I went from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS. I have a CS2 Creative Suite that I have not reinstalled on my computer.
I would like to buy only the Photoshop CS4 upgrade. My question: When I buy the upgrade of CS4 and install, do I have to have CS2 on the computer?
Does CS4 stand alone?

No you don;t have if the cs4 is an upgrade it will ask about your old cs2 serial.

Downloading Photoshop cs4 x86 ONLY

I have an old scanner and wanted to install an older download of Photoshop cs4 x86 on my Windows 8 computer.
I dowloaded the installer for CS4 Design Premium and selected Photoshop only.... and it only installed the x64 version of the program (the one without the ability to use the twain32 plugin.
How do I get a download of the Photoshop x86 ONLY so that I can use my old scanner?

Yay... I found this info on Google and it worked... posting here for others with the same problem:
- Install this 2 drivers (The Twain driver for Vista, and the "connector" from twain.org) http://www.mediafire.com/?jt0hhnbgkyb61ge
- Lookup for the shortcut named Twack_32 and open it.
- Verify on "File > Select Source" that WorkCentre PE16 usb is selected.
- Set "File > Message Level" on "None" in order to avoid the annoying messages.
You're now ready for scan, but you have to do it from this aapplication(File > Acquire) or another like Photoshop (From the Import option).
Then you save the image and there you go

Just downloaded Photoshop CS4 trial - Bridge isn't there!

I just downloaded Photoshop Extended CS4 trial on Macbook.
Bridge isn't there -when you click on the icon from Photoshop it doesn't go anywhere.
Have tried to reset preferences, and have properly uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop.
Definitely selected Bridge to install along with Photoshop.
Any help gratefully received.!

Meaning you either have a wrong install or a wrong trial download.
Installing PSCS4 extended should install Bridge as a separate application in
the same location.
Double check the install procedure or else try to download a new trial
version, if you are still within the 30 days trial period that should not
matter I would think.
Bridge is not in the root folder, but Photoshop is.

How do I download Photoshop CS4 Extended?

I purchased a serial two-three years ago, and had it on my old computer. The computer broke. And now I need to install it on my new one, but I don't have discs. I have searched literally for hours to try and find one.

The first thing I did was to update the drivers with no effect. I'm on Windows Vista. Wouldn't they send me the most current edition of Photoshop?

This problem is usually fixed by updating your video card drivers and also updating Photoshop to 11.0.1

Are you trying to download a CS4 version to install software that you alreday own, or do you want to install a trial?
You get the error because you're not signed in to the Download page for Adobe.com. Start a download for CS6, let it start, cancel it if you don't want it, and then click one of the CS4 links.
Before you download and install CS4, make sure that it wil run on your computer. Because it is quite an old version, its not certified to run on latest computers.
Adobe does not sell CS4 anymore. So if you're planning to buy, you might as well try CS6. In addition to a host of new features, CS6 is engineered to take advantage of all the power that today's computers and OSes provide.

I'm new to this site and my computer has Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1.
After I installed Photoshop CS4 trial, it failed to install Photoshop, but the rest were successful. I went to get more information and this is the message:

I have been using Adobe Photoshop CS4 for a few months now without any problems or errors.
But last week.. i had a virus problem and decided to do a Clean Installation of my Operating System.
I was not too worried because I have done this millions of times already... and know the process like the back of my hand.
Well.. after the clean installation was complete, i started to load my applications.
To my surprise.. Adobe Photoshop CS4 would not install. Nor would Adobe Illustrator CS4.
It would get to the screen "Adobe is beginig the installation process" and would stall ..
At first... i thought it would eventually complete on it's own.. but after a few attempts and hours of the same screen with no progress.. it was obvious Adobe was no longer responding at that stage.
I searched high and low, night and day, over a few days trying to figure out the problem.
I was trouble-shooting everything.
In the middle of trouble-shooting, i took a break to surf the Net and see if i could find any suggestions when i ran into this Forum.
Someone mentioned disabling your Internet Security & Windows Defender.. and i thought.. no way.. it can't be that easy.
Well.. what do you know.. it was my Internet Security (Kaspersky Internet Security 2010)
After disabling Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, Adobe flew right pass the part where it was stalling, and finished installation without incident.
Adobe Illustrator CS4 also installed without any problems ...
I just wanted to share my experience as i know how frustrating it can be when software refuses to install.

I had a similar problem when i extracted the contents of my Adobe DVD and made an ISO file out of it so i would no longer need the DVD for installation.
But what i realized is that.. Adobe will not install if it's installed from the ISO.. and during installation.. an error would pop up.. and ask for the DVD
You probably have done something similar.
Here's what i did to fix:
- Extract the contents of Adobe Photoshop CS4 into a Folder
- and install from that ..
After i extracted the contents and installed from "setup.exe" .. the installation completed without error ..
DVD
- If you're having problems from the DVD .. then try to extract the Contents of the DVD on to your Desktop..
and install from there ..
Trial Installer
- As for the Trial you are referring to .. im not familiar with it ..
but try to extract the contents of it to your Desktop .. and go from there ..

Huge Delay in Photoshop CS4 features

Hey. I've download Photoshop CS4 and running it in trial mode. When I use the brush tool for example, the delay in it actually printing on the paper after I click and drag is like 1-2 seconds. I have a pretty good PC, 2.4ghz @ quad.
Any ideas?

uncheck advanced drawing in the gpu enable advanced features.
you may also want to turn of 'show overlay' and clipping in the clone stamp feature if you use that often and notice a delay.

Photoshop CS4 and Nikon .NEF files

I just downloaded Photoshop CS4 for a trial basis. I use 2 nikon cameras and 1 Canon and shot is RAW format. The RAW file extensions are .NEF and .CS2. I had the understanding Photoshop had no problem reading these file formats (through ACR). However, I am not able to access photos under the .nef format. How do I access files under .nef?

It reads it fine and I believe CS 3 does as well.
Perhpas there is a trial of Light room which users the same engine as ACR but has more organizing features. And the spotting tool works better.
But I assure you that ACR reads nef what camera do you have? Is it a recent release?

Why is my Photoshop CS4 not installing both 64 and 32 bit versions?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I purchased and downloaded Photoshop CS4 Extended and it installed as a 64 bit program. Now I need a 32 bit version also (for some Nik plugins), but the installer didn't install the 32 bit version (it would be in Program Files (x86). It should have installed both as a default.
Also, I didn't change the default pathing as I know that can screw the install up.
I ran the install program again and it runs through the complete install without giving me the Options Panel to select which version 64 or 32 (or both) to install.
Should I completely uninstall PS and reinstall to see if I get the install Options Panel? Other Ideas?

It's a great idea, but I don't know how. I have the downloaded the PS CS4 file from Adobe that I used to originally install PS. I re-ran this install program and it reinstalled the same 64bit program that I already have; it never gave me any options as to which version to install.
I'm think I'll just have to de-activate, uninstall, reinstall to get the PS install Options Panel.
