings, and in iCloud have turned on sharing, have "Upload to my Photo Stream" turned on, and the iCloud photo library turned on, which says that it is suposed to automatically upload my photos & videos. But they are nowhere to be found in my Photo stream. AND when I tried to upload videos to the cloud I got a message saying that I can only upload jog's, not videos.
SO I've still been unable to see my old photos that were on my iPhone 4S.

Problems downloading photos from iPhoto to iPod 5G classic

Until recently I had no problems downloading my photo library to my iPod (~250 photos). However, the last couple of groups of photos I've gotten I cannot transfer. I get an error message that reads "The iPod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." My last 3 rolls do not transfer to the iPod, although all the other photos do as well as all songs, movies, calendars, etc. Everything else is OK just the last 3 photo rolls. 2 of the 3 problem rolls were gathered from emails, but so were others that load fine. The last roll was downloaded from the BART website and will not transfer.
Anybody know what's up with this?

Before I download iphoto library manager, I just wanted to report an interesting experiment that I tried last night that may point in a different direction:
I keep my iphoto library on a second internal HD, so I thought I would just try making a complete copy of my iphoto library onto my desktop. Once I did this, I started up iPhoto with alt and choose the desktop version of the library and all worked perfectly, my iphoto albums showed instantly in my photo tab in itunes when I selected to sync with iphoto.
My next move was to rename my old library and then copy my desktop version into the folder where the old library is. Once I did this the problem was back again.
I have no reason to believe that it is the second disc that is causing the problem, as that is where I have always kept my itunes and iphoto libraries and they have worked without problem.
(As I am writing this, it dawned upon me that I missed one important test, I should have tried the old library after I had renamed it, but stil in the same place.)
I am now suspecting that the problem may be linked to an external drive that I addded to the system at Christmas. This was a WD My Book which I use for backup, the link being that I use the software that came with it to do autobackups that includes my iphoto library folder. I am wondering if this software does something to the folder.
Thoughts welcome.

Problems downloading photos into iPhoto

Attached is an example of what is happening to about 10% of the photos I am downloading to iPhoto. I tried 2 different camera and they bath had the same problem. Any ideas?

The problem started when I noticed other problems with my hard drive. I had the hard drive replaced and the problem still exists. I am running OS X Yosemite , 10.10.2. I photo version 9.6. I am shooting raw. When i first set up to download all the pictures look fine. During the download process is when the problem shows up. The first camera I noticed on was my Canon 7D. I just bought the 7D MKii and it is doing the same thing. Like I said, I have used different cards and cables but the problem still exists.

A way to automatically transfer newly downloaded photos into iPhoto?

I download load a lot of random photos and it is a pain to download them to the hard drive and then import them into iphoto. Is there a way (possibly through automator) for me (when I download a new photo) to automatically import it into iPhoto?

It is a database - not a file manager
It is not fragile - few people who follow the rules ever have a problem - the prime rule is do not ever change the contents of the iPhoto database (iPhoto library) - except with iPhoto
Hardware or software failures can damage the database and therefore is it important to have backups - but then that is true of all computer files
Why use it - the power of the database - I can show you all photos that I took in Cortona Italy in a second - or all photos of my wife and grandson taken in 2006 - or of my granddaughter at a birthday party - of gather and export for a digital frame all photos of my mother -- etc, etc, etc
Plus it makes great keepsakes (I do books of vacations now that we keep on our coffee table and look through instead of photo albums that we never go back to)
And it creates and maintains web albums
It is a fun and very powerful program
There is nothing wrong with Picasa - lots of people use it - it just is nothing like iPhoto
Before you make a decision create a small (100 - 200 photos) iPhoto library and assign faces and places and keywords and play with it - you may find that you like it
As to duplicates - it make no duplicates - it does have two or three (if you have made any modifications) versions of a photo
iPhoto maintains your original photo unchanged - the digital negative - so you always have it available - it does make a small thumbnail for display and when you modify a photo it keeps one modified version - it uses non destructive editing so each edit goes back to the digital negative eliminating the progressive degradation of an image created by multiple edits in other programs.

Automatically downloading photos to iPhoto from Mail program

I had asked this question about a year ago, and wonder if there is a new remedy! When I get photos in an email - under "Save" there is an option to save to iPhoto. When I click on that, it opens up the iPhoto program, but the photos do not transfer to iPhoto.
Any suggestions?
Another think - if I click "Save All" - it opens up to "Pictures" - I click on that and I get a choice of "iPhoto Library" (and two other folders that I created myself). I would like to save them to iPhoto Library & have them show up with all my other photos, but when I click on that, the last folder is 03 (March 2006) which is when I last posted photographs to my old home page (before iWeb & iPhoto 06). So now they show up as individual photos - not in any folders or order. And when I open up iPhoto, these photos do not show up in the iPhoto library. Do I have two iPhoto libraries by mistake? Can this be rectified?
PS I usually just drag photos from email right into iPhoto, so I can continue on without having to make any adjustments, but I was just curious as to what has happened to my original settings.

Do not put any files inside the iPhoto Library folder via the Finder? Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. iPhoto will not know they are there and it could damage the library.
If the Save to iPhoto doesn't work then save to the desktop or your designated download folder and import from there. If you have any that you've dragged into the iPhoto Library folder and can find them, move them to the desktop and import from there. Be sure that they are the ones you put there and not some that were imported properly. If there are files inside the Originals/2006 folder that are not in a subfolder they are not part of the library. Move them to the desktop and import from there. All properly imported photos will be located in subfolder within the Originals folder.

Suddenly cannot DownLoad Photos into iPhoto

I have been on the phone all day with Mac and cannot seem to get my pictures from my CF Card off my Camera or off My multi card reader.
Have tried everything ! I think ???
I even reinstalled my install discs .
I am new to Mac so please explain thoroughly .

Here are the details :
- NOTHING happens , that's the problem....
- iPhoto does not prompt me in any way to upload photos.
- there is no link on my desktop to click on instead of iPhoto like there usually is if I don't want to use iPhoto to import.
- Nothing happens, even when I pull the connection from my camera or from the card reader , I am not told that I should have "ejected" first.
-I tried image capture several times but that does not work either
-I tried using the other USB port on my laptop and that does not work .
-I have not dragged to folder because there is nothing to drag from .
Basically my laptop is refusing to recognize anything with a CF card attached to it. I did plug in my old external hardrive and my computer recognized that right away. I have tried other CF cards and that does not work .
Kinda pulling my hair out right now , with deadlines and clients waiting and the Mac people not really knowing after 4 hrs. on the phone today with no solution.
I was reading in another forum by "Toadcellar" that I should have iPhoto5 or iPhoto6 installed just in case iPhoto 8 crashes......Is this really true ??
I really dont want to complain but I feel like a juvenile here , with 10 years of PC use and now 2 months on my new Mac and all these problems.....

Downloading photos onto iphoto not from your own camera

I am trying to get some photos emailed to me by my girlfriend to open on iphoto. They are jpg photos and from the same brand of camera as mine, Sony, but these emailed photos won't open with iPhoto. Just preview. Also, previous photos from her had opened. This problem doesn't happen with just her photos, some of my friends as well.
Is there a way that I can change the format or something with the files so they will open with iPhoto. More importantly, instead of staying as Preview files, with the preview icon, I would like to be able to open Finder and see them as iPhoto style files which means as smaller versions of the actual photo.

If the files aren't locked, then I don't know why you are having problems with them. What exactly do you mean by "they won't open in iPhoto? Do you see the thumbnail for the photo, but when double clicked it doesn't open in edit view?
Drag those problem files from the iPhoto Library window to the desktop.
Make sure they all open in Preview from the desktop.
Delete those photos from the iPhoto Library.
Double click to open the files in Preview again and then save them in Preview.
Import one of them into iPhoto again and see if it opens.
As far as the Preview icons for photos in the Finder. Go to View>show view options>check "show icon preview"

Downloading photos into IPhoto 8

I recently upgraded to Leopard and IPhoto 8. I use a Cannon camera and have used Dassle media reader to download my photographs into my computer. A dialogue box use to come up allowing me to delete the pictures from the memory stick after they were downloaded to the computer. That box doesn't appear in the new Iphoto 8. I need to reinsert the memory stick back into the camera and delete them via the Cannon, an unneeded step. What do I need to do?

Try delete the com.apple.iphoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder and then see idf the option appears.
However on here we regularly recommend that you do not allow iPhoto to delete pics from your card, because if there is a problem with the import this will not be obvious until after you've wiped the card. Further, reformatting the card in the camera is a couple of seconds work.

Just downloaded Photos - replacing iPhoto it appears all my projects are now stored on iCloud because there is the image of a cloud on each one. I don't want anything of mine on the cloud. Is there no way to keep everything on my computer

All my Albums have a Cloud icon on them. I want to store all photos on my computer

You don't have to have your photos in iCloud. In Photo's iCloud preference pane make sure ALL checkboxes are unchecked.

I am having difficulty downloading photos from camera....iPhoto seems to be doing nothing, shows pictures on screen, but unable to proceed from there.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
