Downloading site from server created by someone else

I apologize if this is something easy, but I'm frustrated. I have volunteered to help with a website that was created by another person using I don't know what. I was able to get to the site, but it seemed that I needed to create a site first in order to download. Of course, that creates the index.html and it doesn't want to be replaced by the one I'm attempting to download. I'm using GoLive CS2 8.0.1 and my operating system is OS X 10.5.6.
I'm using satellite for my internet service and what files I have been able to get have taken forever. Am I doing something wrong?

One reason the index.html refuses to be replaced may well be that it is designated as the home page. It doesn't have to be - if you can create any other .html page and in the site window define
that as the home page temporarily, you should be able to replace index.html.
I hope it's a small site - it's a very laborious way to recreate a site and you'll probably have to remake all the links as well as working out the site structure from the links in the original.
Best would be to get ftp access from the original creator of the site or whoever uploaded it, then you can get it all in one go.

  • Download site from server?

    I have recently started updating my company's website. I would like to use iWeb as an FTP client. I have the connection set up, but I do not have the website files on my computer. The site was originally managed through GoDaddy, and the previous webmaster has since left the organization.
    Does anyone know how to download the website from the server (if it is possible)?

    Yes, it is possible to download the site files from the server, but not possible to open them using iWeb - iWeb has no import facility, so is unable to open already published html files.
    You will have to re-build the whole website in iWeb if you want to use this.
    If you download the files you'll have to use a text editor such as TextWrangler or Dreamweaver or some other programme that is able to import html files.

    If you wish to use home sharing then you need to setup the Apple TV under your ID.

  • Start a workflow for a list item that was created by someone else

    What settings do I need to change so that I can start a workflow for a list item created by another user?
    I have a SharePoint 2013 workflow (let's call it LSR Status Workflow) that is associated with a list (called
    LSR List). When a user creates an item in the LSR List, it automatically starts the
    LSR Status Workflow. That is what I wanted, but sometimes I make changes to the workflow (via SharePoint designer) and then I would want to terminate the existing workflows that are running and restart them.
    When I try to start a workflow for anyone other than a list item that I created, I get the following error:
    Retrying last request. Next attempt scheduled in less than one minute. Details of last request: HTTP NotFound to https://publishing.web.company.com/sites/mysite/_vti_bin/client.svc/web/lists/getbyid(guid'1f844b8f-19aa-4587-bcc2-dfb7085f36b5')/Items(31)

    Then when the workflow is finally suspended after it keeps retrying, it reports the following error:

    You don't need to re-do the fields. If you create a new version of the PDF
    file just open the old one and use the Replace Pages command to insert the
    pages from the new version over the old ones. This will give you a new
    version of the file, with the existing form fields still in tact. Of
    course, you might need to adjust their location and/or size, but at least
    you won't have to start all over again...

  • Need to edit a form that was created by someone else.

    Hello, I have to edit a form that was created by someone else. I made numerous changes to the text and repositioned a lot of the items, and it appeared fine on my computer. However, when I open it on my PC and other systems, the fonts are substituting and I'm getting strange characters where I changed the text. I tried embedding the fonts with the Preflight embed fonts, but it is still messed up. My client is anxious...not sure what else to check. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Allow users to Download documents from server

    Hello Everybody,
    I am working on an Flex application where I have to allow the
    users to Open/Save documents such as Word document, Excel sheet,
    PDFs, Jpeg, Media files (any digital format document) when a user
    clicks on a link present in a Flex application. To do this I am
    using the navigateToURL() method and simply passing the URL string
    as a URLRequest to the navigateToURL method. This works fine but
    whenenver the link is invoked and the user selects to Save the
    Excel sheet or any document it displays an unwanted browser window
    behind the Open/Save/Cancel dialog box saying action cancelled.
    I can not use "_self" as I require the Flex application to
    run as is. I tried using the javascript:window.open() but this did
    not work.
    1) Is there a process to stop the browser window from
    opening?
    2) How can we invoke a javascript using navigateToURL(), I
    tried to invoke javascript.alert('Ok') and also
    javascript:window.open() both did not function.
    3) Is there any other method or flex classes etc. to invoke
    external applications (allow to download documents from server)?
    Please help me.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Paromita

    Paromita,
    You could use the file download functionality. This is from
    the docs:
    You can let users download files from a server using the
    FileReference.download() method, which takes two parameters:
    request and defaultFileName. The first parameter is the URLRequest
    object that contains the URL of the file to download. The second
    parameter is optional--it lets you specify a default filename that
    appears in the download file dialog box. If you omit the second
    parameter, defaultFileName, the filename from the specified URL is
    used.
    The following code downloads a file named index.xml from the
    same directory as the SWF document:
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("index.xml");
    var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
    fileRef.download(request);
    To set the default name to currentnews.xml instead of
    index.xml, specify the defaultFileName parameter, as the following
    snippet shows:
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("index.xml");
    var fileToDownload:FileReference = new FileReference();
    fileToDownload.download(request, "currentnews.xml");
    I think this will accomplish what you are trying to do.

  • BPC 5.1 - Cannot download templates from server

    Hi All,
    One of our users receives the message "unable to download templates from server" when logging on to the system.  If she clicks OK to get past the message, BPC comes up but there is no action pane.  Only one computer seems to be affected.  The same user can log on to a different computer and run BPC without a problem.  No changes (that we are aware of) were made to this computer since the last time it worked fine (last week).  We are running BPC 5.1 SP8.  What could be causing this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Kiran,
    I tried as you suggested but unfortunately it did not solve the problem.
    Hi Roberto,
    I cleared the local cache on the machine and logged back in.  This seems to have resolved the problem.
    Thank you both for your help!

    Hello,
    I have opened artwork created by someone else. We are both using Illustrator CC. This particular issue shows up in Illustrator CS5 also. Issue: in the links pallet a weird gray gradient keeps replicating. I cannot identify it in the artwork. It is an embedded image. I cannot get rid of it and it keeps reproducing. WHAT is it and why can't I delete it?
    Thanks for any help. Ingrid

    Hello, yes it is reproducing over and over. I look in the original artwork and there are 28. I did not save over the original art but “save as”. Worked on the new file for a while and now there are 47!. I copied all the content to a new blank, all colors removed, file and there they were. If I click on them can’t relink, won’t show a bounding box, no frame in wire-frame, no stray points. they are ghosts. Here is an image, to give a better visual of how they look in links panel. Any ideas? Thanks, Ingrid

    Take a look at Metalogix ControlPoint, which will compare user accounts on SharePoint to Active Directory and remove accounts that no longer exist in AD (or are disabled).
