Downloading photos on iMac

My wife and I share an iMac. We each have a separate desktop. When I download photos to my photo library on the hard drive, those photos do not appear in her photo library which is on an external hard drive -- and vice versa. Perviously the two drives were synched. Now they are not. Help, please.

You are in a very dangerous situation and you need to fix it now.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Downloading photos to iMac from camera

I often (not always) have two problems when I try to download photos from my camera to my iMac: (1) I am often told that I didn't disconnect properly, I don't understand this. My understanding of the proper procedure for disconnecting anything connected to the computer is to delete it from the DEVICES section of FINDER. Well, I always do that, except when it isn't  there. Is there something else I should do?
    (2) What is the easiest, fastest and best way to download photos to the computer? Sometimes it's not too difficult, sometimes I have to search for the photos, and sometimes they go missing. Isn't there one special place where they are supposed to go?

In Mac OS X, you can use iPhoto or Image Capture to open automatically when you connect the camera.
Go to Applications / iPhoto and double click it. Then go to iPhoto/ Preferences:
Here select the application you want to use. (I have iPhoto selected).
After the camera is connected you will be shown the photos that are available for importing. Once you have finished the import, it is important to unmount the camera icon from the desktop. You do that by dragging the icon to the trash,

  • Software iOS 5.0.1 using 3GS can't download photos to iMac

This is starting to really upset me, everytime apple sends an updated software it creates about 3 hours of work for me trying to figure how to make something work and then un-do what they did. After trying iCloud I couldn't get my photos off my iPhone 3 GS to my iMac. I had to remove the update and iCloud. Now I just updated to iOS 5.0.1 on my 3GS and I can't download my photos to my iMac. After trying to sync my phone, all of my photos on my computer downloaded to my phone. Which I don't want all my photos from my computer on my phone. I want my phone photos on my computer. ***

Try rebooting the ipad by holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons on the ipad until apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Can't download photos from iMac to iPad.

I have my iPad connected to my iMac. When I bring up iTunes on the mac, it does not show the iPad under devices. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Ralph,
I was too quick in responding. I had to leave the machine and now I'm back. I followed your advice and went to the VIEW menu and clicked Show Sidebar. What shows is Library, Store, Genius and Playlists - no iPad. I do have iTunes 11.  Another suggestion?  By the way, when I click on File and then Devices, hte Sync Don's iPad is not lit up and I'm unable to invoke that. Perhaps that will provide a clue for you.  Don

  • All of a sudden when I download photos into iMac they are duplicated?

As far as I know I did not change any settings but if I did, where do I go to stop the duplicating?

What can you do? Explain what you are seeing and what you have for starters
What version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.6.8 as you state correct for your OS? Where are you seeing the duplicates? Are you importing the same photos multiple times? What is the source of theses photos?

  • Download photos from CD to iMac

I have a CD of 122 photos from a recent vacation. Tried to download to my iMac (Snow Leopard - Ver.10.6.8). Not sure how to save them on the iMac.
I double-clicked on the CD on the desktop.  I opened the folder containing the 122 JPG files (photos). Clicked on ' File' & 'Edit" in Finder, but could find nothing to download photos to iMac.
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

Save the photos to your Pictures folder.
If you aren't sure where that is, click the magnifying glass icon top right in your screen.
Type Pictures in the search field.

  • HT5172 Glad to have USB capability on my new iMac.  Been in Mac world all of 2 days now.  Question - I downloaded photos from a Centron flash drive and am wondering if flash drives have to be ejected the same as on a PC?  Can't find how to do it.  Thanks.

Been in the iMac world now all of 2 days.  I'm glad to have USB capability.  I downloaded photos from a Centron flash drive and now need to remove the flash drive.  Do you eject flash drives on iMacs as we did on PC's?  Can't find an answer in the support area.  Thanks...

Yes. All external drives regardless of how they are connected must be ejected before they can be unplugged.

  • Imac on os 10.6.8 won't download photos

My imac has decided to stop recognising that a device is connected to download photos from. I've tried to download from cameras, iphones, and an ipad. Nothing!!
I cleaned up some space in the hard drive a couple of weeks ago, and could have removed something I'm not meant to!?!? Have re-installed image capture but that's not worked. iphoto and preview don't seem to recognise anything as being there!!
    Any help gratefully received.

Image Capture is part of the system, and if you uninstalled it, you should reinstall the system to get it working again.

Did you use an application to help with your cleaning? Some of these tools are dangerous, because they will remove necessary files.
