Downloading podcasts and sync

I have my itunes to sync my ipod when it's connected (my preference). When itunes starts, it downloads my podcasts. The issue is that it doesn't finish downloading my podcasts by the time the sync starts, so I end up syncing twice (when it connects to computer, and manually after my podcasts are downloaded). Can Apple make itunes not sync when connected UNTIL all the podcasts are downloaded? Is that an option somewhere?

There's a good guide here on how to roll back to 10.7 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4559563?tstart=0

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.

  • How do I delete old podcasts and sync new podcasts without getting duplicates

I  have an iPod Nano.  I've enjoyed downloading podcasts and listening to them while walking my dog.  I want to delete the podcasts I've already listened to and download only those I haven't heard.  If I delete old podcasts, will iTunes be able to identify and download only podcasts I haven't listened to?

You don't have to use the Podcasts app.  If you delete it and sync to iTunes on your computer via USB the podcasts will appear back in the Music app.  You can delete them there.

  • I'm trying to download podcast and it says preparing to download, but nothing downloads. since i upgraded to the io6

im trying to download podcast and it says preparing to download but nothing happens, since i upgraded to the io6

    Stacey Lou,
All I can say is I am having the same problem on my 4th Gen iPod Touch, but not my 3rd gen iPad.  Occasionally, the podcast app will work, other times, all the downloads get stuck on "Preparing to Download".  No obvious solution has presented itself.
Illaass, none of the previous discussions I see in "more Like This" seem to cover this topic specifically.
Idle speculation:  Based on the behavior I have noticed elsewhere in iOS 6, I am convinced what is happening is if you start the podcast download someplace with a crappy connection, all subsequent attempts to download the same file will hang.  I have seen this in app updates that stalled due a bad connection.  All subsequent attempts to update the app also stall, regardless of the quality of the internet connection.  I have to DELETE the app and reinstall it to get it to work.  Maybe something similar is going on here with the Podcasts app.  Unfortunately, there is no easy way to 'delete' the podcast and then re-download it.

  • I am trying to download podcasts, and I am getting an error message.

I am trying to download podcasts, and I am getting an error message.  I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing, deleting and redownloading the podcast, and shutting off and turning on my computer an iphone.  I have also tried refreshing the podcast.  I have also tried closing itunes and reopening it.  What gives?  I have an iphone 5s and my MacBookPro and the software is updated on both.  What gives?

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

  • Podcasts and syncing with iTunes 6.0

So I just hooked up my iPod with iTunes 6.0 for the first time. After changing the drive letter (don't know why I needed to do that), it seemed to sync fine. Except that it started uploading 188 old podcasts that I've played (Parts of audiobooks). That struck me as odd, so I verified that I'm set to sync "Only unplayed episodes". So I looked under the Podcasts part of the iPod in iTunes, and it looked fine (only the unplayed ones appeared there). I was all set to just write it off as a random oddity, when I noticed that all the podcasts, played and unplayed, appear in the library part of the iPod information (still in iTunes).
It appears that iTunes 6.0 sees podcasts in the library (which they are, of course), notices that they're not in the library on the iPod (since they're somewhere else, presumably), and sent them over. Anyone know a way to deal with this short of unchecking all the played episodes, which isn't high on my list of things to do (i.e., is there some preference I'm missing)? Or should I be reporting this as a bug to Apple?

    See this thread:
Damon Durand, "A new podcast bug in iTunes 6" #3, 03:25pm Oct 14, 2005 CDT
Basically, iTunes started syncing any podcasts that appear in smart playlists if they're checked, even if they've been played. Workaround is to set all smart playlists to include "podcast is false". You can also right-click on any podcast and go to the "Playlists" entry, which will tell you which playlists its in.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT5295 I have read the other comments of others with the same problem of downloading podcasts and submitted my comment, but there is still no fix to the problem.Does anyone know why the trouble has not been taken care of?Who is the person dealing with this

the podcast app is not fixed still wont download, did not find any solutions with anyones comments, they all have the same problem with this app.So how can you say the problem is fixed, get someone who knows how to really do something so it is not a recurring topic of frustration!!!!!

You might get more replies to this (but not from Apple, who you will recall, do not monitor these discussions) if you had posted in the Podcasts for iOS discussions, but never mind. At least in this post you've mentioned that your problem is with the Podcast App, something you didn't mention in your previous post. Consequently, my comments were based on "problems downloading Podcasts", not "problems with the new Podcast App".
(I don't use the new Podcast App, since I cannot install iOS 5 on my Touch. So I stick with the older method of listening to Podcasts on my iPod.) That said however...
It cannot have escaped Apple's attention that the new Podcast App has not been well received. Although these discussions tend to focus on what's wrong rather than what's right, it does appear that the App hasn't been well thought out.
In particular, the Auto Play feature, which - once an episode has finished playing, the "next most recent unplayed episode" will begin. Now, maybe I'm wrong but to me that means that it plays the Podcasts in reverse date order, so episode 19 will play after episode 20 and episode 18 after ep.19! That is how the iPod Classic plays Podcasts by default and the Classic forum is littered with posts from people who think this is barmy. (I think it's barmy too!)
I use an iPod Touch as well. Although not perfect, playing Podcasts on the Touch is far easier than on a Classic.
You are unlikely to find any "solutions" to the issues with the Podcast App, because the "solution" is for Apple to redesign it.
If you are assuming that the update of 25th july is a claim that it's fixed... oh dear! I notice that the App views, shown in the Store, still include that "tortoise and hare" screen with what appears to be the transport mechanism for a reel-to-reel tape deck. That alone tells me there is no real improvement to the App. It really is the worst graphic Apple have ever produced! I'll be surprised if anyone under 35 recognises that graphic as a reel-to-reel tape deck.
Actually, I have a question for you.
If you have the Podcast App installed on your Touch, does that mean that the previous method of listening to Podcasts has been removed from your iPod, or can you still access them in the Music App? If you can, abandon the Podcast App and use the old method. If not, please warn me in order that I don't purchase a new iPod Touch until Apple fix this!
Sorry I can't be the bearer of more positive news.

  • I had to reset my pc cos it had a virus in it and i downloaded itunes and synced my iphone 5 and everything was fine. except i cant seem to be able to put my purchased ringtones back into my phone. can sb help please? i dont want to have wasted the money.

i had to reset my pc cos there was a virus in it. i downloaded itunes and downloaded all my purchases and synced my iphone back in and had to put all my cds back in and everything. but i cant seem to find where the ringtone i bought it. it worked fine before i synced my iphone back into the new virus free computer. i can see it in the ringtones tab but its grey and i cant access it. can somebody help please?

Unless you saved them somewhere you need to download and pay again.  There is currently no way to just get them again. You can create your own ringtones

  • Downloading podcasts and limited connectivity

Has anyone else noticed a problem with their internet connection dropping to limited connectivity when you try to download podcasts?

It only happens when you try and download more than 1 podcast - if its just 1 downloading there are no issues but its frustrating as Im having to do them all individually rather than queuing them. The simultaneous downloads box is ticked by the way.

  • Error message for downloading podcasts and music

I will get this message whenever I try to move my podcasts to my ipod.
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because they have not been downloaded to this computer".
I will right click on each podcast, go to where it says download this item and click on that. I do subscribe to the podcasts I listen to. This is extremely frustrating.
    Thanks for any help!

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.

  • How to delete downloaded podcast and reset podcast to not downloaded??

    Hi all,
Hope this is a simple question/answer. I've got several podcasts with lots and lots of downloaded episodes which I am no longer interested in keeping on my Powerbook. I can click on the episode I want to delete and delete the file once I use the "Show in Finder" option. However, the file status within the episode listing suggests the file has already been downloaded.
Is there a way to reset the status of the deleted file(s) so it indicates it needs to be deleted? I tried Refresh podcast after deleting the file, but that didn't work.
    Thanks!!
    Robert

I went through the same scenario and the absolutely easiest way is to empty all the podcasts you want to remove and then just hit the "unsubscribe" button and then re-subscribe to it. It will re-list all the available podcasts you haven't downloaded.

  • ITunes 9 : Error after downloading Podcast and iTunesU files

    Hello,
i have actually some problem since i have upgraded iTunes to the 9.0 version.
After downloading video, or audio, files iTunes indicate a error. The message is the following " A problem as occurs during adding « File Title » to iTunes. The file may be corrupted or unreadable by iTunes. "
But the file is present in the correct destination directory (i.e.: /Users/UserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/iTunes U/SourceName ). But when i drag it directly to the iTunes window, the file is correctly added and perfectly readable by iTunes and perfectly synced with my iPhone.
    Best Regards,
    Dominique.

regarding that latest Apple Keynote on the new iPods ... exactly how big is that download?
I've on a narrow pipe, and thus far the Activity Monitor shows over 1.4 GB data received, on a machine that has been dedicated to doing nothing else for quite a while now. Looking at other Apple keynote videos with similar run times, this seems ridiculous, unless they are now downloading them as HD 720p videos.

  • Downloading app and syncing with iphone

I downloaded an app on iTune on Mac and tried to sync it with my iphone 3GS. It says I should download using iTune because it is more than 50mb. But I have already downloaded on iTunes. What should I do?

im kinda confused on the issue, is the 50mb app on your phone and your getting message to not use cellular data (wifi/itunes). turn automatic sync OFF for apps. delete the app from your phone. then sync again.
do you have two copies of that app on your itunes? from two different appleID's?

  • I downloaded iTunes and synced my iPod Touch - ALL of my songs are GONE!

What do I do? I heard that Apple will give you one time to redownload all purchased songs - how do I go about doing this?

You contact the iTunes store.  Start here and select the appropriate topic:
    Apple - Support - iTunes
It sounds like you synced to a "new" computer.  Apple mar or may not allow a free redownload.
