Downloading to new iMac
Just bought a new Imac and tried downloading Creative Suite Premium but it says it will not download a Power PC. What can I do.

Attachments not downloading on newer iMac using Apple Mail
I have a fairly new iMac (Dec 08) running the latest version of leopard (10.5.6). recently I have changed my mail from POP to IMAP. On the iMac, sometimes attachments will not "download". When I try and drag it to the desktop, I get an error message something like: "You can't drag this file until it is downloaded. Would you like to download now?" But if I try and manually download, nothing ever happens. Its as if the file really isn't there, just the "image" or name. However, on a powerbook connected to the same netwark, with the same email settings, (computer running 10.5.4), the files appear normal and download instantly.
I found a discussion of this from last year, with no resolution other than to perhaps mark the message as "unread", quit mail, and restart. this worked for one of the downloads in one email, one time, but did not work again. I also tried deleting the mail envelope index, to no avail.

This appears to be an issue with apple mail... Any solutions?
On a side note, I am also having problems with the internet connectivity under 10.5.6. There is a serious lag, or wait time for web links to start working. The web works, but there is a ridiculous delay that sometimes causes apple programs to time out. I have read that this is a DNS issue with Leopard. I am getting very disappointed with the latest Apple OS. It seems really buggy for very "primary" applications.When using IMAP accounts, and removing the Envelope Index, you must also remove the IMAP folders to prevent problems! This is because the Envelope Index in on each computer, and when the procedure creates new xxxx.emlx names in each Messages folder, in each mailbox it may lose sync with the messages on the server. They are only on the Mac to reindex, if you have selected to Keep all messages for Offline viewing. See:

Having said that, any connectivity issue could impact what you are experiencing.
I am not having problems with connecting to IMAP accounts, btw.

Slow wireless downloads on new iMac
I just picked up the new iMac and downloads are EXTREMELY slow and the router is only 10 feet away from the Mac. Any ideas what could be wrong?
I run into the same problem when I got my new i7 imac in December 2012.
It run 10 times slower via wireless on speedtest.net vs my 3 years old macbook pro.
I soon as I plug in the network cable it runs super fast, but wireless is just beyond terrible.
I did test new iMac vs my old Macbook Pro parallerly many times, same network, same time of the day. I did reset the router, modem, wireless card, you name it,
I called apple and they first tried to repair my brand new computer?!!? They did the speed tests via phone and couldn't figure out the issue.
After an hour or so on the phone, and being transfered from one person to another they finally agreed to ship me a replacement iMac.
So now I waited 1 month for my custom ordered replacement iMac.
Now check this out....The new one just arrived today and it has the same issue?!?!
I think we need Steve back to get this straightened out. Someone help please. -
Slow Download on new iMac Fast on old Ti Book
I have three computers on a AEBS, iMac 2.4 802.11N, MacBook 2.2 802.11N and an old Ti Book 400 with a Belkin USB wireless modem 802.11G. While trying to download the OSX 10.5.2 combo 343 megs the other day, I noticed that it was going to take 14 hours on my IMac 802.11N and when I checked out the TI book using Speed download, it was going to take 1 hour 20 mins for 340 meg file. The upgrade was downloading at 85 kbps on the Ti Book and 6 kbps on the iMac 802.11N I downloaded it on the Ti Book and indeed it took just less than two hours. I tried downloading the 10.5.2 on the iMac twice and it would get to 289 megs both times and quit after an all night run.
Must be set up wrong or the Belkin USB wireless device is a super piece of equipment. Any one seen this problem?Thanks for all the help I have received from everyone out there in cyberlandia, like it was alot.
I solved my problem on my own and what a feeling. I tweaked the IPv4 settings by ending the numbers in an even number instead of an odd number (.172, .174 ,.176 etc). Sort of stumbled onto this but it worked as my download speeds were 6kbps when I started and went up to 750 kbps shortly afterwards. I am in South America and our internet connections are slow compared to the States. Wish I could get a 5 meg download speed but that is not going to happen. 750kbps (@ $90 per month) is a joy compared to the dial up I had. -

On my new Imac I saved some files on the free trial version of Pages, since downloading the full version from Apple, have been unable to save or print from old files saved when using the trial version. Any ideas? Thank you!
My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip. -
I have a brand new iMac. It was working fine until I downloaded Mavericks. Now I have web pages that freeze while trying to load. The blue in the address bar stalls and freezes. If I try to load from page 1 to a later page, or reverse that, I also have the same problem. I tried to connect my printer for the first time, and again, the blue progress bar froze. Then I got the yellow triangle telling me there was a connection problem. My internet connection is via an Air Card as that is my only option where I live. I packed up the whole new iMac and took it to my Air Card provider, where they also have very fast Wifi, and they had the same problem with Wifi. I use my Air Card with my MacBook and it works JUST GREAT! I really want to return to Lion. HELP.
The only way to retutn to Lion is to format your drive (erase, lose all) and either:
1. clone back the clone copy i hoep you have, or
2. first backup your files, then format and install Lion again
But really, mavericks works great. You have a problem. Find out why. First, what unusual software do oyu have installed that may be conflicting with it? Virus, system modifiers, etc? Second what OLD software do you have that might be the problem. finally, you might need to do a re-install if something errored during install.

I just got a new iMac desktop. I need to install Lightroom on it. I had it on my laptop and I cannot find the disc anywhere. Shouldn't I be able to download it online with a key code from the original program? I cannot get thru in chat support with adobe and I tried to call and it doesn't work either. This is my only hope someone help.

Just purchased a brand new iMAC and sucessfully performed download and install of Mountain Lion (free upgrade). Discovered that dashboard widgets will not download as webpage times_out in both Safari and Firefox. Already set security to allow downloads from 'anywhere' but with no change. Downloads from anywhere else works fine, just widgets won't work, and I've been trying for several days now. Any suggestions? (firewall is off).

I just got a new IMac, and tried to download files from my old PC. When I go to,Finder, I have 1500 files under Developer, an 78 files under Other.
Most of these files I do not recognize. Can they be trashed? Why did they transfer? I used a flash drive for the transfer. Also, is there a way to transfer my older email files to this new computer?

TomDid you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...

Just bought a new imac and tried to download all my music from my iPod but it only allow me to download purchased items and not the rest of stuff stored on a previous pc itunes folder. How do I get round this ?
The simplest way to transfer everything is to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.

I bought Lightroom 3 or 4, can't remember which, as an online download. I then upgraded to 5 with a CD. I registered the upgrade on my Adobe account and that's where the serial number is. I just bought a new iMac and am trying to install Lightroom. The system is asking for my original serial number which I don't have. The point is. If I have the upgrade registered with my Adobe account, shouldn't that be proof that an earlier version was on my computer??? I'm really stuck. Need some advice! Thanks
